Complex Startup/Engine Management

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I recall some years ago limited discussion concerning the topic of more complex engine management and start-up procedures and perhaps fully modeled internal systems similar to CloD. I want to say that it was decided that this wasn't an immediate goal but perhaps something that might be visited in the future if there was enough interest in the game (my memory may very well be faulty - this was quite some time ago as I remember it). Has there been any discussion or recent news relating to this subject?

Cheers,

No, nothing has changed.

I would argue that we having control over the aircraft systems is a change. We can and have to adjust mixture throttle etc to get the engine running.

There is changes in progress where its most needed. The DM getting more complex. I hope that means engine timers too. And that means more realistic engine management.
I have personally adjusted my own ambitions closer to the dev’s ambitions.
I think they are in a path to perfect compromise between what I want and those not too fond of micromanaging systems.

Completely agree. I really enjoy going through the process of starting her up.

The first time I did it successfully, I giggled like a chold.

The DM improvements are quite the nice update - I'm looking forward to when they go live. If increasing complexity in the DM department is any indication as to their direction, perhaps you're right and we just might eventually get more realistic management. Here's hoping!

Of course with that said, I imagine that they'd need to do some similar to classic IL-2, where the level of complexity can be selected in the difficulty settings. I can fully understand the argument against not wanting to micro everything, but the way things currently are, many - not all - of the procedures seem pretty generic and non-specific to their craft. I know many of us see the automated processes on start up as the AI goes through the start-up checklist, and would like to be able to do many of those ourselves.

Just to make sure there are no disappointments from anyone, this patch has nothing to do with engines, it's all about he structure of the plane and how damage is calculated.

Maybe in the future they will look at engine damage (and timers hopefully).

Make sense. Structural damage is probably ambitious amount of work as it is

Not exactly the same, but from time to time they had commented on the fact that they might/whant to get a bit more complexity to the fuel sistem (maybe managment...) So this could be another nice step forward!

The rework of the fuel system seems like a good time to revisit the engine timers issues..
