FlyingNutcase Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 With the damage model update looking pretty supreme (from the DD), I went ahead and bought Flying Circus basically to support the devs but hoping of course that I actually enjoy the old girl. TIme is limited so just hoping for some advice about a suitable beginner's aircraft for both Allied & German and what controls to learn/flying tips. Thank you scholars. ? 1
JimTM Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) I suggest the following to get you started: German: Albatros D.Va Allies: S.E.5.a For aircraft control and flying tips, see Requiem's Flying Circus Vol.1 Airplanes. Requiem also has some video playlists for RoF content, which may help you in you "kite-flying" adventures: Basic Flight Maneuvers Air Combat Maneuvering Air Combat Tactics Also see: LIBERATOR's High-Flying Tutorials (note, this was written for RoF originally, so the game controls-related content may not apply to Flying Circus). Multiplayer Aircraft Guide — Flying Circus Edition (a ranking of the various Flying Circus aircraft) FYI, all of these links are part of the IL-2 Resources post. Edited March 7, 2020 by JimTM 1 2
JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) Welcome to the community and thanks for supporting the devs. I would suggest you review Hellbender and Trupos Multiplayer Guide manual pinned at the top of this this forum. With the tips from each you are better prepared to try out each plane. There will be many different opinions on where to start with planes but in the end it doesn't really matter where you start as long as you try them all....over and over....making sure to try them out again as you get better and better since the ones that were most difficult when you were starting to fly might be your favorite later in your career as a virtual pilot. Generally though you won't go wrong flying the Albatross DVa and the Se5a. They aren't the best competitively but they are the best all around and relatively easiest to fly on each side. PS don't forget to experiemce the joys and tribulations of two-seaters. Not everyone is made to be an ace dogfighter, but just about anyone can learn to bomb targets and complete challenging two seater missions. See you in the skies. US63_SpadLivesMatter Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) People always suggest the D.Va, probably a holdover from when it was free in RoF; but honestly the DVII/f is just as easy to fly, and far more competitive, so you might as well start there. The SE5a is a great and forgiving aircraft as the entente side goes. Hard to go wrong with the "ace maker". Edited March 7, 2020 by J28w-Broccoli 1 2
SeaW0lf Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I agree with Broccoli. I would also recommend the Fokker DVII for Central. The Albatros is a squadron / veteran plane: slow and not the best turner. You need some extensive mileage to pull something with her and at least one wingman (best to have two). The DVII is way faster and more maneuverable, have good visibility and require the same controls / levers of the Albatros. And the taboo plane, the Fokker DVIIF, arguably the best overall plane in the game, and you just add the altitude throttle to the equation. I also think it comes to style. If you want to go Werner Voss and face the whole 56th squadron, better to start with the Fokker Dr1 or the Camel (the Dolphin is a special case), and learn to tame them overtime, because you can't do what they do with other planes (and vice versa). The Pfalz also seems to be more maneuverable than the Albatros (I'm not sure if they rolled back her flight model to the original one). But coming from WWII, the SE5a and Spad and the DVII and DVIIF might be a smoother transition. 1
No.23_Gaylion Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) Try them all! Each are beautiful and have their own little quirks to them which are fun to learn. My own preference is to stick to one plane and master it because I have very little free time to devote to flying. But I know the majority of people are quite the opposite. At any rate, welcome to the front! We're glad you are here. Edited March 7, 2020 by US213_Talbot 1
Yours_truly_Ace Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 If you gonna dogfight; just start with the Camel and learn how to fly it and avoid spins / stalls (lots of youtube videos on that). For the germans just learn the Fokker DVIIF or Dr. 1. If you try to dogfight with a SE5a or Spad or any other allied plane against an experienced / mediocre pilot in an albatros, Fokker DVIIF or Dr.1 , you will be dead. The SE5a is a heavy brick and can't regain energy fast once you start turning and gets slower and slower speed. The SE5a is best for boom'n zoom and tucktale n' run. Trust me, I had hard time shooting down a very rookie player in an Albatros in the SE5a. It was just because he was a rookie I managed to gain some altitude and zoom on him and kill him. If it had been a slightly better player I would be dead. 1

To switch places in airplanes and/or tanks use "Ctrl + C" (default key IIRC). And if you want to be a gunner without bothering to control your plane at the same time, you should activate the autopilot first, before leaving the pilot seat. Autopilot? Yes, not very "realistic" but the only way to concentrate on gunner tasks. Edited March 16, 2020 by -=-THERION 1 1
