I'm not sure what to think of this movie. I get these Midway wipes here, at least these scenes from the trailer suggest this level to me.  I'd be happy if I'm wrong.

Wasn't TH supposed to film that HBO miniseries about the 8th AF Bomber Boys?

Oh dear. When a film claims it's "inspired by actual events" one just knows it's likely to be bollocks.

Tough audience. I think I'll wait to decide if it's good or bad after I actually watch the film. I'll take a good story and acting over 100% correct emblems every time.

Looks good to me. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Historical accuracy isn't really the most important thing in movies like this imo.

Also the movie is based off of the book not real life events. It says inspired by real event in the fact that it's a movie based off of WW2.

Yes he's still working on it. This movie was likely filmed over a year or two ago. Filming takes place long before the release of the movie.

I was in a movie once and it didn't release until a year or so later.

So Red Tails at Sea?

I wonder if the German sub captain will refer to Tom Hanks as Pretty Boy?

Just watched the trailer and oh boy does this look bad -.-

Could be an entertaining action flick but on historical accuracy it surely will just suck.

And what's up with the Transformer sounds eberytime a U-Boat shows up xD

A little bit less now, if this is the quality of storytelling that we can expect.

How so? You've always impressed me as someone who seemed knowledgeable about storytelling and the like. In that 2 minute and 47 second preview, what do you see that screams failure??? Generally, in my movie watching experience, previews typically don't reveal much about a movie. They show a couple of dramatic clips of the film, maybe a few quick shots of special effects, especially in modern films. Little of the story line is given away. Few people who'll watch this movie will have little notion of the Battle of the North Atlantic. Nor will they care.

If flight sims are aimed at a small segment of the gaming community because of a general lack of interest or any connection to the event that is far removed from their lives, I'd wager WWII era war films are now struggling to find an audience in today's world for a lot of the same reasons. If made to documentary standards, any WWII film would die at the box office quickly, hence the dramatic effects. Given Tom Hanks previous films, I can't see this as being anything less than well made and entertaining. I'll bet my last dollar this film far exceeds the recent movie Dunkirk in telling it's story. I'm looking forward to it.

I see awful CGI and Forrest Gump without Captain Dan.  Horribly tired and stale.  That screams failure to me!

By way of comparison, this is my favorite movie submarine scene in recent memory:

Can't be worse than Hunter killer lol!

I don't expect it to be Das Boot lvl but with T.Hanks it should be a good watch at home, if story is good and tend to realism who cares about bad CGI.

Any ww2 movie is welcomed these days, it sure will help drag new generations into ww2 sub/flight sims

Not everything that comes out of Hollywood is shlock. Unfortunately, they definitely will produce films geared to a target audience, whoever they might decide that is. Just once more, I want to see a "Twelve O'clock High" type film done with an excellent script, genuine acting talent and modern CGI.

I've heard that the story is based on The Good Shepard by C.S. Forrester, a decent enough book IIRC.

Interesting clip...

The musical score is DEFINITELY inspired on The Hu's Wolf Totem song.
