1./KG4_OXO123 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 (edited) I am sure there are various posts about this in this forum but is there a current answer to the "problem" when loaded all runs fine , no real issues and very happy with VR performance and visuals .. but the load times are quite long with flickering , if I quit and reload everything in the same session all seems so much quicker to load with less time flickering … any progress ? answers ? is it just a wmr thing ? atb oxo Edited March 1, 2020 by 123UKoxo-uk
Dano Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Does it on my rift too, it's lessened by switching to opencomposite instead of using steamVR. 1
1./KG4_klaw123 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 I too have the flickering when loading, it flickers at different speeds depending on 45 or 90hz settings. It's not a bother for me. 1
[-=BP=-]Slegawsky_VR Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Can confirm that, getting the flickering on load screen in steamvr. Looking up stops it ho, very annoying. 1

1./KG4_OXO123 Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 just a work around , I tried loading 2D il2 , then quit it , then start up your vr etc as before , load time and flickering improve by 70 / 80 % .. so when you put on your PC have a try , just load 2d then quit 2d , works for me
WheelwrightPL Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 How did this pass QA testing ? (assuming any). This flickering makes me want to throw-up and would probably kill somebody with epilepsy. Do they just wait for a lawsuit to happen ?

Do they just wait for a lawsuit to happen ? so very true ! it is not a good situation really , yes you can look away internally till it stops but I have seen no warnings or advice … it is for sure a loading issue , even in 2d it takes some time to load from steam now I thought that had been sorted in an update a few months ago ? , other friends with VR all have the same issue .. however this method goes a long way to help , it would be good to be able to start from a 2d environment with no flickering etc atb oxo
TCW_Brzi_Joe Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Guys it is same on Pimax. It started a few months ago with SteamVR update. It was first in Steavr beta only, and then that become official SteamVR. I asked Steam support to change whatever they did, but they ignore me. I have same flickering on other big games also (while loading, i.e. Asgards wrath, and Seeking Down). Last week Pimax made new Pitool (our driver & software), without flickering. I think they reduced percentage of GPU utilization. It was disaster. See this link. It is better to close my eyes while loading, than to have positioning lag while playing. Next we will get another Pitool version, with a slider for GPU utilization. That suppose to help us, but I think I will have it at maximum always. PS: Steam are developing and optimizing for last years HMDs, not for us. Pitty.

Pitty. try my dodge Briz , reduces loading time and flashing by a long way ! at least for now , many games on steam have long loading times as you said , I have post scriptum , takes ages to load . atb oxo
TCW_Brzi_Joe Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Realy, I already have long procedure to start everything, I would forget it too often Ps: it does not happen on my first map loading, but on second, third... It is hard to find source because of that.
Dutch2 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Here also flickering here in pre-loading, using the Samsung Odyssey+ It seems it is been reported. https://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4502884/vr-questions#Post4502884
VampireNZ Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 (edited) Yep same here with the Rift S. I just look away at the stars in the steam VR environment till it loads. I was just thinking this would be super-bad for anyone predisposed to bad reactions brought on by rapid flickering lights (seizures etc). You may not even have any history of issues like this, but that flickering would sure bring on any ! Edit: I actually got rid of the flickering during loading by using OpenComposite instead of SteamVR. Just shows the map/black screen now while loading. Edited March 19, 2020 by VampireNZ Update
KLM Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Me too its why I am here. You need to fix this now! even with a blank screen... its unacceptable and as such the game should not have been realeased due to health and safety reasons. Regards.
aerotorc Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 So basically this has never been fixed? Did anyone have any luck working out a solution? The search function did not help in this regard ...
TG-55Panthercules Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I used to get this with my old Rift CV1 back in the day, and I'm still getting this on my new Reverb G2. I am using SteamVR now, but I tried using OpenComposite/OpenXR a couple of different times and I don't remember it making any difference (never could get it to work without looking really crappy visually in game, and only saw about a 3FPS increase with it, so I switched back to SteamVR). I just keep my eyes closed until I notice the arrival of the mission screen - silly but it works. I do wish they would make it stop though. 1

Apart from using OpenComposite the only other thing to do is to enable the option (I forget what it's called) in SteamVR to fade the screen when an application hangs so then you can look down or to the sides and the gameworld will fade-out to the SteamVR scene until the game finishes loading. -LCC-FortisOne Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Really old thread but I just bought a Meta Quest 3 and am having this issue on all loading screens currently. What is so bizarre is that for the first 2 days it was NOT doing this, and the screen would go black with a little hour glass at the bottom during the loading screens. Now it is this awful strobe light that I feel is somewhat dangerous for someone with epilepsy. I cannot figure out what setting I changed to make this start. I can not enjoy my new headset until I figure out what the hell is causing this. Using steam VR, and the issue persists both through the link cable, and the streaming option.

I used the SteamVR Link (so Oculus software is not used) and it was just black screen. But I don´t use SteamVR Link because image is downsampled in the borders. I use Quest Link (cable) and I have the same problem than you. I normally close my eyes during those seconds when loading missions.
Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 My first and second Oculus Rift, the Pimax I tested and returned, and my HPG2 all flickered when downloading; it lasts maybe ten seconds or so. I look down at the floor until it passes. I just thought this was part of the loading process and didn't realize this was considered a problem.
