Tab Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I see many people are struggling with the lagg nose-up problem, here is a simple workaround for that till we get proper trims for Lagg and Il2: The workaround is based on this brilliant tool: http://www.leobodnar.com/files/DIView.zip it's called DIView - stands for DirectInputView. Basically it catches all data related to joysticks via DirectX-hooks. You can't do anything wrong with that. The trick totally reversible. It provides you with possibility to calibrate your joystick manually, which we will do. Here is a how-to: 1. Close the game 2. Download and start the tool DIView (no installation needed) 3. You will find a screen looking like this: 4. Find your Y axis there. You can move your joystick around and see the bar responses to find it if your axes are not named properly. I have highlighted my Y axis. 5. Right click the somewhere in the Y axis window and choose "Calibration". 6. See 7. Do not touch values for max and min. You only need to set your "Center" value a bit above the default one. My min and max are 0 and 1025 and the center was 512, so I changed it to 700 - around 67% of the axis range. Your values will be different if you use other joystick than x52 pro. If min is 0 and max is 512, you probably want to set center to 300. And so on. No need to memorize the default settings, as they are read from the joystick driver anyway. You can revert everything to defaults anytime you want. 8. Hit ok and move your joystick around. Check that the Y axis marker is now on the left from the center. It should look like this in the neutral stick position. Meaning that neutral position of you joystick is now not 50% of Y axis anymore, but around 67%. This way the game will think, that you are pushing your stick by 17% forward from center, even though the stick itself is in neutral position. Just play with it a bit, you will see what I mean. 9. Start the game and see that you don't have to push the stick all the way forward to get a level flight at 400 kmh in the lagg or il2. The aiming will be easier too. 10. Do not forget to change the settings back to default if you want to fly 109 or stuka (see 7.: right click the Y axis - Calibration - "Restore defaults"). Game restart is probably needed to apply the changes. The reason I wrote it, is that we need more competitive lagg pilots online 3
realtrance Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Thank you! I am recently spoiled by a newly-discovered enthusiasm for both Rise of Flight and DCS: World, and so am looking forward (I hope reasonably?) to having equivalent ability with IL2:BOS to create response curves for the joysticks. Until then, this is a great stopgap solution. Edited April 21, 2014 by realtrance
Rjel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Thanks Tab! This is a great way to help to the trim problem until it is put into the game. This is a very simple program to use and one I'm going to keep. It took some experimentation but I can fly the IL-2 now with very little stick pressure to keep it's nose from constantly wanting to climb. This post should be pinned so it is available for all to see.
