THAT one, was fun.....

Flying off line one on one. Winter map, me p-51 , enemy FW 190.

Over 1/2 hour of time, flew in and out of the "Battle Box" chasing the last one. Timer on engine went out two to three times, waited it out. Landed really nice for a change. (Computer said it was a forced landing) Hell, I Captured an air base! Forced landing my BUTT!

Oh, I got four planes to boot.

Not too bad for a noobie….?

Wait till I get that "Thingy" so I don't have to use  that hat thing, or my buttons to see around.

Later,

That thingy (track ir) is a game changer! The immersion you get is very nice

I can only guess that VR is even more amazing

Not sure where you are from but I broke the bit that clips onto headset a few years back and I bought a clip from Delan Clip and it seems to work with TrackIR... It was a lot cheaper too!

I still use TrackIR from time to time but I'm not VR and love it!

Trackir from Natural Point is actually very expensive, they do not have any competition. That's what DIY is so polular.

They are still asking about $300Cdn. here. Absolutely nuts.

It is   A cheap sensor and 3 led light and a software.  They could increase sale by 10 lowering the price with a third

but for me it increased the immersion 3 times more than going from trackir to VR

but you are not far from the price of a Rift S

As stated above, it is! I was REAL hesitant on giving up my 2D experience in 4K with 42” of viewing area. My buddy came to visit and brought his Oculus Rift along for me to try. He installed the headset software then handed it to me and in my very first experience I swore as I banked they Spitfire to the right I could feel myself sliding to the outside of the seat. Now I have the Rift S and never fly 2D unless I’m doing it for screenshots or testing. I’ll most likely put the original Rift on eBay soon.

My other buddy came to visit and the feeling of being in the cockpit was enough that after he decided to actually turn the aircraft he stalled it halfway through and had to quickly yank the headset off because of the spiral stall he felt as though he was going to get sick lol.

To add a little more immersion instead of using the headset I keep my external speakers cranked up as it allows all the engine vibrations to be felt through my rudder peddles (subwoofer) and hands (desktop speaker behind the Samsung TV being used as a monitor).

Is there any kind of general consensus on what the best BR headset is?

I guess you mean VR.
Since I know you fly DCS and your rig is not equipped with a 2080. I recommend you to buy the Rift S. It is really good enough.  I do not mind the scubamask vision
it has a narrower field of view than pimax and some other high end higher pixel goggles. But I read they demand a bit more in DCS than Rift S.
Rift S provide clear instruments goid spotting and damn good immersion. You can get it cheaper than 300 CAD used. At least I did.
I like the speakers in the forehead it means you can actually talk and respond to other in the house while flying. Some dont. Another thing is you need no sensors or basestation that cost extra money. It is plug and play in its purest form

Here's a poll on most currently popular, if that helps:

I would highly recommend Rift S for it's ease of setup and use, along with a good price point.

I use mine daily for many hours a week, have been since last May when I got it. Rock solid.

Problem is right now they are hard to get with the situation getting product from overseas.

Audio strap on the Rift S is crap though imho, I use earbuds plugged into the Rift S headphone jack and sound is superb.

That depends on your model.
I still have the first model of Oculus and its horrible in this sim to be honest, you do not see anything, everything is blurry, you even do not see where you are shooting at in mid air while dogfighting.
Never tried other models, but I do believe the new ones get better picture.
Better stick with the Trackir5 :)

I got a Reverb and I like it a lot.  Massive upgrade over the original Rift and not too much more expensive.  And for all that I still have trouble spotting air and ground, in VR or on a monitor.  Part of that is no doubt aging but another part is the game ... which, as pointed out in the locked thread ... is being looked into.  Still loads of fun and the immersion factor of VR is mind blowing.

Ditto, same here.  Although I found that there were several tweaks and configuration combos needed to work through to dial in the Reverb.  Even so, from the very first flight and every flight after that, it is a stupefyingly jaw-dropping experience.   There's so much you notice and the feeling of flight is exactly what any diehard simulation fan should experience.

Maybe you are right. Can you post screenshot of your settings menu while using VR?

and I was not trying to resurrect them.  Probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all.

Some have said that spotting is better on a 4K monitor.  As a SP player immersion is more important to me than competitive advantage.  The Reverb looks about as good as my 2650x1440 monitor.  I also find tracking easier and far more intuitive than with a Track IR.  Others prefer track IR because it has better than 1:1 head to actual motion.  So, depending on your preferences any number of settings will do it.  For me, can't beat the feeling of being in a cockpit and the Reverb makes the experience about as sharp as VR can make it right now.
