J37_Daedallus Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Salute all If you find yourself in the same position again, keep extending, I won't want to go too deep into your territory, or at least drag me over your airfield and it's aaa (if working)! Then when I turn for home, you can plan your attacks. cheers 1 1
J99_Sizzlorr Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Haven't seen anyone vulching or camping airfields since I play on J5 server.
No.23_Triggers Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 (edited) Flak how we have it now is good. It'll pester you over the front, and around certain targets / areas it gets particularly nasty. As for aerodrome defence - it's the machine-guns that will get you - but they won't catch out high-flying vulchers... 1 hour ago, J99_Sizzlorr said: Haven't seen anyone vulching or camping airfields since I play on J5 server. You should join the 93rd! I keep the records for our thursday Ops and the first 3 losses of the year were guys getting strafed on the flight line or immediately after taking off... I've also seen Camels massacring albs and d7s over a hun field, D7s diving down at planes coming in to land, etc, etc....it's not too common but it's definitely happening! No, I haven't either, although i have seen and reported one case of bad behaviour. With the influx of new players, it would be easy to exploit any advantages, to the detriment of players taking their first steps. A case in point not to blow my own trumpet, and why I posted. I was on the j5 server, using voice comm's with another player, with only a few players in the server, with names that weren't the usual suspects, we headed to the most obvious opposition base. Low and behold that's were the enemy was. With the advantage of comm's we soon delt with the couple of aircraft that came our way, all fair and square. The German aircraft were also dealing with an SE5a that was hanging about the airfield (another new player). It very quickly became obvious that the German opposition were new to the game and that they were quite happy to spawn in, take off and get stuck in, regardless. The dice were heavily loaded in our favour, comm's, altitude, line of sight, speed, aircraft type. The chances are we could have stayed loitering about, letting them get enough altitude, or not, to be descent, before pouncing on them until such time as our ammo ran out. We didn't do anything wrong, we didn't vulch, but at the same time we had all the cards pre-loaded to our advantage. They might have enjoyed it, but then they might just have, and probably more likely, given up frustrated, eventually. Yes there are ways and means of avoiding being stomped on, as you take off, but if that involves a 10 minute flight just to get shot down anyway then is it a surprise that new players take the quick option. Yes they'll learn, but only if they don't give up frustrated to start with, percieving the game to be too difficult (if only from ignorance). We could have stayed, but thought it better to leave them to it and headed home. We should, in our small space, nuture new players and relish a good, challenging fight, rather than a smack down and padding stats. it won't feel good, for very long, if we just end up playing an ever diminishing number of hardcore players. The game play, at the moment, is fairly limited, if fun, but it could become increasingly repetitive, especially if it just revolves around the same few players. All things considered, actually the player maturity and general level of play has been a cut above in FC. It's very nice to see. Edited March 1, 2020 by HagarTheHorrible

Cappy is often overrun and players just circle around waiting for people to take-off. That might not fall into the first turn thing, but it is vulching if we consider that the airfield have no defenses an you can be above just waiting for people to take-off. I posted videos about the issue. I'm not sure if this happens in all missions (lack of defenses), but over the last weeks I have seen the same behavior over there. That's why I call it slot machine. People go there and circle around engaging everyone until they are either shot down or get out of ammo. Might be fun for some people, but it is not historical or fair to whom is nursing a streak and needs to take-off in such conditions. Even when there is no one over there, you take off and head north and you don't know if someone is bouncing you because the airfield has no flak, you are being tagged by flak from the other side (not sure if the problem was fixed) and we can't see planes bouncing from 200/300 yards above until they are upon us and firing. In my opinion, it is a simple fix. Just place proper defenses on all airfields. If it has been attacked and the defenses are down or crippled, you know it is a gamble, but it is fair game.

This has been a problem for a while now as it is. It'd be a shame if just as a steady injection of new blood were beginning to arrive, it got immediately slapped back down.
Knarley-Bob Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Not too sure if'n I'd want to step into the ring with you boys or not. BUT a guy has to get his feet wet sooner or later. I have an IR track hat on the way, and as soon as I get a little stick time in I'd like to try it out. Just hoping I get a few wing beats in before I get shot to ribbons. I'm also going to have to explore the fuel mixture adjustments to get the Entente birds started, still exploring the keyboard command center on my computer. Any way, later. KB 1

KB You can always jump on with us in the 20th server, Practise against ai then we can go toe to toe for a bit of fun , no worries about going up against any of the big pros. There's even a race course.
No.23_Triggers Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 (edited) I get that new players are going to get slaughtered en masse....but to my thinking that's the nature of being a new player. If you keep pulling punches then they'll be noobs forever.... Let 'em get off the ground, then kill 'em. After enough deaths they might just start giving you a run for your money... ...anyway, there are plenty of squadrons out there looking for new members, plenty veterans ready to give advice....all the noobs need to do is ask... Knarley-Bob Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Thanks to all, I plan on sparring with you guys. I have become proficient with the "Lock on enemy @ straight forward" buttons on my joystick. Can't use them in Flugpark….which is fine. Will take a little bit of time to get used to a head set, when it gets here. All I've flown against is AI, but one must learn on some thing. At least I'm not spinning into the ground so often. Those Entente planes like to spin....That Camel sucks... But I'm forcing myself to learn how to handle them, this way with out an audience? Looking forward to scrapping with you guys, don't worry, I've been knocked down plenty of times in the ring...that's when one starts learning. 1

Good to learn the harder crates as well, it's all too easy to stick with the tamer turn-fighters, but if you become reasonably proficient in all planes you can pick your fave and 'specialise' in it! You're spot on about learning by being knocked down...my RoF education was facing the top Server aces at the time near-daily....some 80+ v-life aces among them! You soon pick up a trick or two fighting guys like that... 1
