DFLion Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) “Rat Catching” – a historical Mission by DFLion taken from Pierre Clostermann’s book ‘The Big Show’. Kenway control was having extreme difficulty picking up the Me262 jets on the Allied radar network because of their 600mph speed. RAF Wing Commanders Lapsley and Brooker have worked out a means of intercepting these jets. The ‘Rat Code’ was born (which was soon called the ‘Bastard Code’ by the pilots). Two pairs of Tempests were kept on a permanent state of immediate alert at Volkel. As soon as a ‘262’ crosses the Rhine towards the Allied lines – ‘scramble rat’ was ordered. The quarry being too fast for any attempt to catch it, the two Tempests would immediately scramble for Rhine/Hopsten jet fighter base ready to intercept them when they slowed down for landing. You are sitting in your Tempest, along with your Wingman and ‘scramble rat’ came over the radio! Good luck! Watch out for the flak. Mission fixed Me262’s now drop their bombs. Utopioneer Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) Love the concept will probably try it out tonight. Took a look at your mission and I think you forgot to trigger the attack area command for the 262s. The trigger waypoint (20747) before the attack area command should trigger the attack area command (20788). On those command MCUs you object link to WHO should be commanded, and you target link to them to determine WHEN they should be activated. Edited February 27, 2020 by Utopioneer
DFLion Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Thanks 'Utopioneer' - you nailed it, all working now. I will update the post. DFLion

jeanba Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I tried the mission : The 262 are circling somewhere and are shot down long before I arrive above the airfield It looks they do not behave as expected in version 5.101
DFLion Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Hi everybody, 'jeanba' is right, for some reason now the 262's keep circling in this mission and eventually get shot down over their target area (they didn't in the original mission). I will now try and fix this, so they will arrive back over their base and Clostermann and his Wingman can attack them. I think this is because of the upgrade changes to the version 5.101, changes some of the 'AI' programming. Sadly in the mission building, there has always been issues with 'ground attack'/'high level bombing' - in the original IL2 Sturmovik under Oleg Maddox, ground attack and high level bombing worked very well. I would like to see a more comprehensive 'how to ground attack'/'high level bombing' in the mission builder forum under an official mission builder guide which is regularly updated. DFLion 1 1
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Hi DF, have had similar issue from the start with the download, first had to go to Bin/Editor/STEditor/tools/resave all missions in folder to be able to fly the mission, then not a single 262 showed up at their airfield, what to do now ? shall I delete the original download and try again ? Cheers
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Got it to work 2nd time, uninstalled mission/ reinstalled with new download/ but still had to reinstall via STEditor/tools/resave all missions in folder to get the thing to fly ! Flew mission and shot down a 262 in patrol area who was attempting to land. Not sure if the number of 262's encountered is random each time I re fly the mission ? Cheers
