jollyjack Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 (edited) Hi. i've been experimenting with waypoints for trains, a vehicle convoy and some ships. Long routes, Arras map, summer, and approx 15 to 20 waypoins along the routes. Around Lille BTW. But even setting that amount of waypoints makes all parties getting stuck after ' take off' besides tracks, roads, and river shores ... is there a bug involved or am i at fault? Zooropa_Fly Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Quite frankly moving stuff about via the ME is a pain in the bottom. My advice is keep things as simple as you can. Otherwise it'll be Christmas again before you know it. If you keep vehicles on the roads and use the 'on road' formation command, you don't need lots of waypoints. The vehicle will follow the road to the waypoint whether or not there are corners / junctions etc. en-route. The first map I did in RoF, I had bots landing in hangars, vehicle and tank columns driving complex routes through Lille (off-road) and having fights, lengthy barge journeys guided under bridges, timed bombings / fires, trains going over bridges in synch with a boat going under it (lol) etc. etc. Took months off my life, and no b*st*rd even noticed all of the above . Objects in columns often run into and merge with eachother. You can spend hours and days jigging waypoints / timers / priorities / commands.. trying to avoid things as this, and objects generally bumping into buildings. Is it all worth it ? Keep it simple, the software really isn't refined enough to do complex things with moveable objects. S!
jollyjack Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) OK thanks .. done, the convoy now works, only the ships get stranded, except for the ' leader' ... PS you mention the word 'bot': what is a bot in Great Battles? I understood from game sites that a bot is a sometimes not allowed Ai player in more difficult games? I posted this mission here, started by Motherbrain, and i just added stuff to it, nothing fancy, and the ships still don't get very far without starnding.
