WIS-Redcoat Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) I recently switched back to VKB and bought the new MkIII stick with the extension. I do love how it feels but was wondering about putting double springs into it? You are given a bunch of "50" springs which are indicated for use with the extension, but I have seen people say that the cams are made to handle double springs and even that the stick is designed for a "50" and a "30"; but no more. I could not find any official advice on this matter nor a recommended way of using double springs. Does anyone here have experience with this before I simply drop some more into this VKB base? dburne Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Are you talking Gladiator or Gunfighter MK III? I am not aware of a Gladiator MK III, just Mk II. If Gunfighter certainly yes, you will see two notches available on each axis to accommodate two springs. I myself am running one each #50 on each axis with my Gunfighter MK III Pro with 200mm extension and find that just perfect for my taste. I would not recommend more than a 50 and a 30, especially as these new cams in the MK III are aluminum rather than steel. You can see my review of the new Gunfighter MK III Pro L here. WIS-Redcoat Posted February 25, 2020 Author Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Yes I meant Gunfighter, fixed. -Thanks I read your review and it was very helpful. I don't know yet that I will use more than the single 50, but coming from the stiff Thrustmaster it does feel quite loose. I might just need to get use to it. I did see others mention double springs but I wasn't sure if they needed to be oriented a certain way to keep from rubbing etc, and I also never saw any official advice on what tension is appropriate for the hardware. My first sim was Red Baron and Aces of Pacific on a Compaq 486... such good times. Edited February 25, 2020 by WIS-Redcoat
dburne Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Yep Red Baron was my first also on a 386 lol. On the springs when using two, just watch the coil orientation. Back when I was using two I turned the coil to the inside on the inside spring, and to the outside on the outside spring. Not sure if it really matters but I thought it helped keep a little tension off from the two coils pushing into each other. Don't forget you can also dial a little friction into the stick with the clutches - just something else you can play around with. Edited February 25, 2020 by dburne
