Mikael Carlson DVIIF (hopefully not too invisible)

Hi all,

 

I know Mikael Carlson doesn't have the F model but he does have the DIIIau and I think the BMW is closer in game to what an over-compressed DIIIau might be. Whatever. it's an F so there. ?

 

I tried to take some of the weathering off to clean it up a little as his plane is immaculate. Gave it some nice brass/brazing stuff on the nose, removed the bullet rails and and tried matching the lozenge the (with the incomplete pattern that I use) against various photos. Lighting is an issue. Some photos of his plane show a  dark lozenge then others show a lighter lozenge. I had to brighten it up a bit more as the dark version I initially did was too dark for the game but it looked really cool in the FC Viewer. I think I found a nice balance.

 

He bought his lozenge fabric from a museum in Berlin that had it made for a Halberstadt that they were restoring 20 years ago. Interesting thing is the way he applied the pattern to the wings. Every piece was laid out in the same direction! If you've done models or researched this stuff you know that most of the time it was laid out differently than that. Like I said, I tried matching it the best I could. I'm pretty satisfied that it looks cool.

 

I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed wasting my time making it. ?
