Sybreed Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Playing career mode tonight when I noticed my frames were a lot lower than usual. The counter would say 40, but I'd say it felt like 15 and I usually get around 70-80 at 2k resolutions. Not knowing what was happening, I opened the task bar and noticed I had a lot of Chrome windows opened. I closed them all, and my frames literally doubled. Never have I had a game that much affected by chrome eating RAM. Game was running much more smoothly as soon as I closed all chrome tabs. And I got 32 gigs of RAM, so my computer isn't necessarily the problem... So, people, always close chrome before playing this game and you'll see a nice jump in FPS and smoothness!! 1

Lots of applications nowadays seem extremely memory intensive for almost no reason. Memory has gotten relatively cheap and everyone making software seems to assume they don’t need to bother optimizing for memory usage. Browsers are nearly the worst, surpassed by f******** Origin launcher, which consumed half my RAM just while running in the background.
TCW_Brzi_Joe Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Closing Chrome does not close their background apps by default. I found that long ago, and I do it on every pc: link PS; after changing this setting, just make sure not to have open chrome while playing IL-2. 1
NiiranenVR Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) Could be something , but in my pc it's only 4 % - I have 16 GB mem Edited February 24, 2020 by Niiranen-VR

It may be the world's most-used browser and may have been a breath of fresh air when it was released, but there are plenty of alternatives out there these days. Take MS Edge for example... looks like Chrome, works like Chrome (it's based on the same engine), has more privacy options, less resource usage, and generally runs faster. I made the switch recently and haven't looked back.

Use script blockers besides common ad blockers. Or a plugin that supports both. It is plain disgusting what „reputable“ web pages try to make your computer do. Selective loading of things internet is also your best chance to keep your system clean. It is no problem for webpages to consume most of your systems resources. I mean, you might even have been mining coins until you closed that browser. If you rely on a „scanner“ to ward off the evil, then you are free lunch anyway.
