HBB*Hunger Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Salute Editor community! Does anyone of you guys have experiences with the optimal distance between wayponts of ships? In the past I've encountered the phenomenon of stopping ships when the distance between waypoints is too big. Since I'm not interested in putting like 100000 Waypoints for one ship, I have to ask the question if there is somekind of "optimal" distance. Thank you! Hunger
Gambit21 Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Placing waypoints is as simple as “shift click” so just place them “close enough” and get on with it. I never did any testing to see what max allowable distance was because there was simply no need.
HBB*Hunger Posted February 23, 2020 Author Posted February 23, 2020 Thank you, but that was not my question. The question is about ship waypoints, cause their distance to each other has an influence on the ships behavior. If the distance is larger, there is a point where the ship just doesn't move forward anymore. So there must be somekind of optimal wp2wp distance for ships
Zooropa_Fly Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Waypoint 'priority' can effect behaviour. If it's set to 'low' then the object can get distracted by other things.

Find a medium distance that works, then proceed to place your waypoints - you can eyeball it just fine and I've had no issues. Edited February 23, 2020 by Gambit21
IckyATLAS Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I tested distances between waypoints for ships and with 5 km between waypoints no problem at all. With 6 or more you may get into trouble and strange things may happen, like ships going backwards and other stuff. We do not have these problems with planes.

I tested until yesterday and came to a similar conclusion. My maximum WP distance for ships is ~10km now and I hope that everything will work fine. Sadly its not as simple as simple as “shift click”. Thank you as always guys! Horridoh!

IckyATLAS Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 You can also use the Command Formation with Ships and experiment. Use the Vehicle Offroad Column and see what happens. The problem with ship convoys where you have a leader and the other ships are connected to it is that when the leader turns on the waypoint all ships start turning and the convoy gets disrupted. I am now trying to use the Command Formation to find solutions.
Gambit21 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 I came to the conclusion a long time ago that it’s best to give each ship its own waypoints. Formation MCU with ships just causes problems as soon as any maneuvering begins.

Only when i programmed my Belgian flattop it never listened to any waypoint so far ... ============ On 2/26/2020 at 10:48 AM, IckyATLAS said: You can also use the Command Formation with Ships and experiment. BTW a pity that Sevastopol is just outside the Kuban map, interesting enough for a 'Special' campaign .... https://www.rferl.org/a/crimea-world-war/25375944.html Edited August 16, 2020 by jollyjack
WWSitttingDuck Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 anything over 25k meters from waypoint to ship object is going to cause you issues. If it it the initial waypoint, the ship(s) will just go backwards and forwards. If it is a subsequent waypoint, the ship(s) will stop, then start going backwards, then forward.
