Why i dont like P-47 career?

From the beginning of the career mode, it was my main game mode, and after buying BoBP I also wanted to play in this mode, unfortunately I miscalculated and I regret that I bought this DLC.

The beginning of the USAAF pilot's career is limited to only one aircraft, the P-47, if you did not buy the P-38, which in this mode is simply a hopeless plane, each mission sets you target away from your lines by about 50-80 kilometers, German planes are attacking you from a higher altitude than you and the P-47 at such altitudes has no chance, it is maneuverable like a He-111 at full load.

Such flights without immortality turned on are practically impossible to win, in addition, you have virtually no cover on every flight, you fly in a tight formation like IL-2 Sturmovik`s at low altitude and the enemy spam a dozen fighters on you and most often when you are far behind enemy lines.

So, the survival of the P-47 pilot is very, very low, unless you have immortality turned on in an act of desperation. The career script treats the P-47 as a regular bomber, because 90% of the flights I had were to destroy ground targets.

I know, you don't have to play P-47 because Spitfire is available, but if you want to stick to realism and go through this career as a USAAF pilot, you have two options.
Either buy the P-38 and have any chances to fight fighters and other missions pack than ground attack, or you must use immortality and survive until the P-51 squadrons appear. All this makes my career at BOBP very frustrating and poorly designed for me.

The dm is kaughable especially dewinging it in sives which IIRC has no record of ever happening.

That said did u interlock all controls?  This made a HUGE siff for me. Always try and keep her above 250 mph.

The higher the better.

Intercoolers ARE NOT LIKE A20 OR LA5 set at 50% for them to be flush (not in or protruding- no drag)

Cowl at 0 or 1% seems fine.  Use boost as needed...

Nit as awful as claimed but if the dm was only fixed itd be spot on. She does do ground attack well unfortunately thatsbwhere the DM is most imlm portant.

I have been impressed the DM flaw is dsefinitely in wings and engine.  However I notcied from *ground fire* mynplanes fet the beating of a life time esp in wings and make it home.  Engine shots are the trouble. Regardless it was a curiousity and soon enoigh my transfer to a p38 squadron was sent.  (Thank god zi messed up and somehow didnt chsck ironman. I always do.  This career woulda ended 3 times. 2 prop strikes and 1 time i exited mission (cuz work) literally yards from the friendly lines

Fortunately a big update for damage models is coming and I have high hopes that the P-47's issues (de-winging and engine durability) are solved through a more detailed simulation.

Some of what the OP is having issue here I think is with the history of the setup. P-47's in the 9th AF tended to be sent on attack missions with fighter roles as secondary. It puts the P-47 in a bit of a disadvantaged position hauling heavy loads and feeling like a bit of a bombtruck. Lighten it up and it feels like a fighter again. I am interested to see how the P-47D-22 compares when we get that one (and soon).

Suggest you check out the "P-47 Do's and Dont's" thread

Maybe it will improve your experience?  Good luck.

Currently the P-47 suffers from a very very poor DM and is very bad at attacking ground targets and surviving. Imo the DM/Engine is 99% of the problem with the P-47 currently, if they can fix the DM then the P-47 will be greatly improved.

In-game I wouldn't dare take the P-47 on a low level ground attack mission, it's far too vulnerable. In reality it was one of the best (if no the best) ground attack aircraft that ever flew, there's a reason the A-10 is called the Thunderbolt II.

The P-47 earned its reputation as a durable fighter/fighter bomber, you wouldn't know that by playing this game though.

Fix the DM and you fix the P-47.

I have some hope that things will improve, don't give up just yet. Also you can always advance the career a bit to get the P-51 instead of having to fly in a P-47 squadron.

I was flying her last night in csreer mode.   Keeping her above 250 and being smart and acting like shes a p51 you dont do bad (in rdf to not playing around getting damaged)

Ive come back shot to hell. But the engines are an issue.  Hasnt happened yet but I caved and transferred to a 38 sqdn but Ive been on berloga and those wings come off if a mouse farts in china

I think flown correctly it’s still a great ground attack aircraft. I would agree that the engine seems to be not as durable as desired but if you implement different tactics it’ll survive most of the time. Most of my experience is multiplayer so I can’t say for career mode but if you remember to keep it as light as possible this will give you decent climb performance fully loaded. My typical light load out is 800L of fuel, and 2x1000lb bombs. If I’m going heavy I’ll fit it out completely. Rockets and bombs and still take 800L of fuel. Fully loaded I can climb out at almost 1k ft/min. Light load gets me a little beyond 1.5k ft/min. I also try and climb to altitude usually 10k feet max if I can. As far as attacking targets I have a 2 pass max policy. Any more and your playing with fire. Since after the second pass you are getting pretty slow. Ideally you’d make one pass and go away at high speed for home. It’s still a great plane in game in my opinion. I just find you can’t be careless with the way you fly it.
