how to avoid damaging the BF109 K4 engine in battle

hello

I keep damaging my engine in a dog fight even though i am watching the RPM max to 2600 "30mn" . Once in a while i might be pushing the the throttle too much to above 2800 but i'm sure i'm not exceeding 10mn a go . can you go into max in and out as you please as long as its not over 10mn  in total time  before reusing max 10mn later again ? what could be the cause of my burn ups ?

If you push past 2600 but do not go full throttle to the point that MW50 is engaged, your engine will be stressed and fail at around 1-3 min. This occurs more readily in the 605DB engine. The DC has a bit more leeway.

 

In the K4, if you push past 2600, your safest approach is to go full throttle to ensure MW50 is added to the mixture. Don't mess about inbetween for long periods.

clear , if you use MW50 erratically for short periods 2 mn 3mn 4 mn and back below 2600 within the 10mn limit ,  will that damage the engine ? by that i mean do you recommend longer periods of use once engaged within the 10mn period or is it irrelevant ?

I personally never have had issues running short periods of MW50 as long as I haven't exceeded the 10minute limit and just allow a proportional amount of time to let the engine recover after the stress.

 

Perhaps there are restrictions, but I haven't encountered failures that I can clearly attribute to erratic use (multiple X minute uses in a shorter timeframe) of MW50 during many online combat fights.

 

The most common failure is running at 2700rpm and not having MW50 injection.

Are you using full 100% and mw50 over 6000 m?

sorry late reply cause i wanted more experience . Today online i was escaping and followed closely  and i had it on full throttle and soon enough maybe 4-5 mn max it gave up . i was at 200 mt altitude . i was on 2400 rpm all the way to target and went into combat mode briefly over the target then down to cruise until i was attacked on the way back.

One thing I have found is that the 109 engines especially the K4 do not tolerate rapid throttle inputs. Hell I blew my engine the other day on take off cause I hammered it, tail wheel didnt even get up and it was done pretty embarrassing on busy MP server. Lol First time for that but I have done it often in battle when I'm cutting throttle then hammering it forward trying to get my nose up to get guns on or what not. Gradual inputs they can still be fast ya just gotta kinda make sure it catches up first. As far as emergency power and mw go I cant say much I am so use to flying f4s for the past 4 years I rarely use emergency more than a minute or two makes me nervous. ?
