Requiem Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) I'm starting to work on the Pe-2 famil and was wondering if anyone can give me a quick rundown about the major differences? The webpage says series 87, but the devs are looking for series 87 and 110 skins. I'm under the impression that the difference is found by enabling the blister turret which also changes a couple of dials in the cockpit, so you use that modification to get the series 110. Does this sound right or am I way off? Cheers Edited April 19, 2014 by SYN_Requiem
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Yep that's pretty much it. There weren't huge differences between some of the production series including between the 87 and the 110. Just the powered turret and some other smaller modifications. I think the 87 already added a bunch of extra protection over the early series.
PB0_Foxy Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I have an excelent book about the Pe-2 family Sorry but it is a french book: I think I will write an article for the french section about the Pe-2 with the help of that book An other difference between serie 87 and 110 is the radio compas. In the 87 serie it is a RPK-2 Tchaïka and in the 110 serie it is a RPK-10. The antennas are not the same. You can see them under the nose. RPK-2 have a bublle fairing and RPK-10 doesn't have any fairing at all. I will check in the book the main differences between those series
Requiem Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks very much guys, I'm in the process of figuring how to illustrate the differences and deciphering that cockpit. Flying it is the easy part Figuring out what controls it has without anything being in english coupled with things not being animated is the hard part that sends me a bit bonkers at times
PB0_Foxy Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 here is my job for the cockpit description in the french forum: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5695-description-cockpit-pe-2-serie-87/?do=findComment&comment=107537 I can help you for an english translation if you want so
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 20, 2014 1CGS Posted April 20, 2014 There's also the repeater compass, which is next to the hydraulic pressure gauge.
PB0_Foxy Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Yep . there is a lot of stuff I didn't describe yet to do not overload those screenshots But may be I will do an improved version with more informations
Requiem Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Oh wow great stuff Foxy. An english translated one would be great if you could do it! That would save me a LOT of time.
PB0_Foxy Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 (edited) here it is : I hope it will help you Just for information there is a neutral light for each trim but we can't see them very well in my screenshot They're located just in front of the trim switches The flap indicator is not at the same position in the Pe-2 with or without blister turret. In the blister turret version the flap indicator is just in front of you next to the waypoint indicator In the older version it is on the left side between mixture and throttle levers Edited April 20, 2014 by PB0_Foxy 1
PB0_Foxy Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 oh and about the fuel tank inerting system. At the begining they used nitrogen. But this was a rare gas so they replaced it at the begining of the spring 1942 with exhaust gas filtered and then liquefied
Requiem Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Brilliant, thanks Foxy I'm not sure if the French community uses my videos, but if there is a wish for French translation I could always try out the YouTube feature to translate them.
PB0_Foxy Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 of course many frenchies use and like your videos
PB0_Foxy Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I've found a table in my book about the main modifications between all the Pe2 series. I have to go to work right now so I can't translate all the table but here is what's interesting us (87 series to 110 series) 87 to 109 : Installation of a FT carriage for the navigator with a .50 MG (already installed on some planes of the 83 series) from series 105 : replacement of the radio compas RPK-2 (bubble fairing antenna) by the RPK-10 with his round antenna from series 110 : shortening of the tail cone wich becomes flat (named beavertail) , installation of a Toropov VUB-1 turret (blister turret) with two aerodynamic trims in the shape of two petals equipped with an UBT MG
