Using the gun sights?

I'm sure they aren't there just to look cool. How does one adjust them to work? Is there an owner's manual I should know about?

Nice, but I was thinking more on the lines of the planes in "Flying Circus" I know the principal is the same, but the sights themselves.

If you have TrackIR, you have to center the view (F12), then press F9 to pause it and work with the keys on the Page Up / Down group to align your view to the sightings. Then press F10 to save it. I think this is it. Every time you take the given plane, the sightings will be aligned.

To align it with precision, get into a single player mission and press the time constraint to 1/2 or 1/4 to make the view skip in small increments.

Allied or central sights?

Is there a different way to change both types? I guess I haven't flow enough of them to decide what would be my primary plane. I'm partial to the Fokker DVIIF, with the Goring paint, I built a Fokker DVII RC plane years ago with an almost identical paint job. Mine was red/white, but no lozenge cammo.

O.K. Got it figured out at least for the DVIIF

One must move "The pilot's head" on my computer, it's this way:

Head left..."Delete" key

Head right..."End" key

Head up... the "Page up" key

Head down... the "Page down" key

F10 to save.

These keys are located above the keys that have the arrows for up, down, right, and left. Like I said I'm not too familiar with key boards.

I was on the single plane mode, and auto pilot to screw around with these settings. Just like getting on a rifle to line things up.

This is getting better by the day....thank you guys, appreciate the help?

I'll be back....

KB,

You can also "map" a zoom on sight - a kind of custom view. Press 8 on numpad for example. When pressed, navigate te view using mouse, zoom and Delete, End, PgUp/Down keys. When you are done (when doing so, keep the 8 pressed!), press 10. Then, whenever you will press "8" or "up" on the hat switch on your joystick, it will zoom to your gunsight.

As for myself, I am not using custom sights in the planes, just using tracers (Bristol, D.VIIF), wires (Dr.I), top of the engine block (D.VII, Alb D.Va, Pfalz) or standard gunsight (SPAD 13, Camel). The only exception is Dolphin because I set my position higher to align my sight with the Aldis which can be selected in the options.

As long as one has a reference point, like the bead on a shot gun barrel, one will do better shooting. The iron sights work well, even better if one is lined up on them. Watching tracers is a dandy way to walk your shots into the "Sweet spot". I was using the top of the engine block too, but is a bit vague. My marksmanship has really improved with a reliable starting spot.

Yeah there is totally a method to the sights. Here is a short video on it.
