Total Noob Question

Hi everyone,

I have just bought Flying Circus and love it I have to say. However, I am having one issue that I can't seem to workout. When I am on the ground to take off I cannot do it. I apply throttle and the aircraft always turns to the left, almost as though it wants to go in a circle. I have no rudder pedals and am using a Warthog stick and throttle. Just cannot work out how to keep the aircraft straight for takeoff. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks and sorry as this is likely a simple, noob issue!!!!! ?

Its normal for them to turn, to save the explanation for why this happens: https://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/aerodynamics/why-you-need-right-rudder-on-takeoff-to-stay-on-the-centerline/. And the answer for how you have to counter that turning its to use your rudders. Do not need to have rudder pedals but you ought to bind something to their in game controls and use them. In the Circus there are very few aircraft that have any sort of trimming controls, and those that do are limited to elevators anyway.

Welcome!

I’m jealous of yourWarthog HOTAS!

It’s true that you will need pedals. A twist stick is another possibility, but that’s not an option with your (excellent) Warthog stick. The good news is that you won’t have to break the bank to get decent pedals. Thrustmaster TFRP pedals will go great with it.

Apply throttle slowly, not immaterially to 100%, and counter the tendency of the plane to turn left or right with some rudder, Once you start moving, push a bit of stick forward so that your tail lifts of the ground and you gain speed easier. Let the plane lift itself or apply very gently backwards stick.

Get some second hand pedals on e-Bay or something. If you get hooked, then you can upgrade your pedals later on. The second best option would be a twisting stick, but you already have a good stick, so I would look for some pedals. You won't regret it. You can also make a DIY pedal.

Do use autorudder realism option . This can be used in single player , but for long run and immersion , better handling and aiming I recommend buying rudder .

If one doesn't have the money to hand - getting a joystick with a twist feature can work. I've used one for years. Investing in rudder pedals is a good idea though if you are planning on flying helicopters (not in this sim obviously). It is also less fatiguing to use rudder pedals with some WWI aircraft.

Imho you need rudder pedals to enjoy FC.

Not only for starts/landings.

Some of the planes, especially the ones with rotary engines, benefit a LOT from rudder pedals, also in comparison to a twist axis.

Cannot imagine to fly the Fokker Dr1 without pedals. At least not as it should be flown.
