JaMz Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 (edited) Hi Guys, So I have keys mapped for Prop pitch manual/auto and I know it works as it's fine in the 109's For some reason in the Spit and 51, it's not changing from manual to auto and I'm constantly having to adjust the pitch manually.. It's not a major issue but I'd like to know what I'm missing, as simple as it probably is. Thanks in advance Edited February 13, 2020 by Playerone

Every plane in the sim, with the exception of All of those planes have a certain amount of automation, but the 109 is more automatic, in that you only have to control the throttle. The Spitfire and the P-51 both have constant speed propellers where you have to set the RPM in addition to the throttle. You don't manually control the propeller pitch, you set the RPM and the constant speed propeller essentially calculates the best angle for the propeller be at and adjusts the propeller based on an electrical or hydraulic system built into the propeller. For the P-51D, in the tech specs, it says this:"Engine RPM has an automatic governor that controls the propeller pitch to maintain the required RPM." You, as the pilot, still set the required RPM via the propeller RPM control on the throttle quadrant. There is no 'fully manual' setting where you control the prop pitch as far as I know, but neither is there a fully automatic setting like the 109 has. The 109s also have constant speed propellers, but they have an additional system that automatically sets the RPM for you based on your throttle setting. So you don't have to set the RPM yourself. But the 109 allow you to switch to manual propeller pitch to directly control the angle of the propeller pitch - not setting the RPM, but setting whether the blade angle is finer, or coarser. This setting on the propeller blade will influence the RPM. You basically adjust the propeller pitch to maintain a desired engine RPM, keeping it in the 'power band' as it were. I don't mess around with manual stuff, I just use the constant speed propeller and call it a day, although I have heard that using manual pitch allows you to squeeze a bit of performance out of the engine that you can't get in auto mode.
JaMz Posted February 13, 2020 Author Posted February 13, 2020 I understand.. Thank you for the reply ?
