BornToBattle Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 This may be old news but a simple video showing how to get the most speed out of your P-47D-28. The video is embedded within the article discussion. https://stormbirds.blog/2018/11/29/get-the-most-out-of-the-p-47d-28-in-il-2/ Thought it may be of assistance to those thinking or just transitioning over to the P-47. I’m coming from the P-40 so babysitting power-plants in these American birds is kinda second nature to me by now. (I’m one of those guys who concentrates on flying just a few aircraft for a thorough amount of time before transitioning over to another type). 1

I've been flying the P-47 very nearly exclusively for a while now. This video was very helpful starting out to get best performance. The added complexity of the turbocharger and shutters is a bit over and beyond the other planes so its nice to see a video like that that sums it all up thoroughly. And if anyone knows how to get the most out of a plane, its Sheriff!

And if anyone knows how to get the most out of a plane, its Sheriff! I’m looking forward to it myself! The Ol’ Jug has always been a favorite of mine but I think because of the reasons you just mentioned I have kinda shied away from it in IL-2 but am now determined to learn it come hell or high water. This video really helped me as I think one chief concern of mine was “why is this such a dog when it comes to speed” and not taking an in depth look at the turbo and required settings along with the water injection system plus being ignorant of such things as cowl flap settings didn’t help me any in cozying up to her. I’m really looking forward now to just doing some “training flights” with just my plane in quick combat and learning the “do’s and don’ts” of the P-47. Check six! BTW Red - do you ever interlock the turbo with the throttle or keep it unlocked regardless? Curious cuz it seems to be rather a pilot preference thing. Edited February 13, 2020 by BornToBattle
