VBF-12_Stele Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 I'm getting into the making some tank missions, but I'm noticing some behaviors of the AI tanks. Enemy tanks don't seem to fire unless you're somewhere within the range of 500m to 800m. On a flat field I would think that some of the tanks such as the Tiger would fire at me at a much farther distance (ie-1200+ meters). It doesn't matter the tank, they all fire at a fairly close range. In the editor, Is there a way to have them fire at longer distances?
IckyATLAS Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 Try to use the Attack on specific targets, or Attack Area MCU at different distances and see if it does change. Check also for the terrain, that there is no terrain obstruction. It should be line of sight type of shooting to check for distances. Use also the force complete command set to low on the tanks to guarantee maximum firepower.
Jaegermeister Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 I get them to fire at 800-900 meters on level ground. Yes, that’s very close. Same with machine guns. Does not seem to matter what kind of tank. Artillery fires at longer distances but not as far as you would imagine.
IckyATLAS Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 I could not find data on the maximum practical firing range of a Sherman, but it seems that combat range with destructive impact was up to 1000 meters or 1200 yards. If someone has better values thanks to share. The Tiger II tank was effective 80% at 1000 meters and 40% at 2000 meters. This means the Tiger II would take down a Sherman from a distance where the Sherman gun would have been completely ineffective.
