fiddlinjim Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 I use the Pimax 5K+ HMD (i7-7700K and 1080Ti) exclusively for my flying but have found that using the Track IR5 is much better in Tank Crew. The VR clarity while flying is totally sufficient to enjoy both IL2 and DCS but the lack of VR clarity in Tank Crew prevents my being able to shoot accurately. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue or has someone found a solution to a lack of an adequate VR zoom?
Panzerlang Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Fortunately I'm happy to play tank games on my monitor. Air sims, I can't enjoy them that way any longer.

Tank Game-S !? How many still-relevant 'tank--games-sims' are still out there (not counting the real 'military' ones) ??? I too love tank sims but until I got IL-2 Tank Crew there, AFAIK, not many out there !? It also amazes met the Pimax 5K is not considered awesome for TC and better than TrackIr !??? But since I don't have any headset yet I of course was only ... guessing. Please enlighten me.
Panzerlang Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 There are two FPS games featuring armour, though both are unfortunately arcade fantasy. Post Scriptum (both side's tanks are equally bent, though that obviously impacts the German armour more negatively) and Hell Let Loose in which the tanks are disgustingly allied biased. Insult to injury with that one is "because axis tanks are so superior we're giving the allied team four or five Shermans against the axis Tiger or Panther and it's turretless buddy (StuG or Jagdpanzer). In the game the Tiger and Panther are no better than the Shermans. Plus the Tiger can be insta-boomed with one hit to its track. They are beautiful games though. Skin deep however.
simfan2015 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 (edited) Post Scriptum as well as Hell Let Loose are on-line only games but indeed look fantastic !!! There is also ... World of Tanks and ... War Thunder of course ... more of the same arcady type of tank experience. AFAIK Tank Crew is still my personal best choice as a state-of-the-art tank/integrated battlefield sim !? Edited February 12, 2020 by simfan2015

AFAIK Tank Crew is still my personal best choice as a state-of-the-art tank/integrated battlefield sim !? It's the most realistic, if we discount Iron Front (ArmA based). But it's not perfect. I've given up with SP, the tank-shake from having every AI pinging rounds off my tank has killed it for me. Who knew a couple of kilos of AP steel could shake a Tiger around like a naval artillery barrage.
skpcarey1 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 In VR TC is hopeless just not near as clear visually as the Air combat portion(im hoping the devs fix it) but it is unplayable even in a good HMD (I have an index ) and a high end rig Spotting targets at range is next to impossible but not so on a monitor and the clarity difference is night and day better on a monitor(which makes spotting distant targets stupid difficult) Its a shame to because TC has so much potential.
Panzerlang Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 VR is still in its infancy, comparable now to where it'll be in ten/twenty years to where 13" CRTs were decades ago.

Then why does the Air portion of IL2 look and perform great in VR ,Running the exact same graphics settings is unplayable in TC ?that tells me its not my HMD(im hoping one of the devs can clear this up)or at least give me an idea why Edited February 15, 2020 by skpcarey1
simfan2015 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Not only in VR... TC is far more demanding. But this is normal... Dense map, surrounding not clear skies etc. It's an assault on frames per second. Maybe other reasons for it too though???

I agree that the flying part in VR is absolutely sufficient, for flying i use the Flat 2D thing only for some quick tests while I'm building missions. Sadly i have also to agree that the aiming in TC is not usable for distances over ~700m. The zoom is somehow flickering and the "crosshair" is barely to see. I hope the devs will find a solution for this. Because the part of driving a tank (the feeling of sitting in a tank) is quite fun. It's not only the VR Hardware. In my oppinion it also depends a lot on good program code . Il2 made a huge VR step in the past 1,5 year. To use it in VR is much more fun for me now, without changing any of my hardware. Just because Il 2 aswell as SteamVR made a lot of progress in this time. To fight ground targets seems to be much easier to me, nowadays. Edited February 18, 2020 by CorvusX
