Further Development of Career?

Huh, that's fascinating! I never knew that.

I think from an American perspective, it felt strange to just get award after award when my conception of the US military is that they're relatively hesitant to hand out something of that level. But I appreciate the clarification!

A very grim fact was that on the opening days of Barbarossa Soviet pilots in the central fronts had on average 3-5 hours of flight experience, almost no training in BFM or night flying, and served in an organization that executed squadron commanders for sabotage in the event of crashes where pilots or even aircraft were lost. Squadrons flying the newer aircraft barely received flight time to specialize in them prior to combat due to the aforementioned stifling organizational culture of the VVS at the time. There was even one instance where a MiG-3 pilot failed to shoot down a Fiesler Storch because he did not know to disengage the gun trigger safety catch prior to engaging.

The point being even an inexperienced pilot demonstrating success in spite of those odds is an immeasurably valuable commodity. They deserved every bonus, medal, and commendation they got.

Well, yes and no, I think. Such core systems are certainly not directly related to the career mode, but they nevertheless could have a big impact on single-player experience (I assume most SP gamers play mostly in career mode, as I do).

But I agree with you that the career mode we already have is a pretty solid one and I for sure am having a ball playing with.

Not as solid and engaging as career mode in ROF...those recon missions and arty marking. But its OK...I guess...

I would love to see a career mode for Flying Circus.

Fly Patrick's, that's what it's there for.

Jason had FC developed with Patrick's career in mind, he didn't neglect that aspect of FC.

Sadly il2 1946 still blows this sim out of the water in regards to singleplayer content. It's pretty much unmatched. Moreover there are a few other games that do better in this regard as well. The career is a bore and could never get past 2-3 missions. You just end up flying circles waiting for contact in half the missions. The radio commands between your flight are pretty much useless, the GCI is non existent, things games from 15 years ago had in spades we are missing completely here. Maybe instead of another 90 dollar plane pack we could get some proper core gameplay updates. If the career was at least dynamic and kept tally of troop movements and a front line where taking out some tanks actually meant something maybe that'd spice it up. As of right now I'd rather fire up 1946 with some DCG or some great mods to enjoy. Very excited for Cliffs Africa expansion to release, with the promise of some nice sp content it all looks very exciting. Hopefully it does well. That game carried over a lot of the great things from 1946.

Haha! Reading the p-47 thread just below this one reminded me of all the great ground attack missions we had. I'll need to hop on soon. Been too long.
