adler_1 Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 hello what is needed for me to record chit chat during missions to be played during the mission either with keys or random . so for example if you press patrol , cover me , attack , go back to base the sound plays .
Gambit21 Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 I use a lot of custom radio calls - but not possible in the way you’re attempting (using AI command/keys)

If you're a programmer, this is possible via the Server Input MCU, which allows external software to communicate with the loaded map using the console service (rcon). The console service can be enabled in the .cfg file.
adler_1 Posted February 10, 2020 Author Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) so how do i make the custom calls for single missions , not online . what is required ? microphone , which recording software and type of file ? mp3 ? they are activated by the trigger MCU and draws from the play sound folder i believe . IckyATLAS Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) I use Panopreter 64 text to speech software, where I have choice of two voices male and female. You can vary, tone and speed. I use Audacity to mix sounds and generate various formats. To have the message more radio like I use a recording of a military type radio static, and mix it to my messages. Not perfect but good enough. Messages can be between control tower and you that is ground to plane, or from flight leader to you. You can trigger these for example using the Proximity Trigger MCU. If you are farther than a certain distance to the leader then you may get a message asking you to keep formation, inverse when you are back another message. Or when you approach target, or whatever other reason. What I am missing is a text to voice synthesizer where you can also vary the voice style, like alarmed, angry, happy etc.. adler_1 Posted February 10, 2020 Author Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) ICKYATLAS hello I just installed Audacity and set up my microphone and saved as MP3 , tried it out and works perfect . I am going to include them as i said in triggers events and go from there . Thanks for pointing out the proximity MCU trigger which i have never used in a mission to generate a file at start up or in a proximity situation . As you point out making authentic like sounding files is the challenge . I dont speak German even though i am Swiss as well "ticino" retired , i can do maybe achtung !!! Amerikaner !! schweinhund !! i have many voice files of different nationalities from the old IL2 mods . Will take a look and see if they need to be converted to MP3 . With panopreter 64 can i type a text in English and will it translate to another language and record as well ? If yes i could memorise the phrase and record with the countries accent . LLv34_Temuri Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Has anyone checked how these would work with multiplayer? Do the clients download the mp3s?
adler_1 Posted February 10, 2020 Author Posted February 10, 2020 LLv34 I play online everyday and honestly i dont see how adding audio to events can work , its too much . However you could try contacting the experts such as Alonzo at Combat box red flight and see what he says .
LLv34_Temuri Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 48 minutes ago, dog1 said: i dont see how adding audio to events can work Well, the clients already download ~1 MB msnbin file from the server. A common MP3 compression setting is a bitrate of 128 kbps and a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. This produces a file size of roughly one megabyte per minute.
adler_1 Posted February 10, 2020 Author Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) would be nice if we could also add keys to sound , this way we have triggers and when giving orders . Edited February 10, 2020 by dog1

I tried, but it was a long time ago. It worked. Just make sure that it's located where the mission can use it, e.g. the same location as the mission file itself. 1

If you type french or german text maybe it will be read wit english accent. May be funny, haven't tried.
adler_1 Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 i used google to translate the English to German phrases such as good kill !! land at base , alert soviet fighters , cover me , start your engines etc and then read them into audacity and created the MP3 files and attached them to the events of the mission . The German accent is easy . The British is more complex with snob , cockney , Kiwi and Aussie accents while the US accent again can depend on the region the pilot comes from .
IckyATLAS Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 (edited) There is a software text to speech with a large variety of voices (64 I think) and costs just 49 Euros. The name is Voice Reader Home from Linguatec. I do not know if it is possible to vary the tones. Edited February 12, 2020 by IckyATLAS

Send me a PM if you need American voice files for radio transmissions not in the game. My voice is already one of the American pilots / ground controller and I am set up to record voice clips. It doesn’t take very long to do.

Gambit21 Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 No idea about MP - but the sound file needs to be accessed locally.

I can answer this. Yes, you can have sounds (and other media) in multiplayer - just like single player. However, all players will hear the sound effect; regardless of whether it's coop or deathmatch. So, if you want to have a 'Good job landing that damaged bird!' sent to a single player (or maybe just to a single coalition), that is not possible through the mission editor. 1
