Spit Mk IX speeds in Career.

Ok so I am many missions into a Spit Mk IX Career in Bodenplatte.

We eventually got the clipped wing Spits, and now I think maybe we got new engines as I am seeing boost go up to +24 lbs now at low altitudes.

 

However, it would seem my AI wingmen are abusing this. Load up a mission, and see the MPH listed on mission map of 249 MPH.

My wingmen however are  off and leaving me,  and I am cruising at just below +8 lb boost and 2500 rpm or so. So I am flying around 270 MPH, and yet the AI is running away from me. Obviously this is when I am not the Leader of the flight.

 

So what is going on here - are these guys flying in combat mode or higher? How are their engines holding up, oftentimes I have around 100 miles just to the waypoint action point?

Spit Mk IX can maintain combat settings for an hour straight, you don't really need to about the engine holding other than with emergency power.

The engine will take it but fuel would be something more of an issue on long sorties. A while back when I was playing an I-16 career in BoM the AI routinely reached bingo fuel well before the end of the sortie, turning back 2 thirds of the way of the escort. I was flight leader and had been flying max economical settings with lean mixture so I was able to stay with the bombers. The AI, as far as I know, does not lean the fuel mixture much if at all in order to preserve fuel.

OK thanks,  I will have to do that then to keep up with the AI, and just hope for the best on fuel because at the point I am in with my Career these are some

very long missions.

 

Just odd they are going so dang fast when the mission planner shows a much slower ingress speed.

It may have something to do with the tweaks they made recently to make the fighter/bomber careers fly the correct speed. Maybe everyone started flying a little faster?

I am "assuming" the changed occurred at whatever point in Career we got the new engines, as I noticed my boost now goes much higher.

It was then that the AI flight started running off and leaving me.
