Knarley-Bob Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I couldn't get the engine to start. I can't smell any gas, so I' not sure if it was flooded or not. Throttle setting? Some thing I need to do? Or, try different plane?
Garven Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Did you make sure your mixture was set to 100 percent before starting?

Or do I need to set a mixture valve some where? Yes, I pressed "E" for engine start, on and off quite a few times. Had the throttle at quite a few settings too. My snow blower likes to be primed, and the choke on, but I couldn't find those either on the dash....

Yes you need to map a control to mixture. The Entente kites need mixture set at 100% to start the engine. Then knock it back to, say, 85% for take off and further reduce with altitude to maintain rpm. If you look out of the back of the plane and see black/brown smoke you're too rich (too high%). 1
Knarley-Bob Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) Maybe, one of these days I'll figure out the computer stuff. Sorry, but I guess it's over my head @ this time. I'll stay off line and not bother you folks...... Edited February 2, 2020 by Knarley-Bob
NO.20_W_M_Thomson Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 WOW buddy don't give up, Your keys are probably mapped already, to adjust mixture you hit right alt and the = key, the mixture will come up on your right side of the screen, will go from 0 to 100, once it hit 100% hit the e key and the engine will start, then trim the mixture to 85% by holding the right alt and - key until you get to 85% or so. you'll need to open your radiator if you have one, that's the right ctrl and plus and minus keys. watch your gages for rpms and temperatures and . you want to keep your rpm's up as high as you can in level flight so adjust as you go, DO NOT let them get to high on a dive so just throttle down as you dive, don't let the temp hit the red line marks. If you ever need help there are a number of guys on Team speak or discord that can and will help. No one is an ace at the beginning. Not all plane have fuel mixture, all of the entente planes do and only the dr1 on the evil central side do. Have fun mate and don't expected to be the great W_M_Thomson at the first crack at flying. 1 1
Knarley-Bob Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) At this point, by the time I find the right keys to punch, I have already augured into the ground. Off line I can hit "Pause" and figure things out. Quit? I'm having too much fun to do that.? Is there a manual for all these little tid-bits of knowledge? Where does one go to be enlighted? Many thanks, KB Edited February 2, 2020 by Knarley-Bob

US103_Baer Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 (edited) Fly an Albatros, Red colour scheme is good. Just Press 'E', no mixture to remember. Cross the lines via shortest route at 1000m. Sure to meet some action Edited February 3, 2020 by US103_Baer

Cross the lines via shortest route at 1000m. Sure to meet some action It requires a radiator valve ;). But you can map radiator to your throttle valve, usually you want both open or closed at the same time. In most planes you can map mixture and radiator controls to keys, too. They don't really need quick adjustments, just set them to optimal and leave it there, reset if needed and leave it there again. Edited February 3, 2020 by J2_Trupobaw
No.23_Triggers Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Doesn't bother us if you ask for some pointers here - in fact, the RoF / FC community has a very "the more the merrier" approach to online! I'm guessing you were flying one of the Entente planes - which require the fuel mixture to be set before take-off. If you go into the settings and find 'Engine Controls' you should be able to bind some controls for the fuel mixture. It's worth setting up the Water Radiator controls while you're at it! In-game, once you spawn in, set the fuel mixture to 100%, then start the engine - once it's idling reduce to 85% and you're good to go! When flying in the 'Full Real' servers, you'll have to regulate both the fuel mixture and radiator while flying, for maximum temperature / RPM. The higher you go, the more lean (or the lower %) you'll want your fuel mixture. It sounds a little scary, but it's really not so hard once you've gotten used to it - which shouldn't take too long! Hope to see you up there
