HappyHaddock Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) Some may know that I've spent a considerable amount of time experimenting with modding the look of the natural world in IL-2, but I wondered if anybody here might be able to offer assistance with a problem I've encountered. I know that the full Mission editor is a powerful tool which unfortunately I am wholly unfamiliar with, so I'm wondering if it is possible to move/re-map the locations of trees and woods on any particular map? Typically I can "mod" a lot of the things I want to change by editing the respective files controlling them, where most though not all, are graphical textures which can be edited in something like photoshop. I'm yet to positively identify which file actually controls the locations of the trees and woods on each individual map but I suspect it is either woods.wds or forest_map.wtr Since the wds and wtr file formats are unique to IL-2 they are not easy to make sense of and edit, but it may well be the case that the full mission editor has the capability to move trees and generate the appropriate files needed to then import into the game engine? As such I wondered if this was something others understood or knew how to achieve? many thanks HH Edited February 1, 2020 by HappyHaddock

Thanks for the reply even if it is disappointing to hear this... not that being told that things are impossible has always been a barrier to getting them done in the past. I may just have to apply a bit (a lot?) of lateral thinking and see if I can come at the problem from another angle, if nothing else it will give the "little grey cells" something to mull over for a while. Cheers HH
WWSitttingDuck Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Have to agree with Gambit. Have always been extremely disappointed with 1C's decision to encrypt all the files.

As far as I'm aware, the game assets aren't encrypted in the sense that they are intentionally made difficult to read. Of course, that doesn't mean that it's easy to reverse engineer the proprietary formats. Edited February 5, 2020 by Mitthrawnuruodo
WWSitttingDuck Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 this is a section of fakefield.col from ROF AllObjects = 13 [Object = 0] Name="build_00" this is the same section of fakefield.col from BOX 䏣架ﲬ it is basically the same info you see in the ROF file. just scrambled/encrypted The list of incredibly usefull ad-ons from ROF (not mods, but ad-ons) we got from Vander/Genuis/ and I forget the name of the rest of builders is endless, and includes an entire friggin Island.
