71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Having a hell of a time getting any higher that 21,000ft. http://youtu.be/eLTPh2tmnT4 disregard the disco as mrsacamuelas want to point out. (during alpha test) Edited April 18, 2014 by 71st_Mastiff
senseispcc Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Normal the PE-2 is a tactical bomber not destined to go and bombard cities! But an empty PE-2 prototype should reach 28.870 ft. Edited April 18, 2014 by senseispcc
LLv34_Flanker Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 S! The recon flights conducted by Pe-2's along the Finnish southern coast were intercepted at altitudes of 7-8km. Bombing Pe-2's came in at a considerably lower altitude, around 3-5km with escorts staggered above them.
senseispcc Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 It seems that the PE-2 normal level bombing and recon flight altitude is 5000m in case of dive bombing it colud has low has 3000m with 3 group of escort fighters one above one medium altitude and one at the dive recover altitude. Feathered_IV Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 After trying some MP over the last week, it seems anything over 2000 metres is high enough to keep you out of harms way. All the fighter types seem to be under the clouds and don't venture very high at all..
BraveSirRobin Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 That's probably not a good working assumption once we get more realistic servers.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 I had super charger on and 50% fuel.
Brano Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Depends on which engine we have modelled now. This early series had M105R/RA engines. They had better high altitude performance then M105PF which were specially tuned for low-to-middle altitudes performance. M105PF was introduced wit 179th series.(due to unification of engine production only PF version was produced since then) So flying anywhere higher then 4k is not good idea, you will lose lot of power.

Both altitudes seem fairly high for bombing, do you happen to know whether they did also low level bombing runs with Pe-2s?
LLv34_Flanker Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 S! Pe-2's used mostly dive bombing against Kotka harbour. Other types did level bombing, like the Pe-8 shot down over Helsinki by the German night fighter unit stationed there.
senseispcc Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Personally the Lagg-3 goes to 8300m in altitude no much more in twenty minutes: click to view in full size.

But the most common where the dive tactical ground support missions. Do not forget there was a version of the PE-2 with sometime externals extra paper fuel tanks for recon missions.
