Ghostrider147 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Hey fam, Recently I upgraded to an i7-9700k (full specs in signature) and IL-2 (and DCS especially) run very nicely now in VR (Rift S), but I encountered as very strange issue when flying in user missions in VR. According to the in game FPS counter as well as OTT (Oculus Tray Tool) I get perfect FPS (80 FPS constant, same goes for 40 FPS + ASW), but the game feels like it literally runs at 30/40 FPS. The frametimes according to OTT are well below 12.5 ms for both the CPU and GPU. Lines in the FPS graph are as straight and constant as they could be. I find this very strange as the game runs perfectly fine in the Quick Mission Builder and Career mode is pretty smooth too. For reference, DCS runs perfectly fine on my PC in VR as well. I did some testing, and it really seems to be mission related. I've tested complex missions with loads of aircraft and other units and I've tried really simple ones, but the game just feels like a slideshow, but just in these missions. QMB and Career mode feel smooth. Has anyone ever seen this? I'm curious, let's do some science

Basically, everything that moves in this game has it's own a.i. 'brain'. Be it a truck, a searchlight, an anti-aircraft gun or the rear gunner in an IL2. All these a.i. routines absorb cpu power. The more objects in a mission, the more demand on the cpu. A Quick mission won't have too many objects, career mode I can't really comment on as it's not something I use. However, if the guy who made the single mission in the editor is a bit too generous with the amount of vehicles, flak and aircraft he has used and it's placed relatively close together on the map then the game can do exactly what you describe. The game will remain smooth, the frame rate counter will still show (correctly) that the game is putting out a healthy fps but time slows down.
