No only in 1,5 Caucasus, but there is a lot to learn on youtube

Wait a month or so, the merge should sort that out :)

Maybe that will help them build 2.5 faster!

Anyone tried the DCS Spitfire Epsom campaign?

I'm curious but having to get 4 separate items just to play the campaign is a bit appalling:

  1. Normandy map
  2. WWII asset pack
  3. Spitfire plane
  4. Campaign

The asset pack is not listed as a requirement in the Steam page for the campaign but I can't imagine playing the campaign without them. Is it an omission?

Yes. The Asset Pack is necessary to play Epsom. Beware: Atm there is a crashing bug in 2.2 regarding flak line of sight calculations. As Epsom has lots of flak, like Charnwood, it crashes a lot.

Veltro, support for the Mirage has been good years after release, and they're a very established developer outside DCS. I think it's safe to say they're good to go :)

The only 3rd party I worry about in terms of support is VEAO. Things haven't been good on their end and they have one released module needing a fix with another in perpetual development waiting to be finished over a year after offering it on pre-order.

RAZBAM, BST, HeatBlur and M3 (formerly LNS) all do good work and properly support their stuff after release. The Mirage is an absolute blast and feels very complete to me. I'm sure there are things people can find to nitpick about, but it really does feel complete to me. The Harrier is definitely early access, but what's there works well and is a lot of fun.

Got the mirage on the Xmas sale, it will be fun eapecially with the new stick that should arrive soon.

I like the looks a lot and seems relatively simple to operate.

A classic for sure.

It might take me a while, its a fresh start for me since i never really tried hard enough in DCS.

The whole startup procedure already puts me in a rotten mood :)

I do love the jets once they are airborne though.

I hated the start up at first, but I'm really starting to appreciate it.

Mind you, I still keep it simple and haven't progressed into the post 1950s stuff, yet.

Then "RWIN+Home " and afterburner ON. ;)

I'm stopping until a) I feel competent enough in all modules I own (F-5, Mirage, MiG-21, FC3) or b) the A-29, F-4 or Mi-24 are released. Maybe I can find some room for the L-39 before that, I love a good advanced trainer.

By the way, there was a video on YouTube showing the L-39 with the same lack of ground collision damage model problem as the MiG-21 after the last patch. Curious stuff.

Hi guys

There is good news on the DCS Homepage:

Loads of new modules for 2018, I´m absolutely blown away by the sheer number of new planes, that will be available... based on what they delivered in 2017...hmm  ;)

Cheers!

Several of them are already near completion.

I update DCS today after few months without playing. I couldn’t find any server online. That can’t be right. Anyone experiencing the same?

Currently 3 versions of the game:

1.5.8 stable

1.5.8 beta

2.2 alpha

Most players are in the 1.5.8 beta.

They are merging all three together by the end of January 2018 (remains to be seen).

*Edit: if you mean that you don't see any servers at all, just try restarting your computer.  That fixed it for me.

This sounds great and I´m really looking forward to the F-14 and -18... only the waiting is the hardest part...

Cheers!

I think that was meant as a list of what's actively being worked on. I don't think there is any chance of even half of that being released in 2018. Throw us the great 2.5 merge, the Hornet and the Hind and I'll be pretty happy with it overall. Vulkan would be amazing, but I don't think that's coming anytime next year, or the following year, or the year after...

I have it and I like it a lot. Couldn‘t spend too much time on it yet, but it is surprisingly straight forward systems whise. And it flys great.

A friend of mine flew the MirageIIIS for years, saying it was the best aircraft he ever flew. (And he flew plenty other types.) Looking at the 2000 that has everything of the III plus more, I know what he means.

Normally I would deeply and hartfully reccomend you to dl Caucasus map and buy the Oilfield campaign, but latest patch might have rendered it useless, I have not yet tried it after the patch. But standard campaign witch is good too , is corrupt due to AI stopping engine when landing during missions where they suppose to take off again. The MI 8 is the best chopper of them all, I regard the rest as fun brakes inbetween

For me mi8 is the best DCS module. It is fun and a pleasure to fly even without any pvp/pve. But needs a good throttle because it is a helicopter. My next auto buy is a mi24 from the same developer.

Is it worth getting the Normandy map and spit in the sale?

The spit has a wonderful FM and is very nice to land. DCS spit landings feel like real. However outside of taking it for a takeoff-landing there is not much to do in DCS. DCS has no gameplay. So maybe its not worth it really.

There is a nice and heavily detailed campaign available for the Spit on the Normandy Map- Operation Epsom - however it is a campaign that would require being purchased.

It's happened to a few people, dB. ED are aware of the problem and working on it, but right now I think a DNS cache flush remedies the problem.

Once in a while I consider giving the P-51 another go in DCS, but then I visit this thread and immediately get discouraged. Just getting the sim to run properly sounds like it’s every bit as much of a pain as it was when I last installed it.

What’s wrong with having just one official version of the sim and a launcher that automatically updates to the latest version with no hassle?

It's coming in January.

I myself have not really had any troubles getting any of the current versions to run properly, guess I have been lucky in that regard.

I should delete the cache?

It’s not just getting things to run, it’s having to install and activate the different modules, and then optimizing performance for each module... it just seems daunting.

It seems like there is also a corsair in the work.. man the module release and make selection of DCS is always soo wild. But I still feel tempted to go for that christian eagle II

I'll be happy to fly my Mi-8 over the updated Caucasus whenever that gets released. I guess for Nevada I'll have to get the F-5 in a Thunderbirds scheme since there is no F-16.

Admittedly, proper configuration certainly isn't trivial.

A few modules acquired during the current sale encouraged me to try DCS again. Graphics settings in 2.2 took a few hours because certain defaults mysteriously caused huge performance losses.

Now that I'm happy with the performance on my system, I can finally move on to controls. I do think it has been worth the effort.

Personally I have no problem with it, but I would have prefered a Avenger myself.

It feels more like a game with incompatible mods, rather than a cohesive product. I ended up uninstalling too.

Well it do update by itself sort of, The reason for people spending time with DCS is simply the fact that other CFS just do not cut it for them. If BOS was the ony CFS out there, and that goes for DCS too, I probably abandoned CFS all together. All the years with Modded old IL 2 gave me one lesson, people go through with a lot of hassle for their hobby

So many people here are complaining about DCS but still they keep on posting .. I don´t get it.

Why don´t you just forget about it and don´t bother any longer - wouldn´t that be that much easier?

Yes, DCS has a its problems but still it can be very entertaining and fun.
