216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Not sure about every location across the coast but a friend always used to complain that Sochi and its surroundings had nothing on Crimea because the beaches were rocky and hard on the feet, while in Crimea they were nice sand beaches.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Are they adding haze as IL2 is removing it?
bzc3lk Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) Where’s the shoreline? Is there no sand in the Caucasus? There is sand (the big grain variety) in the Caucasus according to Google maps, but not in the DCS world from the look of these game shots. Pictures below show the same location clearly showing that the shoreline (stony beaches) are missing from the DCS offering, which in my opinion clearly sets them below the Il2 standard from altitude. Danziger Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Maybe ED took their screenshots at high tide? 1
Uufflakke Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Maybe ED took their screenshots at high tide? There are no tides in the Black Sea. 1
Blutaar Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Are they adding haze as IL2 is removing it? I thought the same haha.
Blooddawn1942 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Not sure what to think about this... Well... Could be fun. At least 30 buks isn't too expensive.

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 That's what they've been doing instead of fixing the MiG-21bis? Not instead but along. And along developing F4U. MiG-21 is receiving and will be receiving patches and fixes.
Danziger Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Not instead but along. And along developing F4U. MiG-21 is receiving and will be receiving patches and fixes. This is good news.
Gambit21 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Not instead but along. And along developing F4U. MiG-21 is receiving and will be receiving patches and fixes. F4-U over the Caucasus...wooohoo!!
Danziger Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 F4-U over the Caucasus...wooohoo!! You can always fly it over Normandy. Or Nevada.
Gambit21 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 You can always fly it over Normandy. Or Nevada. True enough... 1
WWGriphos Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I'll buy an Eagle II for DCS. No hesitation.
Blooddawn1942 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I will buy the Eagle probably too. 29€ isn't too expensive. Should be good fun. I really like to perform some unarmed aerobatics with the TF-51. I own every DCS module. So I'm not restricted to the free TF-51. I just like it.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 True enough... And Strait of Hormuz or whatever that thing is called, once it will get released. It's DCS after all. Besides, considering PTO is delayed here for quite a long time I'm fine with flying Corsair elsewhere.

Danziger Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Or get all of the warbirds together over Nevada with an Iron Eagle III-worthy campaign lol.
Gambit21 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Or get all of the warbirds together over Nevada with an Iron Eagle III-worthy campaign lol. LOL - that's it right there.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 The reaction to the Super Eagle is pretty disappointing. Very childish reactions all around, some people like having their heads buried into MFDs more than actually flying by the looks of it. It'll be a cheap fun module, I used to love precision aerobatics in Lock On but the lack of proper aircraft for it was always a bummer (remember those mods that changed the A-10 3D model to an Alpha Jet and so on?). Looking forward to it
Sokol1 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 You can always fly it over Normandy. Or Nevada. This is the main problem of DCSW, their maps should not be a given region/era, but just ... Fantasy Island in Bermuda Triangle, where's all kind of planes end due "warps" in time - or maybe Aliens.

Looking forward to it I think the reactions are more about how they spent a week hyping up the community (like Viggen and F14 style hype) only to release a small simple civil aerobatic biplane. I'm not saying it isn't a cool plane. I think the teasing with no real discernable hints of what was coming set it up for failure. Everyone was expecting announcement of some new jet fighter module or a Corsair.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Reactions are really blown out of proportion. Yes, it was a week of hints after some decent time of silence. But a week of preparing is not comparable to how long other modules are promoted (and delayed). Corsair vs Mig 15 over Nevada? Nah, F4U-1d is a quite capable flying platform. It can engage 190 for sure and in terms of variety of ordnance it can carry ... its actually better than P-51 and Spitfire combined. I still want to see where DCS goes, particularly with merged 2.5 version.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 The Marines did use the Corsair in Korea so, at least in theory, it'll have some flexibility whenever it's out.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I believe it was F4U-4, but you are right Lucas.
MiloMorai Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 The versions of the Corsair used in Korea from 1950 to 1953 were the AU-1, F4U-4B, -4P and -5N and 5-NL.
LuftManu Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) I am still shocked about the announcement yesterday. I wish LN the best of luck but in my opinion that plane has no room in DCS.. (Well, watching the planelist even a balloon would make sense) I think another model of the Mig21 would have been cheap too and nobody would complain. Edited December 9, 2017 by LF_ManuV
Lusekofte Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I buy the eagle, and the Corsair , and probably not fly it. But I support any simulator I use. Some day a module of interest will come, like the Hind . When I fly randomly I just do it to relax, so acrobatics do not suit me, if I at some point do not cave in and buy a set of VR goggles
Blooddawn1942 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I wish that we will really see the Water with those whitecaps. As it is now, the water in Normandy and Nevada looks terrible. Even with stormy conditions on highest settings. Does anyone noticed, that with the recent update the water in 2.2 looks absolutely fantastic? I keep flying above the shores of Normandy for hours today beholding the beautiful water. 2

And clouds, too... sometimes it rains or snows underneath them. The lighting in general gives a rich and beautiful result, and it appears very natural, I think. Edited December 9, 2017 by Picchio
Tuesday Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 The thunder & lightning is very well done, in my opinion. Definitely a "woah" moment while starting up on the ramp with the canopy open!

My biggest worries were with the looks of the water we had until now. This is a whole new experience.

Jade_Monkey Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I feel like they trolled their fans pretty hard. They were releasing hints of the next plane, and all Reddit was speculating what fighter it would be (Super sabre!!!). They came up with... that? Digital COMBAT Simulator. 2
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Those who were around back when ED first opened up the idea of 3rd party developers might remember that one of the most desired things was general aviation aircraft of all kinds. Aerobatics, airliners, cargo, utility, you name it. It makes the environment richer to have those around, even if you won't fly it. Considering how popular aerobatics and airshows are it makes complete sense to release the Super Eagle. The hints were fine themselves, people saw what they wanted to see and that's their own fault. They were very clear that it was a SURPRISE (combat aircraft = obvious) and that it was a Super BIRD (Super Sabre =/= Super Bird, Super Eagle = Super Bird). It was a fun chase, much more exciting than "hello we develop new module it is called this, bye bye for the next 6 months". Also considering that it was almost ready as a proof of concept for their F4U I don't see why not release it for the public, specially at such a low price.

I must admit I was staring hard at all the parked MiGs in the video trying to spot the new variant hidden amongst them.
Monostripezebra Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I kind of like the idea.. I mean an Eagle II doesn´t have much systems (which I clearly find the strong side of DCS) and there won´t be much systems modeling, but a neat FM and details might be nice.. I am having fun with the civi side and I guess I would happily look into that biplane. Anything to spice up the party! 1
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Reality is that statement made it clear in March that company will pursue F4U Corsair and before there will be a smaller project released. Nobody said anything about advanced jet aircraft. Look for how long Tomcat or Hornet are in development. Hoggit has to blame itself really, if they expected something not possible in a matter of half a year. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Hoggit is such a fun place on a good day, and a complete embarrassment at times like these. Very weird place.
