That it is. A common occurrence involves me thinking the MiG-21 is an F-5 in every single way, and that they like me are only using puny heatseeking missiles. You can imagine the nasty surprises I get when going for a head-on merge!

All jokes aside, I'm surely picking the 21 up once I feel fully comfortable with the Tiger. For now I'm going with baby steps to avoid being overwhelmed by the complexity. First learning the ropes of the F-5, then playing through the missions and campaigns available for Caucasus to get a proper feel of it, then some online action, then Nevada and all the campaigns that come with it, and only then another module. The Su-33 sort of doesn't count since I've played every iteration of it from Flanker 2 so I'm at home there.

I also insta-loved the F-5, it´s so simpel and yet so employable and feel good. But murph is right.. you do want the Mig21 to go with it. And you will love it too, albeit less intuitivly.

The 21 is awesome. I'm flying her with the original yugoslavian Mig 21bis manual. it's ponit on. much better than the DCS manual. i'm considering buying Flaming cliffs 3 but I'm not sure if it's that good since it seems to be simplified. Any suggestions?

after that messing around with the gazelle, I got a really weird bug and now I can´t log in again. Anyone got any ideas?

It happened after I played and quit the game, then I came back, restarted the game and now clicking the log on button or pressing enter after entering password does nothing. Turning the computer off and on does nothing, de-installing and re-installing does not work, I made sure I got the right log on credentials (and they still work on the webpage), I haven´t installed or de-installed anything in the time between it worked and it did not work and it also affects my non-steam 1.5 install (which I previously had not touched for a long time. So I guess something with the security is broken.

Anyone got any help?

Have you tried the repair command option as outlined in the link below?

Flaming Cliffs is what Il-2 would be if it was set in 1990, the systems depth is the same. To put it simply, you get all the functionality and quirks of the aircraft except some functions are mapped to one button instead of six. What you'll notice the most is during the start-up procedure, beyond that it's more or less the same.

The MiG-29 is still lacking the PFM as far as I recall, but it will get it eventually. The other aircraft are really fun, particularly the Su-25.

Thanks. I learned a lot now playing with the updater.. but unfortunately it doesn´t resolve the issue. Oddly enough.. using the updater to repair as well as to revert the non steam install to the Latest stable version is 1.5.7.10872.388 has in both cases the same effect as de-installing and re-installing the steam version:

In both installs even completely cleanded and re-installed the 1.5.7.10872.388 version does not start up but stops at 57% loading bar and then goes inactive. i think that may be related to the that login bug. Weird.

Do you have any antivirus program that you would have accidentally clicked on to block any new connection instead of allow during a popup screen?

Definately made sure I can rule that one out, because yes, it does indeed look like a connectivity problem for one program only.. but I can rule that out as well as general connectivity problems.

Been waiting for this plane since it was announced, and as soon as it goes on sale I lose my debit card (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

If you lost a debit card you best be calling and getting that puppy canceled and a new replacement!

Can’t help myself, pre-purchased!!

Just Pre-Ordered the Harrier. I probably looked forward to this one more than the F-14 or F/A-18. Though I'll still get those. The F4 Phantom and Mi-24 are the next things on my radar.

finally managed to track that bug that  made it impossible to log on into DCS with the help of BigNewy.. Seems like the Gazelle can under some rare circumstances cause a bug that screws something in the saved game folder that remains under /users/saved games/DCS. Making a new folder there gets rid of the log in bug.

WIP of a new effect:

A well-known visual characteristic of the Hornet has always been the vaps down the length of the Leading Edge Extension (LEX) during hard maneuvering. As has been eluded to earlier, we’ve been working on a new effect to properly implement this in DCS World. Rather than a simple shape file, we’ve used a partical-based system to allow the vaps to be very dynamic and variable based on aircraft maneuvering and the humidity. Not only are vaps based on the AoA of the aircraft, the humidity level is also a huge factor. In addition this effect working along the LEX, it is also being used for over the wings when appropriate.

Attached is an early work in progress image of this effect.

In addition to the Hornet, we plan to apply this effect to other aircraft, and this tech has been passed to our 3rd parties to use for their aircraft.

There are some interesting choppers in the works, until then I settle with the Harrier, I am not sure if I am going to buy the Harrier. I am very fond of the A 10 C , but I have not time flying it. So I think it will be a waist of money for my sake, But most modules in DCS except the choppers have been just that, waist of money. I do not fly them

ok...I tried to play DCS World, but I think that's not my type of game. I really love Il2 and Flight Simulator. I think DCS is just too complicated with all the type of bombs and missiles. Also the Su25 is not very a good plane and all is in Russian inside... Very hard for me to understand what is what. I tried the tutorial and everything is fine, but when starting the campaign, I don't know what are the missiles I have and don't understand why I don't have the anti-radar/SAM option ("I" button).

I think piloting a real Boeing is less complicated than flying in DCS World or a real fighter jet.

Really want to love this game, but not for me.

To use anti radiation missiles you need to have Fantasmagora ELINT pod under your belly. Then just press I button and you'll see the radar symbols in your hud, then just lock and wait for launch authorization and launch your Kh-58 or Kh-25MP anti radiation missile. Here is one good guide to Su-25T i just googled https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=335149944 and you'll find plenty of guides for other modules too. DCS modules can be hard but its very rewarding to learn to use them.

RIP DCS WWII

IKR poor guys just got taken out back and shot in the recent announcement. However it might be the kick they need to do something with it (hopefully same goes for WT too).

Well, You're right with the sudden death of DCS WWWII we witnessed just this day. But it's certainly not a very good style to rant against a competitors product. I like DCS very much, albeit their forum is maybe the most unfriendly place on earth.

Posted

I like DCS. I just wish they would've let DCS WW2 die when it failed originally. They are great at jets and helicopters. They could've had a lot more done if not for all the dabbling in WW2.

All AI though, not exactly exciting. I have all the DCS WW2 content, backed it during the kickstarter, but it has been a bit of a disappointment to me really.

Not the modules. They're quite brilliant. But the whole package in terms of WWII is disappointing, that's right.

As I said above, I'm really into DCS and own every single module. They give me a blast every time. But the pace of development is annoying slow.

Why should DCS WWII be dead? So far they only released four aircraft, rest is beta. Those aircraft are very well done and it is nice flying them.

Personally I welcome a bit of competition and do support any one who makes good effort.

It is a huge task making a good game out of such complex parts. Nice having different approaches on it.

I think it was in reference to Boden, which will be running circles around the DCS's open-ended muddle in a pretty short time.

I guess the planes are different enough in the way they are made for the sim, that DCS and IL-2/BoBP are not 100% competing. They are different in pricing and they are different in systems modelling.

Different approach, different products.

Yep.

Feathered hit it. That´s what I meant with the suddden death of DCS WWII.

Of course it ain´t dead and I will support it further,  but the WWII part of DCS became far less interesting with yesterdays epic  announcement.

DCS is its own worst enemy if you look at it from the perspective as „combat simulator“ rather than as „plane and systems simulator“. DCS is living proof why in IL2, there is reduced systems modelling. It is just not viable if you have to do everything per plane, plus delivering a viable planeset in time.

DCS is just arbitary producing plane after plane and we are on our own on what to do with them. And they can do so, as the main overhead is financed with a different product. So far, it is FSX plus guns minus a whole world to fly on. I don‘t see a product doing it all for the next 2 decades, as Prepar3d is not entering the entertainment market.

IL2 is great fun, but it is far from a complete flight sim and the busines model precludes it from beeing so. Thus, DCS, IL2 and FSX(or alike) can still exist side by side.

ED could have built a real P47 from scratch in the time its taking them thus far to simulate one. There will be very little sales for their module once its released, in beta, because the BoBP one will have been out for at least a year. DCS have been blown out of the water. They, ED, will find it very hard to justify continuing a WW2 theme in the wake of yesterdays announcement. Those looking for an expanding DCS WW2 universe are going to be even more frustrated. Its over! The ED moderators know this. They're pushing the "theres room for both" line. We all remember one moderators melt down on these very forums. He's changed his tune in desperation. DCS WW2 has just got owned.

DSC WW2 was DOA. That sim is for jets. I sadly supported the kickstarter

I guess I can see the value in learning the detailed flight procedure if you are really into that sort of thing
