Pretty sweet.  The fact that it's made by Razbam worries me a bit.

TBF to them, Ed rushed the harrier a bit out of them so they had to focus on that instead of the M-2000C, so hopefully both are produced up to full working order

My familiarity with them is from FSX.  I don't think they've ever completed any project and fixed the bugs of something they've released.

As far as I'm aware, there haven't been any missing features or major bugs in the Mirage 2000 for over a year.

Again, I’m speaking only from experience in FSX, not DCS, so that is good to hear.

Iown all the WW2 modules and Normandy , but I have not flown any of them more than once, I think I not yet even configured controls on the 109 . I am all in for the choppers. No game simulate choppers better than DCS.

Very true, I picked up the Huey in a sale last summer and after two weeks had to have the others.

The flight dynamics of helicopters are one of DCS's strong points.

I was going to get the Spitfire on release but I was in the process of moving house at the time and held off. Never did get it in the end and after seeing what WWII is like in DCS I don't regret that decision, despite being a big Spitfire fan in general.

I understand that there were other factors going on as to why ED ended up making a Normandy theatre, but they really should have stuck to jets and helos and left WWII to CloD and BoX.

I love Huey but there is something seriously wrong with Gazelles FM. I dont think you should be able to do this. I hope Polyhcop will fix it.

But Polychop swears up and down the Gazelle FM is near perfect and has been verified as such by real Gazelle pilots!   :P

Seriously though, I agree. I love choppers in DCS but haven't reinstalled the Gazelle since building my Ryzen system last June. The FM is just too awful.

No, I don't think you should be able to do that!!!

The Gazelle FM is ridiculous and I fly Eurocopter/Airbus products regularly. EC120's are a little twitchy but the Gazelle puts real world R22's to shame for having to stay ahead of the aircraft.

Posted

No way in the world a gazelle can do that, lol!

I've been in a gazelle many times whilst in the army, had joyrides where I asked the pilot to throw it around the sky and nothing like that was in his bag of tricks for putting the wind up a couple of gobby para's...

One of the guys in my regiment transferred to the Army Air Corp and was quizzed about the loop and inverted roll on a regimental mess dinner... he was pretty adamant that it was the Lynx that could do it but not a gazelle.

I returned the gazelle right away, but LOVE the Huey. Favorite DCS product so far.

I keep hearing good things about the Huey.

Huey is extremely well done. Haven't piloted a real one yet but I've crewed on them. Seems plausible with some slight control coordination discrepancies in the hover.

I've used the autumn sale to finally get the huey after everyone has been praising it, along with the Nevada map! Can't wait for it to finish downloading!!

The 1,5 does not have the new FM only 2.0 got the new Gazelle FM yet. Not tried it yet, since I am busy with other stuff in DCS . But people say the new FM is good

Good to hear that they have fixed it. I shall wait for 2.5 to try it out. And great to hear the new damage model is coming soon as well. Finally bought Argo campaing for Huey from Autumn sale for only $4,99.

Is there a way to install the Nevada map from the DCS site onto a Steam DCS install?

Steam doesn't have the sale and the DCS site lists their map as Steam incompatible.

He is wrong. Kinda. The gazelle was the first helicopter capable of doing a loop but the Lynx can do it much more easily.  A friend who flew gazelles for the Royal Marines confirms they did it but it was frowned upon.   One of the Red Bull pilots does many loops & rolls (in a Bo-105) and I have seen footage of him performing a loop without spilling any water from a glass placed in front of him.

Been fiddling with the F-5E this week. Lovely aircraft, just about idiot proof (though bombing is tricky) and not without its quirks.

The lack of content for it is a problem though, since except a single campaign the rest is all for Nevada.

Fellas, I've got a simple questions for those of you who own Normandy... in the various videos/images I've seen, I observed a particularly inconsistent quality in cockpit shadows.

To be more precise, they look like they're very low-resolution, with aliasing all over the place. I also tried my own and old DCS (latest release version, not Open Alpha), and even at the highest settings, cockpit shadows do look aliased. Still, I remember seeing smooth and beautiful looking shadows, from a number other users.

In short: what's the state of the current in-cockpit shadowing, in the Open Alpha? Does it look better, with the new deferred shading? Could someone provide their own screenshots taken at highest settings in the Open Alpha?

Thanks!

There is more than enough content for the F5 from the community.

Do you have any recommendations I might have missed, banzaii? So far I've only found a few single missions and one French campaign for the Caucasus. Everything else is for NTTR as far as I can see.

There is a cold war multiplayer server too.  F-5 vs Mig21, it's great fun.

The rotor head on the RedBull AC is not standard and is proprietary. The pilot doesn't even want to talk about it when asked about anything technical regarding it.

Yeah, but I guess that is more about  other aerobatic stuff like prolonged inverted fligth stuff.. the early stock bo-105s with their rigid rotor head where all loopable.

meanwhile, the Gazelles rotorhead keeps me puzzled in DCS

How else do you think rotor blades are produced?

Does anyone use any mods for this?

I have the Huey and have the Nevada map but am looking to get some mods for the 1.5 version but so far haven't had any success.

Is it possible?

Thanks

I havent touched DCS in a long time, but the Argo campaign coming to Steam might make me hop on the Huey this weekend!

I already practised landing on ships before, it's pretty fun although tricky.

Argo is a really well made and entertaining campaign. I can highly recommend it! :)

Speaking of landing on ships... I dug out the Su-33 and have been messing around with carrier landings and takeoffs with it's new flight model.

Pretty good fun... that'll keep me going until we get to Midway with BoX.

I'll need to do the Flanker training as a refresher course, although it seems that the Su-27 and Su-33 are basically identical in terms of how to operate them.

after that messing around with the gazelle, I got a really weird bug and now I can´t log in again. Anyone got any ideas?

It happened after I played and quit the game, then I came back, restarted the game and now clicking the log on button or pressing enter after entering password does nothing. Turning the computer off and on does nothing, de-installing and re-installing does not work, I made sure I got the right log on credentials (and they still work on the webpage), I haven´t installed or de-installed anything in the time between it worked and it did not work and it also affects my non-steam 1.5 install (which I previously had not touched for a long time. So I guess something with the security is broken.

Anyone got any help?

A little update on my DCS adventure: the F-5E has truly ruined my experience. I don't think I will ever buy another DCS module again.

I have already learned the start-up sequence after only about three tries. The radar is easier to operate than a M-105 engine. Handling is extremely intuitive (tip for those who have it: when performing scissors don't give aileron input, go stick to the belly and use rudders instead). Ground attack was initially tricky, but becomes second nature after a few runs. Air-to-air efficiency is more than adequate against most adversaries provided the proper tactics are employed. The weapons array available covers most situations, and PGM delivery is possible provided someone can tag the target for you. So what does this means?

With the DCS sale ongoing, some modules I had been interested in for a while became much more accessible. I looked at the AJS-37, and while it was cool it didn't have the dashing feeling of the F-5E when going air-to-air. The Mirage 2000C appeared interesting, but all that modern mumbo jumbo lacked the primitive perfection that makes the F-5E so approachable. The A-10C? Same problem as the M2000, plus its looks don't get close to the F-5E. The MiG-21 is a Soviet F-5, but I already have the F-5E! The only aircraft that is still under consideration is the Su-33, but if I figure out how to land and take-off from a carrier with the F-5E then it'll go into the NO pile as well.

Back to the main point, the F-5E ruined DCS for me. I am in love with it now and no other jet-powered aircraft comes close. Highly recommended for anyone who likes fighters that look how fighters should look!

But the Mig-21 is so gloriously claustrophobic and a great peer/adversary to the F-5.
