nirvi Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Some mountain textures in 2.5... https://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=169869&d=1506468137 1
ZachariasX Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Still waiting for a world geodetic system to run those “VFR maps“ on plus multithread use. It does look nice however!
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 An improvement but DCS has always had rather naff scenery compared to any other popular sims. When I first flew in it I could not believe those stupid triangular smoke plumes, literally. I was thinking 'What are those things? They cannot be smoke plumes. They look like something from an arcade game.' That scenery is still the official release build! This new one still looks quite primitive in places. The trees and grass & hills etc are better but as someone mentioned earlier, the runway looks wrong; like a big piece of laminate floating an inch above the grass.
CanadaOne Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 its wrong with depth varies the amount of shade and colour tonality, 3d engines still have a long way to go You made me think of that adage about the video game player who went outside one day and remarked, "The graphics were outstanding, but the story sucked." That's not a shot at you, my friend. You just made me think of it. 1
Jade_Monkey Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 When I looked on my phone the airfield didn't look so bad, but on my computer it does look more out of place. Still a pretty good improvement overall. I haven't touched DCS in a long time though, I wish they got their versions together and give Steam users the same level of access through the beta channel. 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 They look nice...though it is obvious they stop rendering shadows at mid distance. In the last picture there is a line of trees on the right where only one tree has a shadow :-) Maybe BoX does that as well but I have never noticed. Any pics with chimney smoke in them?
Finkeren Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 We can always nitpick, but the improvement cannot be denied, and overall it looks like a nice map. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 It looks gorgeous. I've been flying that map since the days of Flanker 2.5 and by all means they've come a long, long way. Now it looks like the beautiful Black Sea coastline, not that radioactive green mush from before.
kestrel79 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Can't wait to fly some jets again looks good. Just waiting for the merger of versions. 1
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Yawn. Sometime in 2020 then? Maybe. Or next week. Who knows. ED is very silent when it comes to release dates.
Silver_Dragon Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 DCS World Week Update 01 Oct 2017 (English version)
DetCord12B Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Yawn. Sometime in 2020 then? LOL! That's pretty accurate. They released a bunch of assets and a map and as always expect the community to pick up the slack, to do their work for them with regards to campaigns and missions. Given their time-frames and releases and street dates, that sounds about spot on. Hell, we're still waiting on multi-crew for a vast majority of addons that were released years and years ago and the accurate damage model for WWII era aircraft promised two+ years ago as well. As they say though... While I prefer the DCS theater and all, I'll stick with IL-2 when it comes to WWII aviation.
9./JG27DefaultFace Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Well Normandy looked great in screenshots too and when it came out it looked horrendous. Looks slightly better now but still not really great. And performance wise it's barely playable if that.
CisTer-dB- Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Well Normandy looked great in screenshots too and when it came out it looked horrendous. Looks slightly better now but still not really great. And performance wise it's barely playable if that. Yep 3 updates since release and full of shutters still 1
Finkeren Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I swear this is more of a bash DCS thread lol Some are trying to keep a positive attitude, but at least for the WW2 stuff there's just not much to get excited about in DCS at the moment.
BeastyBaiter Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Yep, really no point in talking about DCS: WW2, it's DOA. The new explosion effects are an improvement. Not sure I like them, but they are better than the current ones. I have to wonder what the two nukes look like with the new effects. I'm guessing bad, just like the current effect (or lack thereof). Admittedly that's a very niche thing, but they are there to use.
Lusekofte Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Yep 3 updates since release and full of shutters still Well I have a old PC and I can fly my MI 8 low over populated areas smoother than COD . My settings are in medium to high
SeaW0lf Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Yep, really no point in talking about DCS: WW2, it's DOA. The sim market in general seems to go ahead with the development in spite of critical features that are left out unfinished or poorly done -- the infamous analogy of the house of cards. It is a vicious circle that ends up going nowhere for no one. And the sim market does not have the profile of the mainstream market. People expect to play and support the brand for years, the case of DCS, ROF, Il-2 1946. They get really attached to it. Hence why I think people get so vocal about it. I also saw some performance improvement on the Normandy map.
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I hope they get the splash damage right this time. I mean its pretty frustrating when you drop 2000 pound JDAM on target and enemy infantry units standing 100m away are like nothing ever happened. But at least visually the new bombs and rockets look great.
CisTer-dB- Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) Well I have a old PC and I can fly my MI 8 low over populated areas smoother than COD . My settings are in medium to high Mine is not that old and I have a GTX1080 everything are fine on max/ultra but the Normandy map, even when it's reduced to low/medium Anyhow people are posting about the problem on their forum, they will deal with the issue eventually Edited October 3, 2017 by ATAG_dB
Solty Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 They look great, but I what I want the most are improved hit effects for .50cqls and DM of course.
Monostripezebra Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) Some are trying to keep a positive attitude, but at least for the WW2 stuff there's just not much to get excited about in DCS at the moment. DCS is it´s very own kind of animal.. but it does somethings right. For online multiplayer combat in WW2 it isn´t really a good choice right now.. but it has other things it does really good. At the moment I am having quite a bit of fun with the Gazelle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVKWpaWzXF0 Edited October 3, 2017 by Monostripezebra
kestrel79 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Wow those joysticks look good. Are the guys doing the F-14 the same people who did the Mig-21? Those are some finely detailed cockpits there.
Jade_Monkey Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Why is it that the renders always look better than the in-game regardless of how high you crank it up?
BeastyBaiter Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Cause 3dmax allows you to display things at detail levels that take 20 minutes to render a single frame with a 1080 TI.
56RAF_Roblex Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Am I the only one who sees these explosions and thinks they based them on Hollywood? They look like the gasoline pyros they use in films and airshows that bear very little resemblance to bomb explosions. 2
Lusekofte Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Iown all the WW2 modules and Normandy , but I have not flown any of them more than once, I think I not yet even configured controls on the 109 . I am all in for the choppers. No game simulate choppers better than DCS.
Gambit21 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Why is it that the renders always look better than the in-game regardless of how high you crank it up? Using 3D app renders is always a bit misleading and I wish they wouldn't do it. Our guys here do it right.... simple renders in Max (A-20 cockpit was just with ambient occlusion turned on) and leave the textured renders to the in-game engine. Bad practice otherwise IMHO for obvious reasons. 2
Silver_Dragon Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) Normally that ED and 3rd party renders has build on 3DS Max render engine, has normally a better texture, effects and more better with any simulator 3D engine. previously to use them by EDM plugins to export on DCS World. Some pics can be extracted to DCS World Modelviewer. DCS World Week Update 08 Oct 2017 (English version) Edited October 8, 2017 by Silver_Dragon 1

Gambit21 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I had to read that a few times...I think he's just reiterating the point.

WWGriphos Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Pretty sweet. The fact that it's made by Razbam worries me a bit.
