BeastyBaiter Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 The F-5E is my favorite fixed wing aircraft in DCS and the MiG-21 is a close second. They go well together and many hours of fun can be had with them. Both are quick and easy to understand, but take time to truly master. And the MiG is very nimble, once you learn to fly it properly. 2

Lusekofte Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 (edited) Too me it looks like the description , if you are familiar with GPS it is intuitive operation using it, only some neat functions needed to be learned . Personably this is why I fly DCS, some learning curve and nit pitting flying offline taking ones time, no whiners around. Just you and the sim Edited September 10, 2017 by 216th_LuseKofte 3

Jade_Monkey Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 ... Nice comparisons, the improvements are astounding.
BeastyBaiter Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 My main hope is they get the performance up. Much of the old map runs like absolute garbage on modern high end PC's. 2
Lusekofte Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Well it turns out Gqarmin have a Youtube video on how to operate this GPS unit So why read when you can get it in video My main hope is they get the performance up. Much of the old map runs like absolute garbage on modern high end PC's. DCS run great on my old, this is why I do not buy a new one
BeastyBaiter Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 It does not run great for you. There isn't a CPU on the planet fast enough in single thread to run 60 fps all the time in even an empty mission in DCS at max detail.
Daff Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 there's a Garmin trainer simulation program out there for free too on garmin's website just google garmin 430 simulation
9./JG27golani79 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Really looking forward to the new damage model for the AI - I just hope it wont take too long .. Got shot down in the end and he was just doing fine xD 1

There isn't a CPU on the planet fast enough in single thread to run 60 fps all the time in even an empty mission in DCS at max detail. I do not run anything in max, I have prioritised simulator hardware at the expense for a new PC. So far I gotten away with it. I am perfectly satisfied to get it in adequate settings. This goes for BOS too. I have absolutely no reason to complain when a 8 year old RIG still do the work 1
Urra Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Really looking forward to the new damage model for the AI - I just hope it wont take too long .. Got shot down in the end and he was just doing fine xD Same here.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 You can gift modules, just have to do that via support. There is a special window for that now. That's how I got Normandy for a friend. And MiG-21 is no longer causing login issues. Its authentication system was changed, you may have trouble first time connecting or have to contact support, but after that its all good. I've fixed mine 2 months ago and since then never was I asked to activate it again.
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I have uninstalled DCS because of the activation system. I have had a lot of problems with my PC lately so crashes has made it impossible to deactivate (and number of deactivations are limited as well) so activations are almost gone. Very archaic system to say the least. I really hope they do away with it, have decided not to buy anything more because of it.
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 GPS drama asides, would you DCS folk recommend the F-5 or the MiG-21 to get started? I have a squadmate that used to fly F-5s for a living and he mentioned a few days ago that despite being more modern, the F-5 cannot compete against a Mig-21! So in terms of combat maybe you should get the Mig-21.

So in terms of combat maybe you should get the Mig-21. He's doing something wrong then The F-5 and Mig-21 are pretty balanced. I prefer the F-5 due to the western cockpit. Just too much switches in the Mig-21 cockpit for me.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Rolex, your friend is doing something wrong then because I know F-5 pilots who have taken M2000s and F-16s to the ground in exercises
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 My main hope is they get the performance up. Much of the old map runs like absolute garbage on modern high end PC's. I dont know what they have done with recent patches but i was flying with my friend first time in a long time and the fps was HORRIBLE. Had to lower my graphics a lot and especially turning off mirrors helped a lot...Game looked like crap after that but fps was ok. IL-2 BoX works well with highest settings with decent fps and of course looks 10 times better. I hope the DCS 2.5 is better optimized.

Lusekofte Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Well I was lucky enough to see it in action during winter manouver in Norway a long time ago, it hide behind a mountain and popped up for ordonance delivery . Quite impressive. In my mind it nust be a very difficult plane to handle. And it became a plane of interest. Also it got quite a service making it worth while to read up on. I will buy it, just to learn how to handle it
Thad Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) Salutations, I was a air traffic control tower supervisor when the 'first' Harriers were being presented to the U.S.M.C by the Brits at Bogue Field N.C. Many, many years ago. It was impressive and it is a ideal craft for the Marines with our usual mission requirements. I'm still fond of it. Edited September 18, 2017 by Thad
Silver_Dragon Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 DCS World Week Update 24 Sep 2017 (English version)
Danziger Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 F@ck me. That Su-33 video really showcases the fact that DCS kicks ass at jets. They really should've just let DCS WW2 die with the departure of what's his name and focused everything on on the grand unified 2.5 version. I really can't wait for 2.5 to finally come out so I can get in on some DCS jet action. Just too bad the "sounds are not genuine".
Monostripezebra Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 the system details are really amazing! 1
Hoots Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Hope they've got some way of blending the runway into the scenery, it's a bit... stark
Finkeren Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 It also look a little bit strange, that the smaller trees, the pole with the windsock etc don't cast any shadows
