Lusekofte Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Well you do control George the same way. In fact you can order him to attack with all weapons But honestly , Hind is far cooler and it take a lot of bullets I do not think AK 47 affect it in any way. I have also renewed my love for the Gazelle. Still think engines is too weak but it is a fun heli to fly. I find myself flying BS 3 a lot too. I might have matured enough to actually be good in it. It’s automatic flare release also do help a lot. But Hind is the one I favour. Apache is just too much computer procedure to do

Gambit21 Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Knew that the Zero was on the way, (because it just had to be) but great to hear that the AH-1 is on the books...that's what I wanted to hear. Probably years away, but I'll take it.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 I sat down with the Apache tonight, and started over from square one. And then I said, screw this. I flew an F-5 instead, and missed with every bomb I dropped.

And now when I sort of can do it I still not see the point spending time with it
Archie Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Why spend time pretending to fly on a computer to pretend to fly a computer... ? 1
Guest deleted@83466 Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 (edited) The most interesting part with the F-5 was how he couldn’t get a gun solution, and in fact, looked to be getting the worst of it, but managed to maneuver-kill the MiG-17 twice. Now we know though: nose to nose tactics favor the Tiger, at least down low. Great vid. Quote Why spend time pretending to fly on a computer to pretend to fly a computer... ? There’s some truth to that for sure. But sometimes it isn’t only the glass planes that can be tedious from my pov. Don’t know if you’re familiar with the Tomcat, but the user interface in the back seat made the menu-driven glass in later planes a relief for me, not to mention that it’s a tough, technical job. It was a pain, and I didn’t have the patience, and maybe not the smarts, to be a RIO. I hope the F-4 is simpler to operate in the back seat. Edited January 9, 2024 by SeaSerpent

People love it. I decided to give it a shot because of that. it’s instability close to ground give it a bit of charm, rest of the flight is sort of automated. Making it less interesting. But it is cool looking at things and shoot it to smithereens I can not totally park it. But it ain’t my favorite

Remember it’s an older radar, so a bit more tuning involved etc.
Gambit21 Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 The flip side though is that with Jester 2.0 it should be easier up front
Lusekofte Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 When jets got more complicated with radar and other systems. Steampunk cockpits started to age fast. Computers suppose to make user interface easier. But in my point of view the more computer power you got the more complicated systems it have to deal with. And they just added it into an inadequate os. In my point of view the user interface in Hornet and F 16 is not easy , it is not in my mind easily adopted by a civilian casual flyer. While steam punk systems tend to be made more logical. And stick better to the brain. At least the Russian ones I flown and Viggen.
Gambit21 Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 I see these great, atmospheric externals of Hornets on the deck, deck crew walking around, catapult steam etc and it makes me think I should be flying the Hornet. Then I remember that being in that cockpit is not nearly so visceral, atmospheric and fun as those externals and it’s just pushing buttons and riding a limiter. I think the upcoming Cold War navy/marine jets will be the best way to experience carrier ops.

With the plug seemingly pulled on Heatblur's own deck crew for the Forrestal DCS finds itself in a position where one either lands a 1970s fighter on a 1990/2000s carrier or the USS Marie Celeste. With an F6F in the offing, Im really hoping ED add a WW2 element to the supercarrier tech in time.

Im still years away from being able to man spread my gear out again in the living room or annexing the lads room when i pack him off to a distant uni (as a student or cleaner, I care not which) so at least I have the luxury of future hope over the annoyance of present frustration (though I fear when that glorious day comes my 5600X and 3080 will be woefully out of touch). Running a couple of my missions tonight after the latest patch (loading and sitting in the pit watching the AI do its thang, nothing more) I have noticed that previous frame pacing/hanging issues with MT seemed to have improved of late though. What i found most worrying was Wag's endless patience sitting through the in-jokey love-in that was the stream above. Cleary he's a man used to sitting in very long unfocussed meetings....

But I see what you mean. Half the time patches seem to make the game smoother for half the consumers. We will not know what’s needed in a few years.

I rather keep my rig as is. I might buy a new ssd for it but I have adequate performance. I really do not care too much for eye candy ++++ More the feel I got while flying.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 For whatever reason, I got on an F-5 kick. I never really flew that much at all, but that’s what I did this evening. So, I bring up the MiiG-28 vs F-14A quick mission. First two times I have no idea what I’m doing with the hotas, I’ve forgotten all the sight modes, etc. But after reviewing the controls, and about 10 minutes, I know it good enough. I can’t just come back to most 4th Gen aircraft like that at all, even if I knew them very well to begin with. So I guess I too, am a fan of 3rd Gen aircraft: I actually fly them much more often because I don’t need a several day refresher course to regain the muscle memory and relearn all the modes, and this and that.

Hmmm they mention the full functionality of the bombardier's equipment, but when it comes to the navigator's station, the words seem to address the 3d modelling and not the equipment. The Lancaster was famous for it's many radar and radio nav kadjiggers, it would be a superb experience to actually fly by night using them. 1
Faustnik Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I just started using DCS. The main reason for the purchase is this thread. The Fw190a8 with a Kommandogerat was my choice for a first simpler start with the sim. The sim is a lot of fun! Cold start, take off and land are great. The manual is useful and fairly good to understand. The Fw190 fly is a brick! No turning is the rule. DCS’s Fw190 feels similar to original IL-2 Fw190. Flying at high altitude is difficult which seems accurate. Attacking B-17s with escorting Mustang are rough! ? The only question with DCS’s Fw190a8 is that it actually Fw190a7. Erhöhte Notleistung with 1.58/1.65 ata is not it the sim. That is a very small issue. Adjusting graphics settings is easy. Everything looks a little rough and B-17 groups randomly float around. Even B-17s disappeared in medium distance. I’m sure i will adjust the settings at some point. Thanks to everyone using this post.

You’re coming in at a good time - the product really has some momentum at this point. Good things are happening. While there is still a bi to go, the “no cohesive content” criticism is becoming more and more a thing of the past. 1 1

I like your optimism but I just don’t see the reason. Yes, the video did show a Corsair, Zero and Hellcat, which have been talked about for years. But still no real indication of a release date. And they do have about a half dozen WWII aircraft, an assets pack and a Normandy map. And that’s about it. I have tried to get into this title many times. But the lack of variety and immersion buzz kill doesn’t work for me. Jets, which I don’t fly, seem to be much more fleshed out and are probably a lot of fun. But each to their own. When the WWII content becomes “cohesive” I will try again.

DM and spotting comparing those two is similar but I hope dm will come to be as complex as systems in DCs. Bottom line is it is not for all. I myself is not yet very ww2 oriented in DCs. I hope that will change because GB just left ww2 1
