So just go ahead and buy it I guess? Usual DCS confusion lol. At least I've got some points so it will only cost me $4!
sevenless Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Great trailer. Getting that map is a no-brainer for 10USD. Now bring on the Tiffy and a P51-B/C or some others which fit the timeline.

I did - works as intended - theres no notification you have anything extra when the game stts but its all there - this is standalone not steam BTW - dunno if Steam is different. 1
Trooper117 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Steam users will get the discount same as standalone... From ED "For those of you who run DCS World Steam Edition, please rest assured that we are doing our best to bring you the exact same exclusive deals. Stay tuned for details. In the shop it's telling me I've got the discount... $9.99 for Normandy 2. I'll be downloading shortly.

BOO Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 For £8.39 is a great deal and its a vert competant piece of work. But its not the quantum leap forward in map making some around other forums various are making it out to be. For me, in comparsion with other maps the colours are still off whilst the whole thing looks a little too clean and a little too procedural. It doesnt feel as natural as the Channel map. Its sorta Clod meets 2023. For missions makers, professional or otherwise however its a boon - theres a lot of very nice and imaginative detail around the airfields.

Yeah I had the same warning earlier today when I grabbed it, BigNewy over on Discord advised to just ingnore it and proceed with the purchase which I did. Awesome map for sure, well worth the 10 bucks for me.
DBFlyguy Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 They finally got Steam sorted out, $14.99 for me, I only had The Channel map previously. Normandy 2.0 looks great!
Trooper117 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Updated, bought the map (a steal for what you get)... I'm very pleased. With the Channel map and now Normandy 2, the level of detail available is pretty awesome. 1
Dagwoodyt Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Bought the $9.99 upgrade version though only owned the Channel map. Normandy/Paris looks hideous, though Store page lists all versions of update as same file sizes ?
Guest deleted@83466 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Flew around in a Huey, looking at various things like the Nelson column at Trafalgar Square and the various palaces and cathedrals. Even went looking for a particular rooftop on Saville Row. There definitely was a performance hit for me, but not terrible. The street level detail is comprehensive with little details like bicycles beside a building, period posters on the kiosks. I’m impressed.

Yeah, there's some of a problem going on currently for Steam users. Even though the map is allegedly purchased, once they launch the game, only the updated N1 with low-res extended areas loads for them.

Guest deleted@83466 Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) I’m not as interested in flying WW2 stuff over this right now as I am exploring in an unarmed helicopter. Ribbon Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) Something is wrong with their webshop, i paid Normandy v2.0 2.01$? I used miles and instead of 7.8$ it charged me discount amount only. In checkout it wrote 7.8$, in profile after payment it wrote i paid 9.99$ and in my bank account it charged me only 2,01$ Edited April 22, 2023 by =VARP=Ribbon

Art-J Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Posters & bicycles are nice and all, but I just hope they'll add some more landmark buildings and structures in the future. Sacre Coeur basilica is sorely missing, if not for sightseeing reasons, than at least for quick visual flight path orientation in relation to the Eiffel. Dover Castle ain't there either, although one could argue that it doesn't have to be, 'cause it's just behind the "border" with Channel map (the city itself is there, however?). For combat-oriented pilots, omission of Eperlecques bunker is quite glaring, even if we wouldn't be able to damage it with our teeny-weeny bombs. It's still an Early Access map, though, we know extra 19 or so airbases are in the works, so maybe the other goodies will come as well.

WW2 stuff and DCS; was planning that .... just got Normandy 2.0. Paris oui, oui, ! London the Place to be ... really miss these cities in IL2 BoN. It seems i bought the ww2 assets pack a while ago, and channel also, so i got the update quite cheap. Only now i wonder which ww2 planes are worthwhile. Seems i only have the spit. IL2 until now is my favorite, and many planes in it (think i kept buying all the IL2 stuff so far). Some planes in IL2 i like a bit less as the P47d22 (that's my opinion!) but i now wonder how the DCS version compares. Also the FW A8 and P51Dcurious too. --------------- BTW Helicopters in DCS, i don't have a collector stick, any tips how to use a warthog set with them? I never had much success taking off in a Huey sofar: Edited April 22, 2023 by jollyjack
BOO Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 I not really able to get past the colour saturation and over sharpness in the map. Im really trying to like it but it isnt doing much for me at all. With the current lack of SSAA in the MT part of the game and the ongoing lack of Alt-Enter Im forced to use the older non-MT branch which, performance wise is ok but would no doubt get battered in a mission. Even this it aint great. The alisasing seems much more apparent than in othe maps for sure. 9 minutes ago, jollyjack said: BTW Helicopters in DCS, i don't have a collector stick, any tips how to use a warthog set with them? I never had much success taking off in a Huey sofar: You dont really need a collective but an extension to the stick might be useful. The less curve you have the better although a small amount is fine. The warthog throttle works well enough. I Think that I have mine set without any alteration to the curves and it does just fine. if you are stuggling perhaps take some out of the initial part of the throw. Gently does it is the key. 1
jollyjack Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) I have my throttle unit modded with a i think Delta-sim button which i use for rudder, works fine, and also have a saitek pedal set i never used so far. Latter any good for Hueys? Guess i am not good with DCS planes any way ... Cant speak for the set butpedals I consider essential. Proper use of the trim set switches too. They take a lot of work out using of self centering sticks though I tend to exlcude the rudders in the special options. Speaking of which, make sure those options are set according to your gear. And...if there is an option of "assists" untick it. - does more harm than good. 1 1

Oh boy, don't try the Thunderbolt in DCS unless you never ever want to play the il-2 version again... it's that good. For helicopters, just use your throttle as the collective axis. Map it to whatever your are comfortable with, teeeechnically you should be pulling the throttle back towards yourself for more power, vs a plane where away from you means more power. But it's a tough transition for people that have flown planes for a long time and they just map it like a plane throttle. Whatever works for you. 5
Guest deleted@83466 Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Just saw they have a 50% off sale on many WW2 planes right now.

gn728 Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Greetings...I've got a question about Open Beta. I've had DCS for some time, but didn't really dive in much, mainly because of hardware. Recent new build, and now runs fine...lol so far. My question is about the Open Beta version. It's a completely separate program correct, they don't exist together? And basically you'd have one or the other, or would there be any reason to have both? Thanks.....
