Update even came with adjustable vanity mirrors for you F-14 guys!

That actually might be quite useful to me, as I've never liked the default head position in the Tomcat so moved it a bit further back. This in turn caused the mirrors to be looking at my helmet and not particularly helpful!!!!!

Going to be a lot of taste tests going on tonight with the MT.

But with what I'm seen so far, I'm a bit closer to keeping my video card as is. And if we get Vulkan as well, oooohhhhh.....

Indeed Canada one. The main reason I still like to get a 4000 series gfx card asap is.... DCS.

With MT this is still badly needed because dcs vr requires far more than 8 GB VRAM, but I guess people with a 3080 ti 12 GB VRAM can now stick to those, at least for DCS and... for the time being.

I never was going for changing my 3080. It ran old DCs just fine, enough for me.
someone said MT do not work good for those  having over 32 cores. But I know nothing about that.
It sure run smoother

Holy cow! Just spent good part of the day flying in the Spit single player Campaign on Normandy.

The performance improvement for me in my Varjo Aero with today's update for Multi Threading has made quite the difference!

From what I am seeing the performance improvement is substantial across the board.

So last DCS update they added native Open XR runtime for VR, and today's update multi-threading.  They are rocking.

As the IL2 crew fiddles...guess I'll be reinstalling DCS!

DCS is the only reason I'd get a new card. Everything else runs well enough on my 2060 Super. MSFS could use some more FPS but I don't spend much time there.

Seriously, though, not giving Nvidia any money would be glorious!

I just play in pancake mode, as I heard someone call it. But I should try VR someday.

Dude my 1080 ran DCS well enough.

3080’s are still sorta new and not BLEEding edge, but leading edge. You talk like it’s a 970.

I’m running a 3070 now, but the increase in performance was incremental. It was the processor and 64 GB of RAM that made the difference.

I had a 1080 ti but bought a cheap office pc with  3080. So I swapped

That’s not really a Mirage, you know.  It’s an entirely different plane.

Good plan to stick to purchasing aircraft that don’t speak to you, like Viper.

Posted (edited)

I swap the viper anytime for that. But the Viper and well 99% of all the modules I have I do not use. And I know this one will not be Used. I fly sp and I have no time for it.

btw. I do like the viper. And I might very well take it on if this hornet flirt work well. Another good reason to stay away from other complex aircraft like Strike eagle. I have a cunning plan. F 16 served in Norway to date. It done well

Me too. One can not service too many planes in DCS. You just get confused

Best thing about the new patch is you can have giant WWII furballs in DCS now. I saw a 100% increase in FPS in a big encounter.

DCS WWII is looking great! It's a whole new game.

Took a solo spin in my lovely DCS P-51 on the Syria map over the cities and I can't say the FPS went up more than maybe 5%, but it felt smoother. I wonder if this is helping with the 1% lows - unless that whole thing is a myth - or it's just my imagination.

Definitely my favourite DCS WWII fighter.

I have a semi-new computer and DCS was running pretty well prior to this update.  I see the differences now though in that stat window..it was like 100+ all the time (120hz monitor with Gsync) and then it says theoretical (whatever that means) 300 something, and GPU bound.  Then I tried it again on the non MT version, and it was about 20 or 30 frames lower in the same “free flight” Tomcat mission, and didn’t say anything about bounding or theoretical….

like I said, it was good before, but this is almost like a hardware freebie, seriously, I think.  This is one small step for DCS, but one giant leap for DCS-kind.?

It really is like a hardware freebie. Not sure I hit the right buttons to start the sim before in the P-51, but this time I was sure I was out of MT and then in MT. My rooftop Apache flight over a big city with pretty high settings went from about 22 to about 35 to 40. That's better than upping my 2060 to a 3060. ?

Pretty freaking cool to get a software update that saves you hundreds in hardware.

I'll have to try the Tomcat and see how that does.

The reason I tried the Tomcat first was seriously because I wanted to check out adjustable mirrors.  Lol, but as trivial as it sounds, it’s a feature I wished for in some flight sim since IL-2 Battle of Kuban, when we first started having mirrors in planes like the P-40.

And after fiddling with the mirrors and catching sight of yourself - insert sound of angelic chorus here - was it everything you hoped for? ?

Tested it this night on WWII multiplayer in the 109.

Already everything maxed beside SSAA, SSLR and SSAO and got always around 30 to 35 fps with my Reverb G2 and a plain vanilla 3090, the new update delivers a noticable performance boost.

And finally my game actually runs on OpenXR natively. I didn't get it to run without SteamVR on the last patch, tried everything.

So I am happy with the start. It is only a start, as multi-threading now means two cores working instead of one in DCS. More to come I hope.

Ive probably misunderstood you but its using up to 16 P cores for the graphics now (chip dependent) with the rest of the demands spread over others and logic on the E cores (propably misunderstood that too)

Either way for a 2D player like me the inital results are encouraging - admittedly Ive not started DCS for months so im unsure if improvments have been made before this but from the two quick check "go tos" it an impressive boost. Not comprehensive but an indicator.

All this is at 1080P but with everything maxed including SSLR,SSAO, SS (1.5) Ryzan 5600X and 3080 unfettled.

MI24 weapons range start up before 56 fps - post 108 (mirros on)

Mi24 disastter relief - before averaging 56 with heavy stutter on triggers - post ave 94 no stutter

For me thats a good start - more than a good start - the BIG negative however is that MT does not play well with the Alt-Enter hack - this means some distracting stuttering for me with vsync enabled particularily at lower levels (i prefer helos so its an issue for me at least) - so a lot of give and a little taketh away.

hmm Im not sure if they havent helped TBH - before you fitted your fire suppression systems and hacked into your neighbours electricity supply, bought your 4090 and had a bit of a boost but still matbe had to make compromises whilst justfting the cost to yourself- now potentially those uber cards make more sense and justification for diehard DCS VR players perhaps?

Only speculation as I only use goggles to swin with.

Whatever though - all comments above are bang on - so far its a $1500 performance boost for bugger all. One ill take all day long even with glitches.

Vr is a hype. In my opinion two to tree cute screens with buttons are more immersive.
I bought state of the art controls before I touched vr.
But it got some good sides.

You’ve just described how our Royal Navy ended up with two aircraft carriers without catapaults and the F35B….

If I'm not mistaken, the F35 doesn't need catapults 'cause it can take off vertically.

Have a nice day.

I am not very updated on Royal Navy. But I am quite fond of it. I grew up with them coming every year for winter practice. Special treat for me when Royal Ark was visiting and the Harriers flying low everywhere. I felt sad when it decommissioned. Is it true you got two new ones?

And what planes if not F 35 , it would be the better choice

excuse my ignorance

I have problems now because my settings allowe for weird pows like sitting in cockpit with no plane around me. These settings are the same as getting toolkit up. I not yet configured it so I only guessed this was the reason.

I also have graphical problems with lost paradise campaign. I get simplified ground textures and fog inside cockpit view but in [F2] view it is all ok. And only in this career.

It is terrifying sitting there minding your own business and suddenly a 5 kg cat jumping on your lap. I now got g2 goggles with headphones totally isolated from the world. Before I had rift s with speakers in the forehead enabling you to some out of game inputs
