9./JG27MAD-MM Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) After the D-Day there was actually action in the Sky over Normandy, after the Luftwaffe send more Fighter Units... But this don't last long there was around 800 Germans against 12000 Allied Planes Air Combat was there in Place max at the End of July.. Evreux JG 5 and JG3 as example... After they set a Part of English Coast the Map hopefully get some Point reworked with deleting of the Allied forward Airfields for more versatile Use... But when we get there a good Set Up out of the Map and Planes I have enough Time in my Pension to Fly... So enough before the Forum Police shows up again and says personal Opinion is not allowed... =362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Condolences to all trying to update their 2.0 version to 2.1, trying to log into game or download Normandy pack. I finally forced updater via CMD to start Normandy download. Nightmare ...
Blutaar Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Im downloading with 1,5-3,2 MB/s, it will take a bit hehe but i can wait, its not a problem. Thank you Blooddawn 1942 for posting, you are faster then the DCS email.

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 So it turns out you NEED assets to buy with Normandy, cant just have map (as most jet guys want to). I have downloaded map and fired up game thinking that at least I will fly for a while over map in a free flight or perform a cold start. So I have tried P-51 free flight or cold startup but game responded with a window requesting installation of assets. It's basically mandatory to have assets or you cant even use missions or tutorials for modules even if those assets are totally unrelated. Tried P-51 and 190 D-9, same response. Downloading assets now but I dont understand why I have to.
Jaws2002 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I got the assets with the pledge in the kickstarter. I just checked. I have keys for both the map and the assets package. Mine is still downloading....for the last four hours. Condolences to all trying to update their 2.0 version to 2.1, trying to log into game or download Normandy pack. I finally forced updater via CMD to start Normandy download. Nightmare ... Mine didn't want to update either. I had to run the updater utility as administrator and then it worked.
Tuesday Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Yeah had to start the map install with CMD, and will move onto assets next; thanks for the heads up.
No_85_Gramps Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Mine took about 2 1/2 hours total. Update to 2.1, then had to use the CMD method to get Normandy and the assets. Initial impression, by me, is not favorable. But I'll let others judge for themselves.
Jaws2002 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 My 2.1 is installed, but the updater utility couldn't see the new map, so i had to update the utility and now it's downloading the map. Now i remember why i got tired of DCS back then. They like to make new stuff and use it together with some 20 years old technologies, because they were too damn cheap to start fresh at some point. I remember how frustrating was to install a new skin in the game. This patching saga brings back all those memories.
Blooddawn1942 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Performance is not very good... Loading time approx 4 minutes and heavy stutters....
Rolling_Thunder Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 777/1c shouldn't be worried about competition from ED or stepping on their toes and plan for a tactical Western Europe theatre. It's quite clear, from the performance, from the plane set, from the development time that ED are staggeringly incompetent in all but making good 3D assets.

For some reason I haven't felt the urge to jump into DCS's WWII modules and now I'm definitely not doing so any time soon. 3
Gambit21 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Dammit. I really want to see "surprise! This is actually coming together!" kinds of posts.

Urra Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Performance is not very good... Loading time approx 4 minutes and heavy stutters.... This on SSD ?
Jaws2002 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) Mine loads almost as fast as the last one. 20 seconds to start the game and then first instant dogfight mission takes 50-55 seconds. Next mission is much faster. ten seconds or so. This is on an older SSD. Frame rate is definitely lower. At 2560x1440 i get around 55-60 fps down in the weeds. Up high is a lot better. Edited May 27, 2017 by Jaws2002
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Mine loads a lot longer than 1.5 version, I even would say that it loads slower than 1.5 did load on my HDD. But its obvious, most of the map files are packed and take huge space to unpack and preload. I yesterday hit my RAM limit and got warning from windows that limit is about to be reached when map loaded fully and I saw 13 GB of RAM in use. I closed all browsers and unnecessary stuff but it remained above 11 Gb for me which is very high. Performance is okish, on my setup I can run slightly higher settings than in 1.5 and it looks good, about 48-60 FPS. Sometimes it dips to 35-38 but thats rare. Experience is not that smooth though as if I'd be having constant 60. Took P-51 for a spin and had a few dogfights with 109 K-4s, kind of nice. Then took a flight from Normandy to Britain, a 300 mph cruise at 3k ft to 8k ft (shallow climb) consumed about 30-35 gallons of fuel. Not a big deal for me but I have no idea how Spitfires will fly from UK and combat over the Normandy.
Urra Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Turns out 2.1 won't even startup for me after the update...might be mig21 that's messing it all up.

All the MP servers with any activity on them seem to require it as well. First thing I did was figure out I'm not allowed to fly on the ACG server. But hey at least it totally won't split the community right?

Blooddawn1942 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 This on SSD ? Yes. On SSD. It's really bad. No matter what graphic options I choose. I have stutters which lasts several seconds. Awful. Nevada and 1.5 run both smooth with maximal settings.

I recently doubled up my memory, from 16 GB to 32 GB and the new graphics card brought another 11GB. That may be the reason it runs smooth on my end. Not as smooth as the last installment, 2.05, but stays above 50 FPS and loads fast. Before this upgrade took for ever to load Nevada. Edited May 27, 2017 by Jaws2002

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I plan to go with next platform with a set of 2 x 16 GB. Wonder how much GB of vram it consumes on max settings, my GPU has only 2 GB o vram so it's full all the time.
Lusekofte Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) I aborted the install yesterday, I will not attempt such a endevour with my GTX 680 and 2,8 ghz i7 It just have to wait. I was originally planning to buy new PC when VR have a next generation, it depends I have the pations for it now when DCS is starting to act up. I was considering the new AMD 1800 rezus CPU and a 1070 gpu But I hear those with 1080 have stutters Edited May 27, 2017 by 216th_LuseKofte

coconut Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 It worked pretty well for me in VR. Landscape movement is a bit stuttery at times, but it's bearable as head movement remains smooth. The map itself is charming, being Normandy. That means there is a lot of green, a lot of blue, and it's all flat. I noticed some details that were not properly taken care of, for instance the junction between rivers and the ocean. There's an ugly abrupt change of altitude and texture. We'll see how BOK handles this, hopefully more graciously.
kestrel79 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Think I'm holding off until they merge into one big install.

Blutaar Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Indeed it looks very good, look at that viewrange, you even can see a clear horizontal line, i love it.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 It looks good on a pictures like this, but if you take a flight on normal midday mission it's not as impressive. I mean ... when I saw Nevada for the first time I was more impressed even though I had no interest in it. Normandy is not bad but for today it doesn't give that "wow" that I had with Nevada. I wonder how will kuban compare to this with all the new technologies implemented. 2
BOO Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Indeed it looks very good, look at that viewrange, you even can see a clear horizontal line, i love it. Yeah clear horizons - but good luck with judging how far away you are from the sea's surface!!
