Rafale. Got to be the Rafale.?

The prettiest carrier aircraft ever. No competition.

Probably not what Gambit was referring to, but I can dream.

Hey Gambit, what do you plan to nickname the Rafale? ?

For years I ignorantly thought it was the "Rafael" so there's that.

I enjoyed the Fighter Pilot Podcast episode on it...not one of those planes I'd learned much about...very cool plane though.

No G limit (Typhoon is the same I think)

ED is getting all of my money lately. I Took advantage of the 50% off sale and I picked up the Mi24P and the Syria map. From what little I have seen of both so far, they are absolutely stunning. Ed has been working on that Dynamic Mission Generator/Career for two years now, and I am hopeful they will integrate it into DCS this years. Fingers crossed! winkngrin

I should probably give the Hind a go on free trial sometime. From what I've read, it seems to have some odd (though probably realistic) flight characteristics, but something about it's sheer brutal Soviet-era ugliness appeals. That and all the blowing-stuff-up kit...

Fixed-wing aircraft can be beautiful. Helicopters can't, and attempting to make them so just makes them look bland.

If you treat it like a heavy fast Mi 8 you be all right. Slowing it down take time. But once getting used to it , it is a gem. I do not know if it has improved fm over time, but in start, when it came I hated it. Now I would say it is my favorite. Have no problem flying it.
Petrovich has improved, but still I have problems with him searching the wrong targets. But one can get him flying and pick it yourself

I also took advantage of the sale and picked up the Mosquito for 50% off.  (I own most everything else).  Having fun learning this one now too.

OK - nothing personal but that’s just dumb. ?

It’s true, we did invent everything and it is linked to food:

”Dinner is served darling”

”Fantastic! What is it?”

”It’s more of this tasteless gloopy sh*t we all eat dearest”

”Ah….unfortunately my love I’m really busy with this spinning Jenny, triple-expansion engine,  Great Western railway, etc to eat at the moment….”

”But we’re having spotted dick, your favourite”

”Yeah, er, must just finish this Bessemer converter before I put that in my face right now love….”

You also invented Mr Bean which I’m profoundly grateful for. Also the new version of All Creatures Great and Small, and Miss Scarlet - on point.

So you went from mostly the most awful TV (with a few exceptions) to the absolute best. :)

I’m sure it’s tied into food somehow ?

And Endeavour!

They eat a lot in this series also!

Always meant English series was the best. Excellent exterior and interior, a less dramatic way of acting. So many humoristic senses.
And the British has a way to react on huge crisis, like “ bugger” then bend their neck and go on. Might be less suited for small crises , but that goes for all western countries

Man still mulling over whether I want to delve into the WWII arena with DCS. I reckon it would not hurt to go ahead and set up some controls for the Spit and maybe even go through cold start before I take off and fly around free flight. Maybe then I can decide. I really need to get back to my Apache training though but hard to tear away from Hornet compaign. OMG first world problems!  I am retired and have nothing but time yet not enough, how in the world do you guys learn so many modules and carry a job at the same time? I tip my hat to ya!

Why? I already have many hours in it trying to learn all of it, and enjoying it so far. I just need to learn much more before any campaign flying.

You asked how people do it and work. I avoid Hornet and Apache.
But I do understand why you do it.
Hornet, A10 and probably Apache will be those with most campaigns. To me they bring little to no relevance. I like the carrier landings and takeoffs but that is it. I care little to none about the systems. So I do not do them. For choppers I like more civilian tasks.

I so love the Hornet campaigns yeah there are some really good ones out there. All the ones I have flown have been based off the Super Carrier and are a blast to fly for me. Like I say it is good I am retired but still not enough time to do all I want to do.

Saw it some days ago. This is basically what I plan to do once a Su-17/22 is released with the only difference that I do want to organise it with likely-minded mud movers to have at least squadron-sized raids for maximum emotional damage on the enemy team

Well went in and got most my controls set up for the Spit. Can't believe I am doing this but really want to check it out. I have had all this content I might as well see how I like it.

Tomorrow will be a break from Hornet campaign - either some more Apache learning or beginning of Spit learning.  Will see how I feel in the morning and mood I am in.

Spitty!  Spitty!   Spitty!

I have to say that the Spitty in CLOD and DCS are my favorites. GB's Spitty is good as well.

You should really enjoy the DCS Spitty with your 200mm GFII, CM3 and Crosswinds DB.

They make flying the Spitty a real pleasure.

Very nice!!

Yeah I have a lot of hours in with Great Battles Spit - each version, so looking forward to comparing DCS Spit. Very excited about being able to use my Point CTRL unit with it , that is a big factor for me now. If I start tomorrow I will probably focus on learning cold start procedure along with just some free flighting around.

Yes I have all the maps thanks.  Well I woke up in a Spit mood this morning so reckon I will be delving into DCS WWII later on today. Think I will just go through cold start on Normandy map and free flight around a bit. I must admit going to be nice doing a cold start.

Kinda feel like i am betraying IL-2 a liittle bit, I look at it more that I am expanding my horizons...

Is the performance and DM better ?

IL2 is becoming more arcade and boring, want to try DCS again, but the performance in VR was horrible compared to IL2.

Don't know, I am sure it is not as good in the performance dept as IL-2 but that is to be expected. I I will have better feel for that here in a bit.

Ensure you use OpenXR.  Enable foveated rendering and FSR and that will help.

I'm fairly new to IL2, though I've owned it for a long time.

The FM is more taxing in DCS, e.g. torque on take off is far more apparent and the aircraft feel less on rails when in flight.  Having said that, the accuracy of the AI ground fire is stupidly good.  I'm currently enjoying my time in IL2.

Ok so have done some free flight in Channel Map.

First I could not get cold start done, for some reason my kneeboard builder pages did not transfer properly they are totally unreadable.  Tried the cold start training and apparently it is broke it stops early on and does not progress. Ok so when all else fails do auto start.

Got her airborne no problem and flew around the channel for a while. Once trimmed out and curves adjusted she handled pretty good. Definitely needed some curves on pitch as it was quite sensitive. Had a good time and enjoyed some of that great Merlin sound in fly by exterior view. Came back to base and set up for landing and made a beautiful three pointer which amazed me. And no takeoff assist was off.

Peformance - definiltely less than I get in Persian Gulf with the Hornet. I would say maybe 5-10% less. Also to me, well the map did not look that great. Seemed fairly blurry to me, at least blurrier than I am used to seeing in the Persian Gulf.

Now just gotta figure a way to learn cold start without the benefit of documentation, or a way to get the pages transferred into kneeboard in a readable format. Cold starts are a big part of the immersion for me and the whole point of me trying it out in DCS.

Also Spit cockpit in VR did not seem to have as good a clarity as the Hornet cockpit.

Nice little video on the Spit BM!...I have all the DCS WWII stuff, and you have to admit, DCS have absolutely nailed that Merlin engine sound.

I've got all the Spit campaigns for DCS and started flying them awhile back but stopped due to my eye operation. But will start on them again soon.

For anyone getting into the DCS Spitfire, Reflected gives a pretty good tutorial along with HOTAS curves etc...

Dang last free flight my engine died after about 5 minutes. Pretty sure I lowered RPM and Boost so not sure what happened there. Maybe I somehow stressed it.

It did it again next attempt. No idea why, temps seem fine, rpm around 24, mixture on auto.

Edit: Ok I think I got it now...

Getting good performance compared to before albeit with a new system. Yep better performance on Il-2 but I much prefer the DCS flight models. Fingers crossed, but I'm hoping I now have a rig that will enable me to actually fly the campaigns with acceptable performance (never look at fps just what feels smooth to me). Flew the channel map myself last night and everything seemed/felt good. Does not seem to be any way around using ultra clouds though if you want to get rid of those jaggies. Look fantastic though...

But at the moment I'm loving the Apache too much for WW2...
