Gambit, all planes in DCS have the Auto-Start “cheat” sequence if you want it, not to mention all of the FC3 planes, which literally do start with ‘E’.

I am not a nerd. But in DCS I do not fly seriously before I can start up the machine. Know it’s system and can use that system for navigation, beacon and radio.
This is why I do not touch the Hornet, Viper , A 10 and I am finished with the pilot part of the Apache. I might use it a little bit more when learning how to utilise George.
Clod is a little closer to what I like. SU 25’s are great in my opinion.

The DCS warbirds still allow the pilot to actually “feel” the forces caused by a spinning prop to an extent that IL-2 does not.  Otherwise the same planes feel quite similar to each other in a lot of ways between the two sims (to me), as they should if their FM’s are generally accurate.

Agree with this very much. Also, the makers of both sims have been at pains to point out that there’s a limit to what they can reproduce due to the limitations of our pc’s computing powers and the fact that most of us are piloting these 1500hp monsters through little plastic toy joysticks sitting on our desks.

Whilst DCS has the advantage of being “reassuringly expensive” we are all in fact enjoying one man’s vision of an FM.

Laugh at your will, what do I care. You wanna fight with ridicule, I have no interest in that, so lets just drop it.

I have a really good time with both.  They are different I have different expectations when I use them but both are great and I feel lucky to have either, much less both.

I would no longer do flight sims if I had only one of these. Simple as that

I would, but I still much prefer DCS. If for no other reason than the quick and easy ability to make my own flights. I can't stand always having to fly someone else's flight. And though the IL2 QMB is better now, it's still someone else's version of a flight. "Here. We think you should fly... this!"

No, I don't want to fly that.

I want my flight.

Aside from my love for the destruction of the natural environment, I'm really a very nice guy. ?

And I want my flight. My plane, right.... there!

Anyway, felt just like home.

Hope you're happy and healthy!

I mean let's be honest, we're flying on a monitor/vr in the comfort of an office chair with no sensation of gravity or feedback from the controls. There's not a lot we can really do to fully simulate the forces of flight so we have to compromise.

I agree. But using SimShaker Wings and a FF joystick makes a big difference in how the sim “feels”.

Not a Lumberjack, a Hockey Player!
The gulag, hot buttered Vodka in the sauna with...

But yeah DCS Fw 190 A8 has neet funtional instruments and clock with a stop watch, and other bitchin stuff.
That reminds me to say I feel a little sorry for those that don't have some sort of FFB JS.  Both sims are superb with FFB.

On the normandy map, if you set a mission date between 1939 and 1945, there will be a blackout at night

That was awesome to see that guy just step right in and do that like it was nothing.  I haven’t flown the Tomcat in DCS in a long time, but makes me want to go back to it.  I’ll almost certainly have to start from scratch now, like basic start checklist, lol.

p.s.  He said the landing speed bug setting is 140 - 0.5 knots per 1000 lbs below max landing weight, correct?

Sounds more like what I'd expect in a Hornet.

I actually made good on pulling the Tomcat out of the hangar.  I guess a lot of FM revisions have taken place since I last flew it, because I remember it being a bit twitchier.  Was able to tank and trap without much problem, even after about 2 years.  Seemed a lot easier to get on-speed during downwind.  Flying the plane might come back easier than I expected, but as far as the RIO pit goes, I only knew it at the minimal level before, and it’s still a position I’m inclined to avoid.  Unfortunately, for a lazy desktop pilot, that’s where all the brains in the aircraft reside.  Because of that lack of knowledge, I doubt I’ll ever be able to count the F-14 as one of the DCS planes I can claim to be “competent” with, because flying it and fighting with it (in MP environment specifically) are two different things.  Maybe the back seat of the F-4 will take a little less commitment…I’m hoping.  Being able to actually fly the plane from the back will aid the learning greatly.

p.s. After the Hornet, that low refresh rate of the F-14a/b HUD drives me nuts!

I'm kinda excited about Razbam saying the F-15E is "very very very close", I live in hope for Christmas, but it won't be long even if it doesn't work out for Christmas.

Meanwhile, messing around in the Viper, testing the autohand off function using the TGP and Mavericks, which used to be broken to a large degree, seems to be pretty good now!

I'm pretty sure I'll buy it.

That said, I love the F-4 more and she needs me...soon.

You're one of those old fashioned purists. You people and your Phantoms. ?

I might be one of the few who isn't all hot and sweaty over the F-4. But I'm sure Heatblur will do an amazing job with the plane. I put off the Tomcat until there was a sale, probably do the same with the Phantom.

The F-15E is the one I want. A giant ass, super tech, bomb truck. I read it might carry GBU-28s. That... is my baby!
