I finally started with DCS, (FC3 so I can fly the Gripen). Right now I’m having a blast flying CAS missions for UA in a DCS LIBERATION campaign with the SU-25 (not the ”T”-version). The Viggen + Kola map will be up next as soon as the map is available.

You have to take six months off to learn the Viggen.? That cockpit is a beast.

I found it quite intuitiv for the most part. I fly offline so it simply do not have campaigns .

This is why I am not much up to date with it

Australia...really.

DCS definitely has a hard on for mainly sand/desert area maps... the location IMHO adds nothing that can't be already done in NTTR...Syria...PG...Sinai...at least Kola seems a bit different and should give some decent scenario options.  But, they are gonna making a killing per usual... It's almost like selling additional maps without having to link them to a multi-year project is actually a profitable idea... if only other developers would be open to that idea hmmm ?

A bit of Australia. Its 3rd party so I guess anything goes...

An odd choice. Except that DCS is built around odd choices...

Australia...well, oookay

But ED is making progress. Normaly they release planes without context, now they release a map without any kind of context.

Eventually they'll get around to mapping the entire planet.

Probably the planet Venus...

If we had a P-40, and an A6M2, and a Rufe, and an Emily, and a PBY, than a WWII version would be great.

Well armoured though, given how much MG fire it seems to have taken to kill the b*****s.

Since MSFS is beyond my means, give me a Grumman Goose, plenty of civilian traffic, detailed Harbor etc and I’d be all over this map.

I’ll wait for my flying boat.

The Goose is great. Just had the privilege of flying in one a couple of months ago. We landed on asphalt, gravel and water. Plus the sound is great.

Allbeit I am very happy for Northern part of Norway, it and this just follow a fat line of inconsistancies

With Bronco comming , They should have announced Vietnam map. I can not understand the pattern, or rather the total lack of it.

A little bit more north. And I would have been thrilled if it was GB

I think to coincide with this map, their next announcement is a full fidelity recreation of the HMS Endeavor so that we can experience the most immersive recreation ever developed of Captain Cook's landing on the shores of Australia.

It fits right in with the DCS mantra of "completely random modules and terrains that have nothing to do with each other".

Edit - however if it happens to have a fully-clickable bridge and some training missions, I'm going to fall for it and buy it anyway, based on my history.

In fairness, the map is being done by a group of Australian DCS users as their first project in learning how to make maps. Any third party group would be nuts to do a Vietnam map as a first map, get it wrong and that will be the end of you. That applies to all the 3rd parties making maps at the moment.

As to Captain Cook, when I travelled up the East coast, you can see how the journey was going for Cook ands his crew, by the ever negative places he named... Mount Warning, all the way to Cape Tribulation....

Well Captain Hook rounded the Horn twice, and we've already got a map for that. Throw in HMS Beagle and we can do some proper exploration. Though for best effect, the Beagle voyage would probably be best done as some sort of multiplayer role-playing game. Your chance to re-enact in person the friction between deeply-Christian Captain Fitzroy and the rapidly-losing faith Darwin, as they debate the merits of the newly-discovered creatures they dine on and Darwin begins to gain an inkling that he may be consuming his relatives. Got to be a best-selling game, that...

Maybe this is what they had in mind:

As pointed out though, it’s not like one of the majors has to put something on hold to do this map, so it’s all good I suppose.

The 3rd party developers are independent entities, and have nothing to do with each other.

I can tell you that they do talk to each other (some of them anyway) but they each do their own thing.

This is like a "proof of concept" for this team before they take on something more critical, much like Mag 3 did with the Christen Eagle.

You're not missing out on anything due to this map. Vietnam is I'm sure already planned by someone, and who knows, underway.

We'll find out in the (I'm guessing) in the not too distant (in DCS time) future.

I'm envious.

I got up close to one at the 2019 Reno Air Races (it won the concours d'elegance) and already a fan of flying boats, fell in love with it.
