I bought it but it's not available to me as I haven't got space for another DCS on my HD...

You could use this utility to change your stable into beta, and even back again if you desire, its an option.

Yep, I've watched it three or four times and I'm in contact with Reflected so I can test his campaign. He gave me some hints (partial bindings) but again I'd rather not spend too many brain bytes if I could. Since there's no autolevel just the "Active Pause" I'm hoping to minimize clicking on tiny switches.

Get your navigator to do it for you, and keep him employed....?

Is Viacom still working? I had heard the last update fubar'd some features.

Oh yes - I use Viacom Pro with Voice Attack with every flight I make in DCS. Fantastic combo - little bit of learning curve but so worth it imho. Especially as I fly in VR. Never have to touch the keyboard on any of my missions.

Wags is really pumping out the Apache videos, sure hope it releases soon.

Really looking forward to trying to learn it. Tempted to get a Virpil Collective for it, but decided I will wait and see if I can learn this thing and stick with it first. I will make do with my CM3 throttle for it in the meantime till I can decide if I will be able to stay with it.

If you can't figure out how to fly it, you can at least use it to do sums...

I am so loving my campaign flying in the Hornet, but man I am so stoked for this upcoming release of the AH-64D. Dreading the learning curve but still very much excited about it.

Meh...I'd rather have a CAS platform/AH-1.

Right now I'm starting to look into F-14/BVR, and specifically how to get Jester to behave the way I want him to...or more precisely be quiet and let the script play, then pipe up again at the appropriate moment without stepping on his own lines. Will have to use a script.

And Wags sense of humor doesnt miss in this one ?

I'M NOT CLICKING!!!!

Stop trying to get me enthused about the Apache...because it will likely work.

Tom, Tom, Keven, DD's etc...anyone.

Any particular do's/don'ts/words of wisdom on Jester/BVR?

Do you stick with a basic TWS workflow? Seems relatively simple.

I'm trying to do 2 things.

1. Learn myself that I can have my own fun and not be useless.

2. Lear so that I can properly design a mission, and figure out what a player is most likely to know/employ so that I can structure both intercept timeline/ comms and on-screen prompts appropriately.

It seems to me that placing oncoming bandits in such a way that for example, 1 hostile is clearly out in front, and AI Jester will all the time lock/prioritize this guy in TWS as 1.

That way I can make the AI lead say "I've got the "northern guy" which will be the one behind, and the one Jester has as lock 2.  Just as an example. My life get's much more complicated than just learning this stuff for fun!

Anyway I'll go from there. That's about as far as I've gotten, and no time in the cockpit with it yet.

TWS seems fairly straightforward.

I think what helps is placing an E-2D and set up a datalink with it. That way you can at least see most targets right away, which doesn't necessarily mean you also have them on radar.

I haven't figured out yet how to make Jester go for a specific target (or assigning targets within the flight). That's probably some thing that's just possible with humans so far.

Not sure if HB is planning on more funcionality there.

IIRC the target numbers are assigned automatically by the AWG-9. The human RIO has only the option to decrement the number, so current #2 becomes #1 (and previous #1 becomes the last in the queue).

Not sure if Jester can be commanded to do that already or if that's only a planes feature.

Posted

Goes like this, once the Radar/Jester has his targets locked up. So you're seeing the target priorities on the HSD/TID, 1-4 etc.

Menu:

STT Lock (2)

TWS Target Number (6)

Target (1-8)

In this way you can choose exactly which guy among the contacts/targets you want to shoot at, assuming you want to shoot at a different target than the current (1) target.

You can also "break lock" and choose...I  have to watch the video again.

Didn't occur to me about the Hummer...thanks Thomas.

There are other mechanisms a human RIO can leverage to filter contacts out of the WCS priority list - unfortunately Jester does not currently have the ability to do this.

Another trick you can do to get the first phoenix off on a target of your choosing in TWS relies on having cooperative targets, specifically they having some significant lateral separation and approaching Rne: on the intercept if you bisect their separation with your datum and then order Jester to manually adjust the antenna azimuth to centre-left/right as appropriate, for a few seconds your desired target will be the priority. However, don’t hang about - as soon as you see the track is generated, commit a Phoenix cos the WCS will adjust the antenna azimuth to centre the target. This might bring the contact you were wanting to omit back in the radar’s field of view and could change the WCS prioritisation away from your desired target.

It’s a workaround (and a pretty inelegant one at that) but I have, on occasion, found it of use.

Interesting. What beast - I love that airplane.

My understanding of the MiG 29 -should be able to pour on the coals and stay with it however. I trust ED to do the right thing, but a well flown 29 shouldn’t be a baby seal to a Viper. It’s a twin-engined ACM beast itself.

Dear all,

Although it does not have the same meaning it did before the advent of digital media, today, DCS: AH-64D went “gold”. Meaning, that the code is locked and will not be touched unless we discover a crash or error that severely impacts gameplay. We are in the final phase!

Just as a reminder, once the DCS: AH-64D is released into Early Access, the 30% pre-order price will end and move to 20% for the duration the module is in Early Access.

Hey, I actually got job offers from a certain irish budget airline, after I posted this..

Hey, when you pay aircrew only the flight time, it is only logical to apply the same principle to creature comfort items..

(it is also because the APU is off and the generators are coupled to the rotor RPM)

Also:  Tunnelnazis are dangerous..

I'm getting excited about possibilities for the SA map. I thought I was going to ignore it, but that's changed.

Watching a RAZBAM interview now...that map is stunning.

Did you hear Dan Hampton's story about the Mirage pilots that got spanked before the merge, refused to accept that they were dead, then took their ball and went home? It was Red Flag I think.

No, but I know a story about a french team at a Recce-Meet (Royal Flush V at Bremgarten, 1960) that won by having a near-perfect score and a total round-trip time requiring supersonic groundspeed - in a subsonic aircraft (RF-84F). Or something the likes...

Cheat-a-boo! ?

Gotta dig it up.

Edit: Did the digging. Wasn't wrong ?

Man I am so stoked about the impending release of the Apache. Could be next week who knows, likely later toward the end of the month though. Sounds like they are really close.

Yeah, eminent without a doubt.

Can't decide whether to get the Apache.  Figured I would just do the 2 week trial once it's out but then I'd miss out on the 30% discount it's at now.

Is it likely to be more complicated than the Hornet?

Well the Hornet pretty much flies itself, it's the loads of systems that make it difficult to learn. So due to the Apache being a helicopter, I'd say it's quite likely ?

But the manual is out now, is it not? That may give an indication.

I have a feeling it will be a bugger bear to learn. But I dang sure am going to give it the good ole college try. I really want to order a collective from Virpil for it, but am going to hold off to see first if I am going to be able to stick with learning the Apache, and secondly to see if Virpil maybe releases a collective with Apache grip. Certainly I won't be spending money on a collective till I have decided I will be able to stick with the Apache and learn enough to be able to fly combat missions in it. Being as how I was a huge fan of Janes Longbow, I sure hope I can.

I have successfully learned enough of the Hornet and flying campaigns with it, just hoping I can do the same with the Apache. But man have I put in a ton of hours in learning enough of the Hornet to be able to fly campaigns with it. Still need to learn more.

Bring on both!

I'm kinda getting excited now, as the Apache seems very close now, even started looking at the videos to see what i'm going to have to learn!

It's going to be tempered by the F-16 stuff coming in this patch, several things I've been patiently waiting for for a while, especially the fm changes.

Annoyingly, both are going to drop at a particularly busy time of year for me!

Hoping that holds true and we get the Apache on Thursday!

Don't know what I am going to do if IL-2 update with new sky drops on same day.
