SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 -snip- Cool but when can I shoot a Stearman down with an F-22?
ZachariasX Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Cool but when can I shoot a Stearman down with an F-22? In the mood for team killing, are we? ^^
BeastyBaiter Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 It wouldn't be team killing in DCS, the community there decided years ago that both teams should be able to fly anything they want, including planes from the other side.
Gambit21 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Cool but when can I shoot a Stearman down with an F-22? They wouldn't do that silly - the F-22 and Stearman are on the same side. The F-22 is being released with the Fokker DVII-F and the Antarctica map. 2
CanadaOne Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 SR-71 should come first - I need something to intercept in my mix of 40's, 50's and 90's aircraft. Used to fly the SR-71 in FSX (or FS9, not sure) and it was a riot. I'd buy a DCS Blackbird.
Gambit21 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 ...and at the rate they're going you may very well get the opportunity to buy it.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) Cool but when can I shoot a Stearman down with an F-22? In two weeks, be sure! Sorry SG I had to, most missed what you were saying I think. Edited April 20, 2017 by 1./KG4_Blackwolf
Feathered_IV Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Used to fly the SR-71 in FSX (or FS9, not sure) and it was a riot. I'd buy a DCS Blackbird. You'd be flying in circles on those little maps.
Gambit21 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 In two weeks, be sure! Sorry SG I had to, most missed what you were saying I think. Not really - maybe one.
CanadaOne Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 You'd be flying in circles on those little maps. I'd just fly straight up and keep going.
JG4_Sputnik Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Hmm. Rata I-16 in the making? https://www.facebook.com/OctopusG-1475030196055201/?fref=ts
bzc3lk Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) Found a little f18 Hornet teaser picture on the DCS: Normandy 1944 Map video at the -5.49 minute mark. The picture only flashes up for a split second (subliminal advertising),so can be missed easily. https://www.facebook.com/eagle.dynamics/videos/10158646542255341/ Edited April 24, 2017 by bzc3lk

Scojo Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Has been for a while now. It's one of the planes I might buy, even if there's nothing for it to do. I'm sure Ghost will be here in a bit to tell you what all you can do in DCS with that aircraft
Dutchvdm Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I'm sure Ghost will be here in a bit to tell you what all you can do in DCS with that aircraft You can make fun of that all you want, but in the end it is pretty silly... Grt M
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) I'm sure Ghost will be here in a bit to tell you what all you can do in DCS with that aircraft The I-16 is incredibly effective at dodging 2nd-3rd Gen SAM missiles and can outmaneuver an F-5-E at sea level. It has an incredibly low radar cross section but it relies on full-visual/full-manual IFF. A2G rockets are effective against 3rd Gen battle tanks like the M1 Abrams and older 2nd Gen hardware like the T-72. You may have a little trouble catching up to an SR-72 at altitude but it is surprisingly effective at intercepting the UH-1 and civilian passenger trains. Also, Fink... Don't encourage them... Dutchvdm Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Make fun of what? Ghost? I'm not. I enjoy his commentary on the subject. That's why I mentioned him lol I meant the fact there will be not much to do with those kind of planes. Ghosts comments are funny, but in the end it's a bit sad that in a couple of months or years you will be able to buy a I-16 for DCS to fly on a 1944 Normandy map. Why would one ask?.... Grt M 1

Just remember, for the most part, don't turn inside of the I-16 in your SR-71...that's just stupid. 1
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Just remember, for the most part, don't turn inside of the I-16 in your SR-71...that's just stupid. ALTITUDE. ALTITUDE. ALTITUDE.
Silver_Dragon Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 To the WW2 Kickstarted Backers. Normandy map and Assets pack keys available on the Backers page (if reach the necessary pledge). https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/backer/ some rumours of a close alpha previous to the alpha release late May
AndyJWest Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Since I can't persuade my ISP to download rumours, I,ll leave it for now...
Jade_Monkey Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Hmm. Rata I-16 in the making? https://www.facebook.com/OctopusG-1475030196055201/?fref=ts DCS is such a disjointed product, it's a bit absurd. I'm having a blast with the Huey and the Mig 15bis in VR though. It would be cool if they could do a Vietnam map with the phantom etc
BeastyBaiter Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Not sure how Vietnam would make it any less disjoint. There isn't a single aircraft in the game that served in the Vietnam war nor are there any planned that I'm aware of.
Finkeren Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M759HtC5RaU And then they claim, that the Soviet fighters in BoX are overmodeled...
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Mig 15 MiG-15, MiG-21 and P-51 are my favorite modules with the first two being absolutely marvelous. Shame with first one there is little to do and second one is a cannon fodder for more modern jets high or F5Es down low. That leaves Mustang to play around.
Feathered_IV Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Its not everyday you see something moving quickly in DCS WW2. 1
CanadaOne Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 have it a DCS is such a disjointed product, it's a bit absurd. Mmmmm... yeah, maybe. But is does allow people to pick and choose between a variety of very cool aircraft to fly with some pretty sweet eye-candy. I'd drop the cash tomorrow if they put out an F-104, whether it is armed or not. I just want the flightsim experience. I miss my old MSFS F-104. It was great fun, but to have it at DCS level... Yeah baby!
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I want to be excited for DCS but I'm not sure if that's even physically possible anymore. I guess you could say that ED gave me... ED...
Urra Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I want to be excited for DCS but I'm not sure if that's even physically possible anymore. I guess you could say that ED gave me... ED... Maybe if we get a "hello kitten" skin on the aircraft?
Scojo Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 So on MP servers there's no way for the host to restrict what planes are available for players to fly? How are missions for the WWII aircraft in the game?
JG4_Sputnik Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) And some Germans over Normandie With Bomber formations. Original Video is on Facebook. Edited April 25, 2017 by JG4_Sputnik
Finkeren Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 The bomber formation looks nice enough, but the comment that it "runs pretty smooth with 15 planes in the air" seems strange. These are simplified DCS AI, right? Should it really be an issue to have 15 of them on the screen at one time? How are people supposed to create the dozens-strong formations of B-17s?

How many could you create in IL-2? It's not surprising that DCS Normandy wouldn't be very optimized at this point
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Maybe if we get a "hello kitten" skin on the aircraft? An F117-A with a Hello Kitty skin may be the trick. Do you think the skin increases radar signature? How many could you create in IL-2? It's not surprising that DCS Normandy wouldn't be very optimized at this point Which IL-2? When I flew with ACG we were escorting dozens of bombers over the channel at a time.
ACG_Invictus Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Flanders over Normandy? That's a whole new level of Russian Bias. *grin*
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) Sorry. BoSBoMBoK That being said, DCS formations are on par with BOX if not a little better. At least from what I gather - I've never cracked open the ME and put 30-40 He 111's in the air. Edited April 25, 2017 by Space_Ghost
