She's a beauty that's for sure... and it's one of the best WWII cockpits in any sim I've seen, along with the P-47.

Posted

Yeah. Won't have chance to test it for a while. Not really sure I buy it after all. Looks stunning. But won't use it for other things than just flight

Posted

I see that the DCS mossie engines are modelled as cutting out under negative G. Is this right? It seems weird that they wouldn't apply the fix they did to fighter Merlins to the FB version of the Mosquito...

Posted

Anyone know how long before general release... not sure I can get two copies of the game on my HD with open beta.

Posted (edited)

I must say DCS has come along in leaps and bounds since I last used it, which is a fair while. I bought everything they put out up until just before the Mirage 2000 came out or thereabouts so it's about 7 or 8 years :)

I must say looking at the recent stuff I am sorely tempted to load it up again.

From what I've seen that's not how they did it back in the day, even the crews on the movie 633 Sqn landed on the main wheels and rolled out. I also seem to rember an interview with the Battle of Britain mamorial flight who had problems withlanding their Lancaster unntil a veteran pilot told them not to 3 point it.

I know, all videos of Mossies landing show them two-pointing and then flying down the tail.

I've never seen the reason why to do so in any airplane (including real life*) - just plant the damn thing and keep it straight.

The Mustang manual says 3 point, but the pilots couldn't see for crap doing it that way so they 2-pointed it.  :)

Very nice Kev!

By the way it wasn't until the 1:30 mark that you began flying it correctly. :P

Remember kids, if you're not getting tree scuff marks on the belly, you're doing it wrong!

Mossie and Channel map downloading later after we're done watching a few things etc.

Damn...I really thought I was done until the F-4U arrived...but I'm back on the Mossie train it seems after letting my jets cool on it with BoX.

Gears are turning...Pay Pal account getting light.

How does it go..."any landing you can walk away from...or in my case any landing not counted as a write off by the TAW server...:)

Why not is a good question, after all they did manage to deck land a MK.VI, even although it had hotter engines, 4 bladed props and slightly beefed up fuselage to hold the arrestor gear in, they still had to 3 point it to snag a wire.

____

*You'd need to be pretty sharp to 3 point a modern glider with it's single wheel  or are you really, really, really old school?

Mosquito is quite a bird. Sounds are excellent, cockpit is gorgeous. The plane looks fabulous! Very sensitive pitch, even I am using an extension on the stick. Need more training, tweaking and flying :)

Even with a VKB Gunfighter MkIII with a 200mm extension I have a curve of 25 dialed in. I have put maybe 8 hours in flying her and I can say that this a first rate module. Now if my Trim Panel from GVL will just arive, I will put it to very good use in my Mossie.:popcorm:

Just being an annoyance to the people of the Greater Manston area.

275mph on the deck with 7 / 2650 in clean is quite quick.

Full stereo (with wingracks) I had her at 320mph in the weeds.

Mossie's nice, the map's a bit iffy though. Plenty of late 20th-century stuff on it. Not just small things either.

They've finally got around to fixing the slow throttle response in the Hornet. Makes landing a whole lot easier. ?

The Apache is going to end up in the same category as most modules with me. Would love to already know it and be able to fly it operationally. In reality do I have time to learn it? No.

I think I’m going to be settling in with the Mosquito, the F-14, and a bit of Viper now and then for goofing off.

Later on, the F-4U.

That’s just where I’m at.

I’ve been very wishy-washy with my build plans, but that’s because I keep figuring things out and arriving at new conclusions. There’s been a few big ones.  Also I now know the editor - 95% anyway. So - new “so long as LIFE doesn’t intervene” plan underway.

How dare you shooting an aircraft wearing a skin created by me ?

On a more serious note - nice! Haven't had much time in the Mossie yet but must bei hard to get air kills with it.

The Mosquito is quite a work of art - excellent job on this aircraft.

She’s a beauty.

Channel map could stand a few more German occupied airfields/area of detail expanded in France. It doesn’t quite feel cramped - but close. Very nice map however.

Just sitting in it, starting up the engines and not even going anywhere was pretty damn good.
