Well I’m glad you’ve discovered the actual, proper use of Russian choppers. ?

I’m wondering if the air-cushion/downwash physics works for the raised platforms?

The groundeffect work as normal. And you loose half of it if half the rotor is outside

Same with helipad on tall houses

It is the best helicopter physics out there. Xplane is in my mind not even close. Tho having other advantages. Except cheap eyecandy.

I always heard about the Korea 1952 server but had never tried it out. I decided to check it out after seeing a lot of chatter about it and found out that the server is under new ownership and they are investing a lot of resources into the server. They have weekly events every saturday, the last one I joined had 20+ people on it on comms. Was very fun.

In DCS, is there a way to fly a B-17 or a B-25?

Unfortunately not. As far as I know, it's not planned either.

Ok. Thank you.

I was considering having a look on DCS and try it, but it seems that it would not compensate IL2 for some aspects

I use DCS for the jets and choppers, IL-2 for my WWII fix. I also have Flying Circus for WWI stuff whenever I can find time to get into it.

If you want to try any of DCS they have a new 2 week free to play program available.

Seems nicely juicy.

Sadly, I am in vacation and AFK...

Can you tell me if there is a WWII bomber flyable in this game? And which one?

There’ll be a mosquito shortly.

The bomber one?

Yep, it seems like to be an attack version, not the bubble nose one.

Sounds like a race between DCS and IL-2...

I'm fairly sure that the DCS Mosquito will be a FB Mk. VI, like the IL-2 GB one. The DCS page linked above confusingly refers to it as a FB Mk. IV in the title, and a Mk VI in the text. I don't think there ever was a Mosquito FB Mk. IV.

Most of the dcs output gets the nomenclature correct as FB Mk VI TBF (To Be Fair" - almost created a  torpedo carrying sub variant there...).

Yeah, I checked and it only seems to be that page they got wrong. Well, that and the external model they had to remake because the boss didn't like it... ?

For all its "WTFs" and "Mehs", since packing up my gear in favour of using the space for amps n geetars, I miss it. Hopefully the current situation in the availability/price of hardware wont last (who am I kidding) or at least the hardware progresses so that I dont require HAL to play at 1080P and I can think of a way to streamline the  tonne or so of outboard gear I was using into something I can actually pack away.

For now I get my fix creating "living" FOBs and airfields - its kinda like a virtual model railway and oddly cathartic...

If only the Boss felt that way about the AI naval air assets in the game......you can origami a higher fidelity S3.

I don't think they are supposed to be real S3s at all. They are dummy inflatable ones made to trick enemy spy satellites. ?

Ah.....this would explain why all the AI helos appear to sink 5 inches into the deck - under inflation!

Every time I dropped one of the old M818 trucks into a scene I imagined someone in a sleeveless woolen sweater and plus fours, rolling it over,  picking it up and carrying it off...... In the end I used to hide them out of view....I knew they were there and that was enough.

Well the only difference I see is that the little “I” thingy is in front of the little “V” thingy instead of behind it...so looks like basically the same aircraft from where I sit. ?

By the way everyone I need help - I’m starting to get excited about the Apache...and it was on my “eh...no...who has time for that” list just a few days ago. I have all kinds of armed recon and FARP ideas.

I have a TM airbus throttle which I quite like (and makes a good collective) but I’m a bit short on buttons for the Apache. Might have to incorporate my X-Box controller which I only used for Assetto Corsa for a minute.

Install joystick gremlin. See if it recognize the controller. If it do. Your good to go.

Thanks, but not to fly the helo - just for a few added buttons etc.

In another fine display of my skills as a naval aviator, I manage to cluster-bomb myself. ?

Desktop-Screenshot-2021-08-03-06-01-30-7

As far as I could tell, nothing serious was damaged internally, and the holes didn't seem to be affecting the controls, so I hit the big yellow button, and headed off back to the ship.

My landing wasn't the most elegant, though that was probably mostly down to nerves. I expect the man in the fancy hat will want another word...

I'd videoed the escapade, and could figure out what happened when I checked later, though it was fairly obvious anyway - released below safe altitude.

I just found out the other day that you can mount any of there joysticks to the collective,  rather than a bespoke collective handle, thinking the left handed constellation would be perfect combo.

Seriously tempted to spend some of my summer bonus on that, what with the kiowa and apache coming soon....

I reached a new milestone for myself today. Finally after gosh knows how many hours spent this year in learning the Hornet, I can finally get through the cold start routine without needing to reference the start up procedure.

This is probably nothing for most folks, but for me it is a big accomplishment as unfortunately I now have memory problems and getting to this point was indeed a big deal for me.

It is a big deal.

In special since you learned weaponsystems too. I have no patience but I now sit and consider giving A 10 a go.

Hind was as expected not that interesting when it come to systems. It just feel like that stubborn ill brought up snob brother of the nice MI 8.

Apache seems to me being a bit too much for me.  So I think I go in depth on the A 10 for god knows how many attempts

Yeah Hornet weapons systems can be somewhat complex, but once you learn how to use them they are a blast for ground pounding.

I am loving the newer ATFLIR targeting pod. Give me that pod combined with some IR Mav AGM 65F's and I am in ground pounding heaven.

Air to air not so much - radar can be difficult at times but I am sure it has more to do with my needing to learn more on that aspect of it like the different acquisition modes.

I have a video format where I invite three people to comment on the same dogfight. I brought this format from IL-2 into DCS.  The fight is from the Korea '52 server and found some pilots who primarily fly the Mig-15 vs F-86 Match up.

Thinking about trying to tackle this Dynamic Campaign for the Hornet after I finish Rise of the Persian Lion.

Operation Pontus though may still be a little above my pay grade...

Ok so whilst I am waiting for ED to push out a fix for the Hornet Rise of the Persian Lion campaign, rather than starting a different one, I think I am going to go ahead and start setting up the controls and do some training in the Viper. As much as I like carrier ops, at least I will still have the Hornet for that.

I was tempted by the Tomcat ( I have it also), I think the Viper will be a good choice for the next jet for me to learn as it shares some of the same systems and weapons I think as the Hornet. Looks like it will have good agility in ACM and also good ground pounding abilities. I love me some good ground pounding missions.

I also have to get back to some good PWCG campaign flying in the Spit Mk XIV so will take this opportunity for it as well.

Yeah they do have some awesome trailers. I have a few bookmarked and when getting ready to spend a day flying in combat with the Hornet I will watch one or two to set the mood.
