Clearly never sat in any of the warbirds in real life! They look way better in VR, which is all I play. DCS is very monochrome and grainy in vr. Maybe they look better in 2d. Fwiw, I can tell they are more detailed in terms of 3d modeling, but IL-2 still is excellent in that regard. The 2d videos and screenshots posted in here are photorealistic, but in vr it just doesn't look nearly as good as even IL-2. A lot of that I think is due to artifacts, aliasing, and generally poor performance...I need to upgrade my pc for sure. Edited July 1, 2021 by =AW=drewm3i-VR
Gambit21 Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Looks great Kev! Not sure my 1080 would look so smooth down low on high settings. Making me want my new GPU even more - light at the end of the tunnel on that one.

By the time new gen gpu's become highly available maybe multi-threading and vulcan api support aimed for Q3/Q4 2021 will help. I for one am hoping it will make Channel map more playable in VR
dburne Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) Well after a bit of time away I loaded up the Hornet again and started re-flying a campaign I particularly liked. Just had a mission to destroy 4 SAM sites at two locations with AGM 65e Mavericks using JTAC to lase the targets. Two different JTACS at two locations. I was very pleased in that I successfully completed that mission without having to reference anything. Nice to be able to remember what all I needed to do. Oh and also got the call to take out some enemy soldiers that were harassing our troops with my guns on the return trip, great fun. Made it back to the Harry Truman for a successful Case III carrier trap. So satisfying. I so very much love carrier ops. Edited July 2, 2021 by dburne 3

I have noticed, DCS-VRneeds a more powerful system than BOS-VR, while so much that can be adjusted in DCS and so much mods that can helpful to fit in taste of view. But yep, thanks to a modder Oyster & ICPD the IL2 cockpits and planes wings are finally looking good in VR, admitting even better then in DCS WW2 planes, a bit of a shame that 1C did not do this right from the start. But overall I was very impressed by DCS eye candy in VR, first flight, no adjustments being done and woow, beautiful terrain, no dancing trees, no ugly clouds/skydome and only a few jaggies & shimmer. Pity the visual damage on the plane wings are the same black 2D ink spots as in BOS. ? I do not want to start an discussion on DSC vs BOS, because simply you can test this all by your self https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/ 1. Do the game registration. 2. Download the DCS World 2.7 3. click on the free to play, and select which plane/terrain you wanting to try. Be prepared its a complex combat flysim that also needs a beefy computer if wanting to go for VR, so have patience. Edited July 3, 2021 by Dutch2 1

Not best VR out there. But Depending on what plane DCS got much more detailed cockpits. More lifelike texture. Not saying you are wrong nor GB is bad. But we might talk personally taste here. I have not seen any sim up to the standard set by the Tomcat yet 1

Congrats on the Huey. I hope choppers one day will be your favorite choice. People think of it like a death trap. But for civilian task and single player the challenge is endless.

Guest deleted@83466 Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 (edited) Got the chance to fly the Mi-24 around a little more. Man, that is a lot different than I expected. I assumed that if I’m good in the Mi-8, I’ll probably fit right in to the other, like it’s nothin’. I’ve been following the trim/ap threads on the forums over there, and am 90% sure that there shouldn’t be any interaction between those two systems at all, and that the trim is buggy. Even taking that into account, for my poor flying, I’m still amazed at how -heavy- this helicopter feels. I hadn’t flown any copters in a few months, so I had to do a sanity check in the Mi-8 to see if my helicopter skills had deteriorated so much. While I probably am indeed going senile, to my relief, I was throwing the Mi-8 around like I was flying some light training helicopter, skid it to a quick stop, doing well transitioning to a quick hover, and all those kinds of helicoptery things...by comparison to the Hind, which I’m sometimes losing control of! Yeah, I know, it’s only been out 2 weeks, right? This is going to be a good one, I just hope it doesn’t take 3 years to go from here to completion. ? Edited July 4, 2021 by SeaSerpent
DD_fruitbat Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 Some more scenic flying (what's wrong with me, lol), 1
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 I really wanted to fly and like the Huey. I have the Hind and enjoy it but Mi-8 is my favourite heli. Only heli that I can control enough that I don't crash at every landing. It has so much power, take offs , flying and landings are a pure pleasure. Video is from UN Pilot campaign for Huey, modified so I can fly Mi-8. Very cool free campaign, I am 5 missions in and I like it a lot. Caucasus map is actually quite pretty. No combat so far and I am glad, landing in tight spots or even helipad is still a great challenge. I got the Mi-8 on 2 weeks free trial and I fell in love with it. Bought it and never regretted it. Very smart move from ED allowing us to test the modules. I already had the Huey and Hind and Mi-8 did not appeal to me at all until I tested it. No stunts, just some pretty sights. Makes for much more relaxed evenings than getting shot down in IL-2's online servers
Guest deleted@83466 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Totally agree on Mi-8. It’s 7 or 8 years old now, and I still think it ranks right up there with the top simulations they’ve ever produced to date. If I were on a deserted island and could only have one DCS module, that might be it. If there were future revisions to it, multi-crew would be an obvious number one, but second, a revision to its damage model. It seems almost unbelievably fragile in the face of even long range small arms fire. The UH-1 seems to me to be a tank by comparison, and I find that hard to believe. Even so, I’d have to rank it as my favorite module. Ka-50 would be a close second.
Lusekofte Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I like MI 8 best of all. It is a challenge after all these years. I wish for more campaigns for it. In special I loved the oil field campaign.

It’s a bit of a built-in limitation.

Gambit21 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Well...I'm in love...dammit. No time for this right now...back to the mission build. I'm definitely going to work this girl into my little ongoing theater though...somehow. 2
DD_fruitbat Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 (edited) How many rotors have you separated from the mast so far?? Maybe that was just me when I first started flying it! Edited July 5, 2021 by DD_fruitbat

Start it up and fly it? I daren't! For if I do I'll get nothing else done today. I need to watch some Viper tuts, then when I get a handle on reliably setting my my bomb interval then I'll reward myself with a bit of Huey time perhaps.
AndyJWest Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Getting nothing else done isn't a legitimate reason not to fly the Huey. In fact, I can't think of one. Come to think of it, why am I posting here, rather than flying the Huey? I clearly have my priorities all wrong... 1 3 1
Gambit21 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I knew I liked you Andy. P.S. Note to self, bombing is easier it turns out, when you’re not confusing CCRP with CCIP. 1
Lusekofte Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I like the huey but it is hard work if one use self centering stick. Liked it better without . Am I doing something wrong? A trim I do not know about? Anyway for short mission. A first choice module 11 hours ago, Gambit21 said: Well...I'm in love...dammit. No time for this right now...back to the mission build. Robli Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I also like Huey a lot. A joy to fly and simple enough to remember. After spending some hours in Mi-24 and trying to understand why it does not want to obey me, going back to Huey is a real pleasure.
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I can't stop Huey from oscilating and it's annoying. No such problems in Hind or Hip even with autopilot off. DCS mission editor is like a game within a game ;). Never had the will to learn the editor in IL-2 but in DCS I am able to create simple missions and edit other user's missions to my liking without any tutorials. Scripted campaigns for DCS can be edited to be flyable with other aircrafts in no time. Such a great tool. There are even dynamic campaigns available.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 (edited) I had a really hard time being able to hover in any copter, especially the Huey, until I got a joystick extension. Before that, no matter how much I practiced, or tried to tweak the response curves, I just wasn’t achieving the precision to do certain basic helicopter things. A more powerful gaming computer, including a G-Sync monitor, really helped a lot too, because without the good framerates, and enhanced fluidity, my muscle memory just wasn’t in sync with the helicopter. I’m pretty confident in my virtual helicopter skills nowadays, but I owned the UH-1 and Mi-8 for years, where my abilities with them were almost embarrassing relative to the amount of time I’d spent trying to get better. The only helicopter I don’t have is the Gazelle. I’ve tried it during one of the Free-To-Play periods, and it just feels bizarre compared to everything else. Just didn’t resonate with me. But taking time with it you can do aerobatic with it inside a hangar. It is so redponsive that you need to get a real good feel what going to happen next microsecond. I had quite a lot fun with it. Now my collective have a stutter and it make it impossible to fly Gazelle with. Huey is hard too now. Ordered the Virpil collective. Then going to change the broken sensor when time allowe
