DBFlyguy Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Kiowa too, it'll be my first DCS helicopter purchase. Polychop is understandably taking their time on it as they got a lot of crap for the Gazelle so releasing a complete or near complete module is probably in their best interest. It is looking great though! Edited May 12, 2021 by DBFlyguy 2 1

No time for that - but looks cool. That's just a modern rotary-wing aircraft with a semi-glass cockpit with one single difference. That being that you have one cat flying it, another operating the sensors and weapons systems, with the difference being that they're combined into the same flight deck. It might look overwhelming but it isn't. I have a special place in my heart for the pilots and the aircraft. They provided CAS for us on multiple occasions during my numerous deployments and put themselves in extreme jeopardy more times than I can count. These guys would even purposely draw fire to take attention away from us during complex ambushes. When we called, they always showed up, even if they were minimums on fuel. F&%kin' hard chargers all. EDIT - On a side not the Army dumped (retired) the Kiowa and realized they made a huge mistake by doing so only after they shitcanned all of them. Officers.... Edited May 12, 2021 by DetCord12B 1 2

Robli Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Kiowa is interesting, but I just wonder if it would be too similar experience to Huey that I already have. Helicopters are secondary side step fun for me, compared to fixed wing aircraft, but I have thought of getting another one in addition to Huey. Mi-8 seems too multi-crew for me, Apache is very interesting, but seems to be too complex for side step fun, so my top candidate right now is Hind. I have "almost" bought it a couple of times, but have postponed it for now, as there is no chance to fly it before July anyway. 1

Yeah, I plan on eventually getting the Apache too but not until its been out for a few months/years and the development is near complete/complete.
Bremspropeller Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' background music intensifies... Going in for some CAS close to Hué - the RNZAF skin is historical for bombing the VC in the Caucasus... Different server - just after taking off from a FARP - this Scooter struggles to stay airborne. A 'Fagot' from Tanzania. A soviet 'Farmer' scrambling to check out an intruder. One has to be careful not to lose the tanks by pulling excessive g or by rolling too quickly. - Comrade Mikoyan, how much sweep angle do you want on the new fighter? - Yes. Slowly gaining altitude. Trying not to use the burner. Turns out the intruder was a visitor from the future... 1 1

DD_fruitbat Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Everything still looks great with the new clouds.... F16 vs 4 Mig 21's over Iran, And some more screenies.... 4
Feathered_IV Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Looks amazing. Best looking lighting and clouds i think I’ve ever seen. 1
SYN_Vander Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) While testing a mission in DCS I suddenly remembered a great feature: To be able to jump into an AI plane, even while it is in mid-air by pressing ALT-J. So the mission is not over when you crash, just take over the plane of your wingman! It reminds me of Rowan's 'Overlord' from 1994 (I still have the manual LOL) Edited May 14, 2021 by SYN_Vander 2 2
Bremspropeller Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Mariannas map is close to release in Open Beta says ED's Facebook site. Probablyy next wednesday?

I also took the old farmer for a few rounds on Sunday. Love that sinister cold War look it has from some angles. I went up against some Turkish F-5's on the Syria map. Hard fight but lot of fun and very beautiful scenery, with this new clouds. 6 hours ago, Feathered_IV said: Looks amazing. Best looking lighting and clouds i think I’ve ever seen Agree! DBFlyguy Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Pretty interesting story posted by The Drive about DCS A-10C: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/40620/a-10-warthog-pilots-are-using-the-digital-combat-simulator-video-game-to-train-in-vr Oh and this incredibly well done video was posted on the DCS Facebook page? 2
DD_fruitbat Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Some pics a video from a co-op we flew on Thursday night, 5 of us, 2 P-51's and 3 Spitfires, Have to excuse my crap landing at the end, its been a while since I flew the spitfire!!!! And fantastic news about the Marianas map, I didn't think that was any near as close as it sounds like it is. Also, looks like a Mig 17 for next year Quote Mig-17F Presentation from Red Star Simulation. Mig-17F is expected to be available for consumers in 2022. 3 3

Gambit21 Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Rumbler 201, Low level ingress training mission, Turkey, northeast of Incirlik after arriving station - custom skins to come later. These will be BDU-45 practice bombs by release time, assuming they become available as planned. For now we'll stick with the Snakeyes. Oh, and first trap. Well...4 bolters then a trap - 4 wire. Not pretty...but I didn't die and didn't wreck the jet. DLC plus throttle, plus lining up side to side is a lot to think about - helmet fire. 1 1

Bremspropeller Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Now if that Thud came with an actual cockpit (like the A-4 does), that would be awsome! Just had my MiG-21 at Mach 2.2 yesterday. Then the engine died. Probably because the shock-cone wouldn't go any farther out.... Great airplane - I wish we had more, earlier MiG-21s (F-13, PF or PFM and a twin-seater) or at least the chinese copy/ development. Like an F-7PG with double-delta wings, leading-edge devices and four pylons. Some of the latest F-7G derivatives do even have a fire-control radar (range about 30km) in that tiny original MiG-21F nose-cone. 1
Bremspropeller Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Does anybody know how to jettison the CL tank on the Balalaika?
Gambit21 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) "On the flight deck, aircrews are manning up for the 08:20 launch. The temperature is 62 degrees, the altimeter is 28.92. It's time for all unnecessary personnel to clear the catwalks and the flight deck. All flight deck personnel get into the complete and proper flight deck uniform. Helmet on and strapped, sleeves down, goggles down. Check all chocks, tie-downs and loose gear about the deck. Check your pockets for FOD, check all rotor clearances and prop-arcs. Start all go aircraft for the 08:30 launch...welcome to the Med START EM UP!" Yep, first custom sound file up and running. Air Boss. Having fun with the editor, (wow, fun in an editor...can't remember last time that happened) no flying tonight. Edited May 19, 2021 by Gambit21 5

IIRC there's a pinky button on the stick, somewhere near the brake handle. Not seen easily or clickable I think because of this location. It's under "Drop center fuel pod" command in control options. 1
DBFlyguy Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Didn't know Nineline had a youtube channel too, looks like they are slowly updating their DM as well:

(I need a bit more practice) Mostly though because my wife is already in Zone 4 annoyance with my computer time this past week. ? Saturdays in general are off the table for me (ongoing commitment) I snuck in a bit of Viper time last night though. Started her up, took off, got her back down (barely) I’m smitten for sure. 1 1
