Jade_Monkey Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Not planning on buying DCS WWII but having the south of England and AI bombers is a good idea. Available "soon" smh
Finkeren Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 The towns on that map look awesome. Can't help but being a little underwhelmed by the way the B-17 looks in-game. The aluminium surfaces look okay-ish, but nothing like what was teased in the WIP shots of the 3D model.
Gambit21 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Well I think I pointed it out before, and explained a bit about reflections - but that early shot was a render in the 3D program/Max with global illumination and and HDRI map. So those reflections were due to actually simulated photons bouncing around. It couldn't look like that in-game unless the reflections were faked and static. I believe I brought this up in relation to the Spitfire shots.
Urra Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 No clouds in any of the shots. They still using the old ones? They old ones are annoying on a monitor, but in vr you honestly don't care anymore.
MiloMorai Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Another ingameshot Must be forming up as formation should look like this, and
Feathered_IV Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Boy, they really need some appropriate German aircraft to go with that.
Gambit21 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Boy, they really need some appropriate German aircraft to go with that. If they stick with their current model - DCS F-104G
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 If they stick with their current model - DCS F-104G DCS: TIE Fighter 2
Finkeren Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 DCS: TIE Fighter Is the TIE fighter German? I mean, I get that it's grey-black and evil, but the Empire guys always struck me as having distinctly posh British accents.
Feathered_IV Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Fly the latest thrilling DLC on a what-if 1944 campaign featuring the new Normandy map and the soon to be released, Se5a beta... 3

Finkeren Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 The Imperial March to go with a video of an X-Wing? Blasphemy! 2
Gambit21 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Fly the latest thrilling DLC on a what-if 1944 campaign featuring the new Normandy map and the soon to be released, Se5a beta... That will perfectly compliment the DCS SR-71 and DCS Nieuport 28 combo pack - my mind is already racing with mission possibilities pairing these two classic adversaries. Also - to think we get to flay all these aircraft over Nevada...heart of mine be still. 3
Danziger Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Don't forget the DLC campaign where the Mirage 2000C flies so fast it goes back in time to the Caucasus 2008 and has to fight against the 109K4 that was sucked through the same portal from WW2 and now the two pilots from different eras meet on some futuristic battlefield in the middle of an oil war. 1
ZachariasX Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Is the TIE fighter German? I mean, I get that it's grey-black and evil, but the Empire guys always struck me as having distinctly posh British accents. Germans are by far the best evil guys. You never watched James Bond movies? If the Death Star was British, it could make tea as well. Besides, Senator Palpatine kinda looks like Willy Messerschmitt.
Gambit21 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Empire could not be more "1940's German" Look at the mass gather/speach in Episode 7 no less. Just doubling down on the Nazi theme.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Digital Combat Sandbox -snip- Modern tanks in 40's France or vintage warbirds in 90's Balkans - all the same and the most glaring issue DCS has... No cohesiveness. 1
Gambit21 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Digital Combat Sandbox The great thing about a sand box is that you can throw any ol thing in there you want whether it matches the other stuff or not. Not sure that's working in the case of DCS. I've had the Dora for what is now years and a cohesive and functioning theater is nowhere in sight. It will take more than a map and 5 planes and a Tiger. I suppose I could get the Heuy with no Vietnam, or the MiG 15 with no Korea... If you total up the man-hours that have been poured into disparate DCS projects...you could have one hell of a product if only those resources had been sensibly focused. As it stands it's a bit of a cluster F. 2
Solty Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Modern tanks in 40's France or vintage warbirds in 90's Balkans - all the same and the most glaring issue DCS has... No cohesiveness. Its because many people asked them all over the forum "Will jets work with Normandy?" "Can I play with modern units on the normandy map?". So thats their response. Although I think the biggest issue is that they do not acknowlage how long it takes them to make anything.
Lusekofte Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I goot all the modules, but they are not interesting me in great degree , AI bombers do not help. The JU 87 is in my mind just not up for the task in Normandie. That is if it ever will be finished. I use DCS for Helicopters and some SU 25 action , I have no time to do much more
JG5_Zesphr Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 it also depends on what they have. They can't do any Russian stuff as they have to really push to get clearance for even 3.5 gen fighters. To throw my opinion in, I think DCS is the best sim out there. The FMs, DMs and realism is second to none for each module once it's out of beta (excluding some FC3 a/c). You must remember that DCS is based on FC3 and most of the other aircraft out side of the modern era are 3rd party with the exception of ww2 which ED as well (however they are making this a full part of the game with it's own map etc). So the inconsistent eras is not really their fault because why would they turn down an opportunity to put more products and revenue? I agree they have not made the best decisions like I personally don't get why they added Nevada over Vietnam or the Korean war, however, to bash them for showing the community what they wanted and claim a comprehensive theatre is nowhere in sight when there obviously is one on the way is a bit far fetched.
Feathered_IV Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 ... to claim a comprehensive theatre is nowhere in sight when there obviously is one on the way is a bit far fetched. A map is certainly on the on the way, however a comprehensive theatre as you say is indeed nowhere in sight. Even if they were making the correct aircraft for it right now, which they are not. It would still take years for any of it to come to fruition.

Guest deleted@1562 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 ... The FMs, DMs and realism is second to none ... I concur on the FM, everything else not. i.e. DM is now completely geared towards modern missile combat. AI flies without any restrictions until they run out of hitpoints. IL2 and CloD do it much better. AI sees through clouds, buildings, trees, fires through clouds and trees. IL2: 1946 doesn't do that. ATC is pretty stupid, Falcon4 is doing much better here. Still DCS is a nice sim and I like to fly around in it, but for combat I prefer IL2:BoX.
Gambit21 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 ... and claim a comprehensive theatre is nowhere in sight when there obviously is one on the way is a bit far fetched. No it isn't
JG5_Zesphr Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 No it isn't Well it sort of is when you have a massive map, plenty of targets and what will be an only increasing number of aircraft.
Gambit21 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Well it sort of is when you have a massive map, plenty of targets and what will be an only increasing number of aircraft. I get what you're saying, but I'm talking about a cohesive collection of things that match/are contemporaries and appropriate for the time period. Including map, vehicles, tanks, aircraft, static objects. We're a long ways from seeing that.
Finkeren Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 except all the aircraft and AI are all with in a few months post D-day at least... Bf 109K4 entered service in October 1944 IIRC, that's 4 months after Overlord. Air combat over Normandy had long since ceised.
Lusekofte Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I fly DCS more because of the offline possibilities , online you get hunted down by super pilots from miles away in F 15 that blast you out of the skies before you even knew there where others around. I say it is even worse than gameplay in WT . I do think the game engine make a lot of things better in DCS like choppers and jet. I think however DM and FM in props are better in BOS and COD , all in different ways. But not at all in other ways, you can't compare them as a package, there is always something that is better elsewhere 1
Blutaar Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Do you guys think that DCS WW2 will get controllable groundforces like combined arms? I kinda like combined arms, not so much that i play it often but the possiblity is nice, imagine that style in IL2 where players can have kind of a strategy game on the ground.

Your great great great grandchildren might play such. 1
Blutaar Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 That is a beautiful screenshot, this map looks superb and cant wait to see it ingame.
