Lusekofte Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) DCS customers are giving just as much or more crap to their developers as here. Collect all negativity on this board and multiply it with 20. There are complaints about getting the F 16 the Hornet is finished, why this and that is broken after each pack. Liking DCS is a hard core struggle, sometimes you need to look long and hard to find positive things in the heap of frustration. Still their servers got more people than GB. And that should be possible for GB to take advantage of. In special now when Bodenplatte is soon to be finished. Edited October 17, 2019 by LuseKofte

LLv34_Flanker Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 S! Flying the WW2 campaigns by Reflected. Fun ones and with DCS systems modelling a challenge too. Landed after a sortie where Ponies were strafing the field. A hangar on fire while my K-4 leaked fuel fumes...
simfan2015 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 @LLv34_Flanker... I like comparing the WWII implementation and planes in DCS vs IL-2 ... both different, both superb.
Archie Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 Just picked up a couple of Reflected's campaigns during the sale (and the 190 A8 and finally, KA-50) looking forward to giving them a go.

PicksKing Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 The timing was almost perfect. Flight Simulator 2020 was announced with ingame footage of really awesome clouds. And now: Il-2 devs: "Oh look, we have better clouds now!" DCS devs: "Oh look, we have better clouds now!" Nice to see that competition works. 1

Yeah, the Eagle Guy is very adamant about shaking his head all the time in disaproval of something. It may be very well a medical condition. Or just DCS things: Trains in DCS are really really finicki: Edited October 22, 2019 by Monostripezebra

LLv34_Flanker Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 S! A new Stable update up with adjusted Fw190A and D cockpit frames, among other things.

Lusekofte Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Is there a law against recording merlin sound? I always wondered, because merlin sound must be the most discussed theme in every sim forum. getting access should not be a problem. I get problems with various german engines but not Merlins

How? The extreme loudness of aero engines is the thing which makes difficult to record and reproduce sounds of them. 1
kestrel79 Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I'm hoping every plane can get the spit treatment now in the sound dept. Sounds really good.

ZachariasX Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I like that sound of the Spit now. Although I find (at least in the backseat) the slipstream being markedly louder. But I must say, this is really good. And you should crank the Volume to 11 to get the noise level of the real Spit.

Mustang got some treatment too, together with Spit. Cockpit mid-to-high power sounds only for the time being, but that's where sim-pilot spends most of his/her time anyway. I like them more than Spit's actually. 3 hours ago, 8ELT_Grzesiek said: They must have been smart and hired mods who did a great job in some of the mods until IL2 1946 Nah, they've got their own sound-man, who has been quite active on English side of the forums lately. I get problems with various german engines but not Merlins Operational costs of even the most popular warbirds are in low 4-digit pounds per hour range, TBOs are short, overhauls are expensive. I suppose owners are not eager to put their precious engines through paces "just" for some video game developer (well, OK, Warthunder guys arranged many recording sessions for their product, but they sh..t with money, so they could do afford it easily). Partnership wih TFC helps I suppose, but still doesn't make things cheaper. Also, as the RD-sound-man mentioned on their forum, he's located 3000 km from Duxford. That certainly doesn't help, especially when you have to haul some proper equipment to get really good quality recordings. So I guess it's not a law problem, but more of an logistics and financial chores issue.
ZachariasX Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 41 minutes ago, Art-J said: So I guess it's not a law problem, but more of an logistics and financial chores issue. It is absolutely no problem recording engine sounds. Other publishes do that, A2A simulations for instance. Loud or not, you can record that with proper equipment. All you have to do is rent a particular aircraft featuring such an engine. You can (depending on what specific "noise" you are recording) record most on the ground or even in a hangar when you want no other noises present. It's just a cost issue. The airctaft are roughly £5000 per hour, depening on your wishes.
Jade_Monkey Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 The raw audio clips for our current sounds in IL2 are not bad, but they sound radically different once they go through fmod. Its just my opinion, without being a sound engineer, that they would sound much better closer to the source and with less processing.
HagarTheHorrible Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) I haven't played DCS for a couple of years, since the Normandy map came out, because my GPU just couldn't hack it any longer. I've just upgraded my GPU and thought I'd fire it up and see what it looked like ( always loved the Mig 15), but the update process is really, really painful. First off, the day and a half to update the main game, only to find I then have to re-install all my extras, which looks like it could take another whole night of leaving my PC on. Good grief, I don't know why I bother sometimes. BoX updates, on the other hand, are utterly wonderful, a joy even ! Edited November 26, 2019 by HagarTheHorrible 2
RhumbaAzul Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) I use it through steam and have absolutely no problems with updates/downloads, they're all very fast. 6mb/s, Dundee, Scotland. Edited November 26, 2019 by RhumbaAzul
Jaws2002 Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 (edited) I just downloaded and reinstalled everything last week. It took a few hours, but it went without any problems. You have to understand the fact that DCS is HUGE. My DCS folder is over 130GB. My il-2 folder is only around 35GB. DCS is just another kind of beast. It's your connection that's making you weep. The latest BoX update only took about 30 - 40 minutes. The problem is the pitiful torrent speeds, that DCS uses for it’s distribution, while IL 2 might download at 6 -800 Kbs DCS tops out at about 50 and even those heady speeds are fleeting.
szelljr Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 ...this game(DCS) menu is a nightmare. I find where can i change a skin in 2 days, lol....I made a skin...cant make to work...i am to old for this s....t ..

My updates for BOX always are really fast due to my very good connection. But when I update DCS, well then it's another story. One advise: As soon as the update starts to build up the torrent channels, just click on CANCEL, which brings up the question to continue through htttp download. Do this and you will see it's faster, although still painful. I never use the torrent channels to update this DCS monster. 1
DD_Fenrir Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 (edited) As with anything szelljr, you look in the right places, you find the right answers and you get used to the way things are done within that environment. DCS is no exception. DCS is a great sim, as is GBS. They each have their foibles, but they also have moments that will leave you jaw-on-the-floor with excitement/appreciation. CanadaOne Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 My DCS is on Steam, and while it committed two major crimes against humanity in the past, it's been pretty good since then. That said, BOX installs and updates, through this site, have always been butter smooth. I have zero complaints.

Danziger Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Yes. By the time DCS gets updated, it is long past how much time I actually had to play it.
Lusekofte Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I dl dcs at same speed or faster than GB however, I am always afraid those updates ruin something I find precious, because they tend to make new problems
